    Received my custom fitted JPX921 tour irons this week....I like smaller clubheads and the JPX Tour irons (pw-5) are so easy to hit, consistent , tight dispersion , workable , great turf interaction and a bit more forgiving on (slight) toe misses than my MP18 blades. Mizuno make great irons 👍🏽

    • @MattWilliamsGolf

      That’s awesome. What shaft did you go with? Also, did you test the Forged, or only the Tour?

    • @Raymond-sj7cn

      @@MattWilliamsGolf Hi , love my MP18 MB irons but they have for the first time graphite shafts(project X LZ tour ) for my joints but I came to the conclusion that I like steel shafts better so searched for new clubs with steel shafts but will keep my MP18 blades for times when my joints give problems. I tested several heads (mizuno , Taylormade and titleist ) with several shafts. Also tested the JPX forged. Distance was longer but they also have stronger loft so that was to be expected. I Like smalle profile clubheads and liked the feel, dispersion and workability of the Tour better. In the end it was between MP20 , JP 921 or the taylormade P7MC. Chose the JPX921 because of the dispersion and flight on trackman and on course (was allowed to take the 7 demo iron with the selected shaft with me for several rounds). A little bit firmer than the buttery soft MP20 blades but with a little more forgiveness and still a very soft feel and great feedback. Already liked the Nippon modus tour 105 shaft and on the DNA optimizer this shaft was also in the top 3 recommended shafts. Could have taken the forged in the longer irons but already have a Titleist U500 4 iron and than a hybrid 19 degrees ping410 and a MP20 HMB 2 iron.

    • @MattWilliamsGolf
      @MattWilliamsGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Raymond-sj7cn Excellent feedback. Yeah, as you may have seen, my dispersion with the JPX921 Forged was incredible. Landed it on the same line to the exact same yardage 3 times in a row (168 yard carry, 175 total w/ 7 iron). For me the P770 produces a better feel and result than the P7MC’s did. But I could see if you’re accustomed to more of a blade feel and look behind the ball, why the P7MC would feel like a better choice for you.

    Interested to see what you go with. I was torn between 921 forged and P770. I swing 7i on average at 91 mph 167-170 carry and tested every shaft in different lengths, I’m typically + 1”. Ended up going P770 with Project X LZ 5.5 (115 gram) shaft. Waiting patiently for them to come in. You should see if you can test more shafts to make sure you find the right combo.

    • @MattWilliamsGolf
      @MattWilliamsGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. Right now I would give the slight edge to the TaylorMade P770. That said, these Mizuno JPX 921 Forged are in my top 3, and could still end up being the ones I go with. And yes, after talking with my fitter and a couple golf tech junkies (including another blogger), it seems that a different shaft could be what give Mizuno the edge. Particularly in the long irons. The Nippon shaft (all of them really) are not as a good a fit for me. I like something with higher launch trajectory and spin. So it could be as simple as a different shaft selection for these Mizuno. Not sure if you saw it, but I did also do a review of the P770’s. I ordered a set of 921 forged G-7 and the 921 hot metal pros in 6-4. I had the same issue with the 5 iron for the forged and the HMP is a great substitute for the forged long irons with no added price, more forgiveness, and higher ball speeds for my long irons.

    Matt. How do the JPX 921 Forged and the PXG 0311p gen 2 irons compare to each other from your experiences? The idea of adding a Hot Metal Pro 5 & 6 iron to the Forged 7 - PW sounds intriguing.

    • @MattWilliamsGolf
      @MattWilliamsGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, for me, the PXG 0311 Gen 2 would be the winner over the Mizuno JPX921 Forged. Mizuno feels better, but I enjoy basically everything else on the PXG over the Mizuno. My question would be, can you even still get the Gen2? PXG is running pretty close to low on those (I think). The other thing worth considering if you are comparing those irons, the Mizuno comes stock with a flatter lie angle and a slightly longer shaft. If you go with Mizuno, I would absolutely suggest you get fitted so that you could consider lie angle and shaft length options. Now, if you’re dead set on the Mizuno’s (without knowing anything about your game), then yes, I love the idea of a combo set. Just make sure your distance gapping is appropriate. Hope that helps!

    I game the JPX921 Forged, GW through 4 iron and love them ALL. Yes, the 4 and 5 irons are more difficult to hit flush than the shorter irons, but I don't find there is a significant drop in perfomance from 6 to 4/5-irons. However, I've found that espesially the lower irons need some clubspeed to perform. My 7-iron averages 169 meters with the Project X LZ 6.0 / 120g.

I think the JPX GW is better then the SM6 on full shots, and the SM6 is better on half shots. I have 54˚ and 58˚ wedges so that is not a big deal. Hi Matt, our swings are very similar in terms of release and speed and when I was fitted for these about 6 weeks ago, I had the most joy with the kbs tour 90 shafts in stiff. You really should try this shaft, comes in just over 100 grams in stiff. It's a bit softer and will help you get the 5 iron up in the air 👍

    You werent mentioning ball speed on the 5 iron??? Ball speed is king ... 7 to 5 is 1 inch longer and a couple degrees lower launch so efficiency should go up ... should see 10 mph ball speed increase from 7 to 5. Only mizuno irons here tzoid pro to mp60 to jpx 919 tour and just combo with 921 forged 4-5-6 - had to weaken 6 iron loft to get gapping right and scaled up carry perfect 220/207/195. DG TI s400

      @MattWilliamsGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, my bad. And now in looking back at my videos, I don’t recall what ball speed was on the 5-iron. I can tell you this, if I stick with these Mizuno’s, I’m going to need to adjust lie angle slightly, as well as the shafts. Totally dialed in fitting wise, I’m slightly less carry distance than you it appears. I’m more like 186, 198, 212. But it all comes down to being totally dialed in with my adjustments to these irons. I love your combo set. Sounds awesome!
