My god, I used to watch this as a teenager in the late 80s in the UK. I so longed back then to travel around Australia, but I'm 50 now and never ended up there. I wanted to see Crowded House in concert over there, too. Aww, the dreams we have as children.
this series means so much to us old bed ridden folk in the UK, images of freedom adventure, and beautiful places and people that we'll not get the chance to see, but many thanks from London
I don't think anyone has done a better job , 'explaining' remote northern Australia as Les did in this series. His respect and love for the indigenous Australians of Arnhem Land shines through, and is so obvious yet so understated...at that time, I felt that Les Hiddens did much to increase the understanding of city folk like me for Aboriginal people and their land. I get the same feeling watching this series now as I did over 30 years ago.
I met Major Hidden many years 1986 on a course in WA in the Army. It wasn't a conventional Army course. Yes, Les wore his slouch hat just like that and maybe that was his hat from that time. His knowledge is unbelievable and he is an absolute gentleman. Thank you Les
Thakn You for uploading this series in such superb quality. Youre awesome. I'm 40 and back in my childhood i used to watch this religiously. Those were times when Discovery Channel was releasing some high quality content.
No matter how many times the word Legend is used when you’re talking about Les Hiddins, it’s just not enough! Good on you Les and happy birthday for your 76th year, still going strong!
Great that you are making this available on TH-cam - means more people can have the pleasure of watching Les nom his way through some tasty and some not so tasty bushtucker.

It's an Australia that not many aussies ever experience, although I have been in some really rugged bush, this feels like another level. Thanks for making these available ABC..
Watching Les wandering around the bush reminds me off when I was a kid. We lived in Nhulunbuy between 1975 and 1981 and when we went camping ...it was just like this. Am 48 now and this takes me back.
Ahh such memories. I backpacked to Australia in January 1990 and travelled around on a Greyhound that stopped off in the Northern Territory at Uluru (Ayres Rock). Bushtucker Man videos were playing on a loop in the visitor centre. I sat there and watched loads of them that day. A real nostalgia trip.
The ducks nuts of Australian television. Me and my mates grew up wanting and trying to be Les Hiddens or Malcolm Douglas. That was when we weren’t trying to be Alan Border or David Boon. If you weren’t into it then you weren’t living. It helped living in the North West of Australia because we could test our new learnt skills for real. Such a great show and I later found out that both Les and Malcolm were very popular in Germany. Who would of thought. 👍🇦🇺💪
Les Hiddins is a legend. I watched his shows on repeat so many times in the 90's as a kid it's a wonder the VHS tapes didn't wear out. For me at least, it's the most iconic Australian educational series ever made. Can't get more Australian than a bloke in an Akubra poking around the bush!
I met Les in Townsville around the time he was filming The Bush Tucker man. He impressed me with clearly being the same person you saw on the show. Looking forward to revisiting this series!
Loved thos show as kid. I joined the army, did it myself. Later worked as a fishing guide, and have lived in the top end 23 years now. Love it. Billy goat plums are delicious btw.
Me mate was infantry at Lavarack & used to tell me about this bloke who'd go bush & eat off the land. He wrote survival manuals for the Army.. next thing, he's on the telly!! Legend Les! Edit: & his hat!
OH please bring him back ! I still put one of his DVD's on when i'm out in the shed playing around - i don't have to look at the screen to see what Les is talking about as he describes it so well i can see it in my minds eye ! I grew up watching the Leyland brothers , Malcom Douglas and Harry butler but then along came the Bush Tucker Man and it blew them all away ! There is a younger generation that have not seen the series so posting them on TH-cam is fantastic and i do hope they find their way to these videos !
I remember watching this series back in the day ( I think it was on Channel 4 here in the UK ). Even the theme tune brings back fond memories. I'm going to be watching it all over again. Great stuff.
You cannot imagine in your worst nightmares how many times I have watched all of Bush Tucker Man's videos. He really did have the best job in his army. He and I are almost the same age and years ago I had enough points to emigrate but relatives and ............ I wish I had. Good on yer mate.
I absolutely adore this series and watch them all from start to finish every so often. The second series on the explorers was outstanding too. Long live Les Hiddins
We had a three hour children’s programming on Sunday morning in the late eighties up into the early nineties here in the Netherlands just for children with all kind of series and programs and this one “Bush tucker man” was one of my favorites.
Even today this is the best production ever made about bushcraft and survival. I'm Dutch so we don't have these animals, plants and fruits. But still it changed me from being just a survival instructor as in getting out of the bush to also a bushcraft teacher as in enjoying your time in the bush. Of course the Dutch and Australia have a history.
