    After floor laying and carpet fitting for 25yrs I can say with first hand knowledge that ....if you run a tacking strip across a door or any opening the foot traffic will cause the pins to break down the backing and premature wear will result .. tack strips are designed to be used only around the perimeter (as this happens also when use on stair risers where they get kicked) again the wall etc ..where there is no foot traffic ... best practise is to turn and tack or use a z profile bar !!!

    Such beautiful workmanship on the tiles around those door jambs and casings! When in doubt, fill it with grout.

      Do your best, and caulk the rest 👍

    • @TheLarryBrown
      @TheLarryBrown ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about the grout, and it's never a caulk walk. Best zest in a tile fest is a good nibble that solves all quibble, cut with care a little less than you dare, than nibble last bits 'til it fits. If all is square your reward will be fair, but never forget the mortar must not be too wet. Jambs are like hams, they come in porkey and slim, casings are just facings, you need to tile under all trim.

    Getting ready to install a carpet in a small landing area. Your videos are VERY helpful!!!! One question about carpet to tile and the distance of the tack strip to the tile for the best tuck. I'm guessing 3/16" gap?

    • @FloorsbySouthernboys
      @FloorsbySouthernboys  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      sausage man I just started using the latex seam sealer maybe 3 or 4 years ago, it's just a preventative step to ensure that the carpet never raval's or comes loose or anything not sure if you're familiar with latex sealer but it will dry stretchy if you put a nice bead in there it's going to work like a rubber band when it dries constantly pulling that carpet down into the crack so it just ensures me that I'm never going to have an issue out of that doorway

    I was told to never have tack -strips across doorway is a no no because the carpet will eventually wear down and exposed the tacks then you will have issues with someone poking their feet , is that correct ?

      B F If you are transitioning down to something lower that is fine but if you’re working to something such as the tile or something that has some height to it you need tack strip

    Rented a house that had carpet installed like this, I loved getting stabbed in the foot by the tack strip everytime I walked into the room. Shouldn't you use a z bar?

      tj newell unfortunately z-bar is put down with tack strip to and there's not really anything else you can do in the doorway working to tile without using a tack strip, only thing you might do is tap the tacks down with a hammer, but then you run the risk of putting dimples in your carpet because the tack strip nails will pull the backing of the carpet down when you tap them down, and if it's a pretty smooth looking carpet you will see dimples where the nails get pulled down

      dont understand the carpet is 3/4 in thick you sure as hell aint going to have tsack strip coming through that unless your carpet is paper thin should be no problem
