Yes indeed, the elderly gentleman is truly a Real Gentleman! Reminds me of several old Aboriginal acquaintences from my long age youth. Sadly many of the current generation are not of the same calibre. But that applies to all colours and creeds these days.
There is so much that can be learnt from the first peoples of this country, they were/are true masters of their environment. Sad to think that their knowledge might be lost.

Loved to watch his programmes together with my dad who was a ww2 veteran...he loved to see al those survival "info" because he was a POW at the Birma railway for 3,5 years ...and survived

I remember finding aboriginal carvings around the place. i have since gone out and identified 11 native bush tucker plants. ive tried many of them when i was absolutely sure what they were. Some were quite good, some not so much, but i still find it fascinating.
Les you are amazingly talented mate I learn so much from you. Watching this video reminded me of a trip we had up to Coral bay back in the 1980’s and a tribe came from bush and the kids had never seen the ocean . When they saw us in the water they all charged in yelling were going to wet you Mr so I dived in 😂 and then the fun started . They were asking me to throw them into the water . I obliged and we all had a bloody good time . I still remember that day like it happened yesterday .
The work Les has done will be looked at for many years to come, especially by the black fellas who are losing their knowledge as these old fellas like Donny pass. It never ceases to amaze me how the central desert region aboriginals survived out there for 1000's of years. I've been out in those regions and i couldn't imagine what it would be like to be there on foot living offthe land there, it's an amazing feat of survival
Tommy George, the community leader, was so genuinely polite and charming, especially when sharing the palm heart at the end of the episode. So amazing that our hero was able to work with these sorts of people and seek the wisdom gained by thousands of years of life in areas that appear so inhospitable to us. Not shocked the American airmen perished - in fact, I’m surprised any of them made it. It’s a shame they weren’t provided with the right things to survive and effect rescue.
The Great Australian show back before this country had lost its way here we are in 2024 people are still destroying the planet and their local environment a sad indictment on the intelligence of Australians
The religious beliefs of many Aboriginal People cause them great superstitious trepidation in dealing with dead people. From going near where someone has died to speaking of their dead relatives. Stupid I know, but no more so than the dumb beliefs of other Mumbo Jumbo Creeds - like Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or you name it!
Does anyone know if the surviving US Airmen who went in a Westerly direction with the others and survived wrote about his experience trying to survive? Does anyone know his name? It would be fascinating to hear his story.
Related to other toads that are miraculously not as poisonous. Why did they choose the most poisonous toad to do the job others could have done more effectively?
Because the bushtucker man started alot bush food research they improvise in the army handy if stranded in a war zone some plants are simular overseas anyway wont find many city folk going outback

An Australian citizen can still become a Knight/Dame via a substantive award of an imperial honour from Great Britian for service to them (or the world in general) deemed worthy of it by the Brits. Same as the French handed out la Légion d'honneur to old Aussie Servicemen.
