Fun fact: HxH is actually about Killuas transformation from a cold-blooded killer to a loving and caring friend and person. Gon is just a plot device to help Killua achieve this

I'd say Gon is still the protagonist, most of the plot is in relation to his actions or reactions, but Killua goes through much more character development. Gon has a pretty flat character arc throughout the show until the CA arc, but Killua is constantly evolving so while it's Gon's story, Killua is definitely the emotional core of the show.
Also fun fact: there's Evidence that gon was unhinged from very early on and the character breakdown we see is just that coming to the surface more and more
