Sack Smacker ive got a buddy with a integra gsr. He had stock exhaust and i had a full catback and when he hit vtec his car was louder than mine
Sack Smacker ive got a d16z6 df sports intake h22 tb and 2015 si muffler on my hatch and it sounds loud when vtec hits
The intake is what makes the VTEC so good. Without it the VTEC is null.

Just bought a 2001 Prelude. With only 98K. Ive always had a VTEC around.
To some people newest turbo engines are stronger more fuel afficient etc.
but reallity is that NOTHING can compare to vtec engines in term of $ / reliabillity / power output !
Vtecing You can VTEC swap everything. Lotus Elise, MR2, all the light and good stuff.
Amen brother, i love my 1.5T SI with my life but my b16 swapped hatch it my stress reliever, that When that Vtec kicks in theres no turbo sound that can bring that much adrenaline to my brain.
The turbos put out the power but not sure about reliability

I just picked up a 2020 civic sport
It may not be super fast
But it is one hell of a great driving experience
I have had a Golf, a Saab 9-5 Aero, a tuned Forester XT , and the Civic just puts a smile on my face

This is fax my father is a huge American muscle fan always hating on jdm but he stepped in a 5th gen prelude (his first time driving a Honda) and when he hit the vtec I saw him smile he said he didn’t know those cars could do that😂 needless to say he has a new respect for Honda’s
I had 2 Accords and used to be a honda-phile. Now I can't stand Hondas or Acuras at all. I would never buy another Honda or Acura product. That goes for Toyota and Lexus as well. Older ones, ok, but any Honda/Acura or Toyota/Lexus product after 2004 is a Pass from me.

Because you can get good mpg while staying in low revs (daily use), and have full power just where you need it. That make an elastic and versatile engine, and being small and light, they have so less inertia and friction losses confronted with a big engine that they revs faster anyway... But if you really want vtec to engage earlier you can still mod the ecu...
I get why people like low revving high torque engines, but a big engine means higher weight, and there are people that prefer ligher cars with smaller, more efficient engines, and you don't really need high torque when your car is lighter... Also, if you really can't live without high torque, there's boost!
Cars cammed as aggressively as a vtec on high cam are famous for having no power down low. Vtec actually optimizes low end torque without sacrificing high end hp. If you study a dynograph of a vtec powerband, you can see there are actually two separate powerbands. Vtec can be lowered to fill the gap between the two powerbands. There are also Vtec killer cams which are just the cam profile of the high cam. The only benefit of Vtec killer cams is less reciprocating mass on the valvetrain which yields higher rpm's and horsepower. These cams don't make much power below 6000 rpm.

ra40oz Unfortunately i don't own a car yet, i've just finished my studies and searching a job so that i can own one, but i'm very passionate about cars in general. I really like Hondas because i like lighter and efficient cars, end here in europe they make even more sense being compact, but i also respect and understand why people like torquey engines. I usually drive a turbo diesel Zafira in this period, not really a sporty one but i really appreciate the immediate torque! But between the cars i drove i also tried a Ferrari 458 once, litterally the other part of the spectrum since it's got a high revving, all power/low torque engine and man, i loved that beast! And it's also great to use, because of it's elastic engine, if you want you can just stay low on the revs and "cruise", then when you want power you just press on the throttle a little more and boom, you are over 7K rpm in an instant! But for now, i would like to get a civic or something similar, once i have the money! What do you drive?
