    Most historians believe that Jesus did exist. You don't have to believe in God nor on Christianity, but by now we are almost 100% sure that Jesus was a real person here on earth.

      @R Hamlet Exactly. I just pointed out in another comment that the video poster employs Ancient Aliens tactics (mixing statements by serious scholars about mundane claims and what people just believed back then with statements made but nut jobs, including the video poster him/herself, about alleged "facts" revolving around the supposed resurrection for which there are possible alternative explanations that are far more likely, given what we know about human nature). This gives the video as a whole the aura of critical respectability, which works very well on people with a bias view on the topic.

    • @vvieites001
      @vvieites001 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @R Hamlet I agree. Every point he made has been said to death by Catholic/Christian apologists. My ex who was Catholic and got very into Catholic apology (a major reason we didn’t work out) parroted every single one of these points. It means nothing to say historians agree Jesus existed if said historians are (probably)Christian or raised in a predominantly Christian society. There really isn’t much “evidence” outside the Bible and Christianity that Jesus was real. A couple of guys around that time saying Jesus was a guy they’d heard of doesn’t negate this fact. This video basically does nothing but give credence to the idea that a man’s spirit rose from the dead and that magic does indeed exist 🙄 also, the idea that these books could have been written with near perfect accuracy 25-65 years after the alleged events took place just because people were really into story telling at the time is preposterous. Story tellers are known to embellish. It’s what they do. And you’re right, there’s a very big difference between other historical figures and Jesus in that people wouldn’t be so motivated to fabricate stories of Alexander the Great as they would be motivated to make up stories about Jesus. There are biases at play when it comes to the existence of a supposed God that don’t exist when you’re talking about some kings or warriors of the past. Come on now, infographics, do better.

    • @randomdudeoti

      @@vvieites001 so your argument is that one side is completely biased while downplaying the existing evidence. Sure the eyewitnesses outside the Bible don’t 100% prove it, but it still is valid. Saying an argument is invalid due to them being biased is just absurd. It damages the credibility, sure, but doesn’t debunk it. Also, atheists have biases as well, especially among those who think they are superior to Christian’s.

      At the end of the day, believers and non-believers cannot have a meaningful debate about the historicity of the synoptic gospels because they operate off completely different presuppositions and epistemology. Also, the 'quest for the historical Jesus' was already attempted in the 19th-20th centuries, particularly by liberal German theologians. It's a rather pointless exercise, as you merely find the answer that you want to find based on your own presuppositions. That's why the Christian faith is - faith. And faith is not just a blind sentiment. It's a God given life-transforming and eye-opening gift, the ultimate joy, that changes your life through and through.

    • @randomdudeoti
      @randomdudeoti ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @R Hamlet definition of faith according to Oxford: complete trust or confidence in someone or something. So faith can use evidence. You’re just inserting your own definition and saying if it doesn’t apply to yours then it is irrelevant.

See I’m an atheist and see a lot of people using the empty tomb as an argument like in this video. However I have not been able to find any independent evidence of a tomb whatsoever. It’s not found anywhere else in the NT other than the gospels and it’s not corroborated by secular/theologically independent sources from the time. Additionally the notion of a proper burial for a crucifixion victim goes against what we know was standard Roman practice.
      With this all said would you happen to know any evidence of a tomb in the first place let alone an empty one?

      I would like evidence because, as I said in the original post, the whole idea of a tomb burial is contradicted by the standard procedure for cruxifixction victims. This means that this would be an irregular event and thus would need more evidence to be rationally accepted. This would be a special case and I’m asking what reason we have to accept this as historical?
      And what “other evidence?” Because it’s a claim only found in the gospels. And, since the gospels/the gospel narratives are not independent, this is a single source. We don’t have any independent corroboration even within the bible. This is something I explicitly said in my initial comment.
      I’m sorry but it seems that you didn’t actually read my initial comment very carefully. This can be seen in your insistence on the “other evidence” when I explicitly pointed out a lack of any independent corroboration.

Which makes sence remembering he came as a Jew in the middle east desert!! When he held out his arms the light got brighter and i felt so much love and peace and raw power that i cant even find the right words to describe them. Jesus is God in the flesh. God is a trinity. All power the father has Jesus also has. He has existed with the father since before the earths creation. The very last thing i remember was looking down to see a dark pit. Like a black hole it was so dark. I started to fall down into it, the second i felt myself starting to fall i looked back up to see Jesus one last time. All i could see was his hand reaching down waiting for me to grab it. The second i grabbed his hand i woke up back in my room in the spot i just overdosed in except that i was sober when i came back. It is Not possible to hallucinate your way Out of an overdose. Jesus saved me from the Pit and now i am a fisher of men.

    For me I think the reason Christianity became the worlds biggest religion is because of what happened on the Cross at Calvary. To remind people when Jesus was pieced in the side with a spear the roman centurion Longinius had his face covered in water and blood, this was an extremely strange phenomenon for obvious reasons. This shook him to his core so much that he became technically the worlds first Christian and was literally Baptized in the blood and water of Jesus, another Prophecy he foretold. The world also had a terrible violent earthquake and the sky went dark during the daytime for nearly 3 hours. This entire sequence of events is the reason why the religion exploded like it did. Imagine seeing that happen in person. it was probably the only thing the people who lived during that time would about.

It goes to show that whether you believe in Jesus or not, He was and is victorious not by means of sheer force or kingly glory, but rather by making Himself a living sacrifice and servant to others; something that He commands believers to do also. Though the world hated Him, He remained ever kind and loved unconditionally. It is such a beautiful message.

      Christianity began as sun worship, the stories about Jesus are symbolic.
      He is just a personification of the sun, made into a god figure later on.
      The sun "dies" for 3 days on December 22nd, the winter solstice, when it stops its movement south, to be born again or resurrected on December 25th, when it resumes its movement north.
      In some areas, the calendar originally began in the constellation of Virgo, and the sun would therefore be "born of a Virgin"
      The sun rising in the morning is "the saviour of mankind"
      The sun is "The light of the World"
      The sun "walks on water" is just the reflection of the sun on water/the sea.
      "He cometh on clouds, and every eye shall see him", is just sun rays.
      Jesus' "crown of thorns" is just the sun's glare, also know as a halo.
      The sun's "followers", "helpers" or "disciples" are the 12 months and the 12 signs of the zodiac or constellations, through which the sun must pass.
      The sun at 12 noon is in the house or temple of the "Most High": thus.."he" begins "his Father's work" at "age" 12.
      The sun enters into each sign of the zodiac at 30 degrees, hense, the "Sun of God" begins his ministry at "age" 30.
      The sun is hung on a cross or "crucified", which represents its passing through the equinoxes.
      The vernal equinox being Easter, at which time it is then resurrected.
      The reason why saviour myths are so similar with a godman who is crucified and resurrected, who does miracles and has 12 disciples, is that these stories were based on the movements of the sun through the heavens, an astrotheological development that can be found throughout the planet, because the sun and the 12 zodiac signs can be observed around the globe.
      In other words, Jesus Christ and all the others upon whom this character is predicated are personifications of the sun, and the Gospel fable is merely a rehash of a mythological formula revolving around the movements of the sun throug the heavens.
      Christianity is ancient astrology, it's just fables about the sun.

      Jesus Christ claims to be God and here's the proof directly from scripture. Revelation 1:8, Revelation 22:13, John 10:30, John 8:24, John 5:18, John 5:30, John 8:58, John 1:1, John 17:5, John 1:14, John 14:9, John 2:19, Matthew 4:7, 1 Timothy 3:16, Collossians 2:9 and Collossians 1:16. If the Gospels are not trustworthy, then the quran is false because the quran teaches that the gospels are the inspired, perfectly-preserved, authoritative words of God. But if the Gospels are trustworthy, then the quran is STILL false because it teaches contradictory, mutually exclusive facts about key issues. Here's some verses that prove the quran confirms the Torah and the Gospels are inspired by allah. quran surah and ayats 2:41, 2:89, 2:91, 2:101, 2:121, 3:3-4, 3:50, 4:47, 5:46, 5:68, 6:114, 6:33-34, 7:157, 15:9 and 18:27.

That was until He visited me and showed me the difference between logic and faith. He explained to me that the two are not reconcilable in the human mind so to try to prove or disprove one with the other is not possible and an attempt to do so will inevitably lead you to a false conclusion... The difference, He explained, is that faith, by its definition, must come without evidence. Discounting God and His love because He cannot be empirically proven with his own law is like a child believing they don't have a parent because they're in a different room.

      @@DemonCore618 unrelated topic. But. For the most part, the Classical-era Greeks "believed" in their gods in a similar way to how a modern American might believe in the Constitution. They were foundational for both national identity and civic institutions, and an important ideological hook to hang all sorts of ideas on, but didn't usually play a very big role in everyday life. Everyday religious practice tended to revolve around local cults which were sometimes very different from the big Olympian deities we normally think of.
      The idea that the gods were metaphors for "phenomena occurring within nature" is basically the invention of the 19th century scholar Max Müller: his view was that a statement like "Zeus makes it rain" was, originally, strictly linguistically equivalent to "it is raining". This was a very influential view, though the linguistic side of it disappeared in later theorists like Andrew Lang and George Frazer, who emphasised the grounding of myths in ritual and the irrational -- though they all shared the view that myths were essentially a fantasised reinterpretation of primal sentiments that were still shared by modern "civilised" people.
      This is just one of several "big schools" of thought on the nature of myths: others include the psychoanalytic interpretations of Freud and Jung, the structuralist interpretations of Dumézil and Lévi-Strauss, and the "monomyth" of Joseph Campbell. None of these monolithic theories has really stuck in modern approaches to myth, because it has become more widely recognised that myths are just too complex to be explained by any one theory. Any one of these theories might apply in some cases, but fail completely in hundreds of others.
      And, on the contrary, Christianity has more social and political elements as well as people arguing for its historical validity. But, I think the biggest difference is probably time frame removed from relevancy. But also - I have no idea. This is all speculation. That’s a good question.

      @@DuelKing. He saved me from depression anxiety, and above anything else was shame. I can’t even describe to you the difference I felt in my being when I let Jesus into my life. To answer your question, even though it wasn’t directed towards me, I did literally NOTHING to have Him take those things away. Literally all I did was open my heart truly to Him. Words can’t even describe it. The term “born again” became so real to me. I literally began experiencing the world like I never have before. The sky looked different. People seemed different. I had this weird desire to become friends with everyone I met (ironic because I really did not like people before and was very socially awkward before). And I could not stop smiling. I literally felt high on life. As I’m writing this I just got back from Bible study with a couple friends. Never in my life did I expect to be doing that. I am just so grateful now He came into my life and showed me a new way of living.

      Also, the difference between christianity and other religions, is that other religions demand a person to do good things, and if they did good enough, they go to heaven. While Christians know they will never enter heaven on their own actions, no matter how good we do. We always commit sins. We depend purely on the mercy and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Believe in him and you are saved.

It means "He came from YHWH", His Word which became flesh. Not a seperate person, but He as One. So He is called the Son, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Counselor and El Shaddai.
      As Yeshua or Jesus stated even in the old testament, HE IS ONE.

      Yup, not three, but One.
      But of course, you as a gentile Christian will ask why one? Not three?
      First Because Yeshua said He is One. Also let me give an example. How many spirits that Jesus or Yeshua have? 7 right? He has 7 Spirits, and it is written from the entire bible even up to revelations. But He dont call it as SPIRITS but in singular, The Holy Spirit. And the Holy Spirit is not a seperate being or person, He is YHWH Himself.

    I started drinking when I was 16. I would drink at parties, but I also started drinking alone because I was unhappy, and I was in a lot of emotional pain all the time. My mom was very aggressive when I was younger, and my brother hated her and so did I. He started hanging out with shady people, he started failing all his classes, he was never home, and my parents fought all the time. I also ran away several times. I was always trying to figure out a reason as to why I was here or what the purpose of life was. So, I started looking at different philosophies, religions, and beliefs. When I was 18 after I was hungover, I got on my knees and I prayed for the first time. I asked if God was real that he would show me he was real because I couldn’t take it anymore. I was crying when I prayed for this. At that moment I felt a presence come over me like a wind. It was barely noticeable, but it was unlike anything in my life I had experienced up until that point. I was surprised when I felt it and I remember saying “what was that?” after that experience I pretty much forgot what happened and kept partying, until my senior year when I got arrested. After my arrest, my parents lost all their trust in me and I was expelled from high school. I was told never to come back. At that time, I felt afraid and hopeless. That’s when I started looking for God, and I prayed that he would reveal himself in my life and that he would give me signs. My prayers began getting answered so consistently that I couldn’t deny that God was doing something. It was mysterious and compelling. I ended up in Church and started reading the bible hours a day. I stopped hanging out with all my other friends because they were continually getting arrested. I was able to forgive my family and myself and to ask to be forgiven. I noticed how at Church people were judgmental and how they formed cliques but were afraid to be around anyone else different from them. It increased my faith because I realized Jesus was not like that and ever since I was young, I saw people as people regardless of who they were. After a while, it’s like I could see God's presence was in my life and then it felt like he wasn’t, and then he was, and then he wasn’t. One day I woke up and felt more depressed than I ever have in my entire life. I felt like I was dying on the inside. That night I prayed, and I said, God, I don’t see my life five years from now I'm going to die Jesus save me Lord, please save me. I was weeping when I said it and when I asked him to save me, I felt a presence inside of me like a heartbeat, and I felt it once like a pulse, and I said Lord please save me and I felt it again even stronger. It was like radiance. When I woke up the next morning, I had transformed everything felt brand new like I was a kid again. All my fears and all my racing thoughts everything was gone. I looked at my hands, and I said this can’t be real, it's impossible. When I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a different person. I started praying, and the holy spirit became entirely real to me; it was washing over me and inside of me. It was total love and peace, and I heard a voice but not an audible one, it was an inner voice. It said I am with you; I love you, I will never leave you, it’s done it’s finished. That was May 3rd, 2009, and ever since then I’ve followed God, I have seen many things change and many things I know wouldn’t have changed without faith and belief. I know what it’s like to be lost to feel you have no hope. Don’t ever think you’re stuck, or life can’t change because it can. My mom is a Christian now, Its night and day. Some of the things that went away during that period were severe anxiety and my addiction to alcohol. I’ve seen and experienced so many things that are miraculous and seen how God has worked in my life. When we ask God to forgive us for what we’ve done and turn away from our sins and wrongdoings and we believe in Christ's sacrifice everything changes. His word says if we confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in our hearts that he died and rose again we will have eternal life but not just life after death but abundant life in the present. Our sins are erased not only past, present, and future but our burdens and fears are lifted also. Our thoughts, our minds, our hearts, our souls are transformed and united with God and we know his spirit lives in us. If you seek, pray, and knock you will know JESUS IS KING!!! HE LIVES!

      However - there was not a single document mentioning Jesus while he was still alive. No letters of followers talking about loaves and fishes. This is unusual if we want to believe that the stories, and accounts of Jesus life written in the New Testament happened. Much less famous and less notable figures had documented evidence or at least mentions of him being alive exist across the lifespan of when Jesus was said to be alive.

    "What's more important to me: knowing the truth, or being comfortable?"
    I've observed that most people just want to be comfortable. And most people I've seen who say they want the trurh, only want it to the point that borders on discomfort. If the truth gets too uncomfortable, most will stop pursuing it or abandon it altogether. Just my observations.
    In the end, ALL OF US will get the truth (like it or not; understand it or not). Enjoy your personal beliefs while you can. The truth just is.

    The other problem people fail to realize is that to be and become a Christian in those early decades would not have been an easy worldly feat to accomplish. To have been a Christian would have meant to fundamentally and permanently alter your view of the world forever, while simultaneously facing the very real and dangerous prospect of state punishment. Again like stated in the video, men don’t die for false beliefs. Men can die believing false things, but when you compound all the other aspects of Christianity at the time, you can more clearly begin to understand why this would have been very difficult to achieve without having the full conviction that what you saw and experienced was real and what your brethren saw and experienced was also real.

      Men don’t die for false beliefs? I think every other religion would beg to disagree. The Sikhs are a religion built from conflict. The Muslims have been fighting for centuries, from the crusades to Isis. Mormons were persecuted and murdered fairly recently.

      The evidence here is very poor & only apologists praise it because it's primarily their arguments presented with no real criticism. Even when the occasional counter arguments are given, it's always to transition into something like "but the story must be real because angels & sudden blindness aren't mythical embellishments!"
      In fact, I encourage actually looking at the sources. One apologist book, one debate, & a few Wiki articles. It's very obvious to me that the book forms the video's backbone, & it's not balanced with a book criticizing the resurrection narrative, let alone any historical textbooks.

    • @ajkooper
      @ajkooper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think in the end it should be not that important to fact check a religion. In this case the bible. The core message is what should be what matters. I don't think it's important wether or not a guy named jesus really walked on water or a guy named moses really split water with a strike of his staff. Same with other religions. The stories of siddhartha for example. What matters is what guidelines it can provide us to move forward. I think the bible, like other holy books, are full of messages and guidelines written in their time to provide structure to a society. As does the koran, the torah, the tripitaka and the sutras etc etc...
      To me personally i think every religion has meaningful lessons and wisdom we can use to better ourselves and the world as well as time and/or place bound aspects that we should take with a grain of salt today. Those messages are explained in a story to give perception in context. Maybe they really happened as described. Maybe they are told in a way to portrait the message best. Maybe in today's age we need to make adjustments to the story for the sake of the message it contains. With this i don't mean to say you should abandon your god or change loyalty. But let's collectively be more open minded about the rules.

    • @evorock
      @evorock 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Actually that is not true at all, on two points
      1) you claim that atheists will not be swayed by evidence. If there was ACTUAL. VERIFALBE EVIDENCE that jesus ever existed (other than the usual suspects, including Josephus whose work has been thoroughly debunked as a fraud) Then, I as an atheist absolutely WOULD admit that there is at least one claim that can be proven. The problem then lies with providing evidence for the fact that jesus was the "son of god" (sic). Because outside of the bible there is nothing to back these stories up that is reliable.
      2) If the evidence can be verified and proven without a shadow of a doubt and without using the various fallacies that christians use, such as the circular reasoning of "the bible is true, because it says it's true"
      evidence is everything. If you can't show it, you don't know it
