  • We have been trying to figure out the best vehicle to access the family cabin in the winter. We thought the tracked jeep would be it. We may have just found the limits to the jeep in the deep snow.

    Lockers would certainly help, but I had a thought... Could you install limit traps from the track main body (two per track as far forward and rearward on each track) that would limit the rotation of the whole track assembly around the axle? I would think that mounting the other end to a bracket attached at the axle perch would not limit articulation, but limit the binding/rotating issue.

      I agree the limit straps would help. Thanks for watching.

      That’s what I have.
      Tracks normally come with these

    the limit chains at the front tracks are needed at the back tracks ... your front tracks do not flip (rotate up) because of those limit chains ... duplicate at the rear

      Yeah we reached out to manufacturer and they sent us some but it was the end of the season. We will install them this year if we ever get some snow. Thanks for watching.

    That looks like alot of fun!
    Great video

    You need anti rotation bars they limit how much the tracks can rock back and forth

      @@kc120h yeah the track company made some and sent them to put on this winter. Hope it fixes the issue.

    Y'all were having WAY too much fun!Would stabilizer struts work? Two struts at opposing angles that would keep the tracks from rotating. Like shock absorbers arranged in a "V" shape mounted to opposite idlers and which would still allow for the tracks to still go over bumps. Think about it.

      Thanks for watching. That is a good idea.

      Robert, I too was wondering if you couldn't use perhaps heavy duty nylon straps to prevent the tracks from rotating. Drill a couple of holes in the inside track area, then secure the strap to a point on the frame (one facing forward, one facing rearward) and cross your fingers. Might be a cheap fix. Can't hurt to try it.

    i put a spartan (lunch box) locker in the front axel ... absolutely amazing ... very affordable

      We actually are switching to a wrangler rubicon this year with lockers. Should have more success.

    Looks like your ALWAYS going to have to have more than one option.
    How 'bout a lifted Jeep turning 40's that you could also use for offroading, and a pair of snowmobiles made for deep powder.
    You could cover all scenarios from light snow years to deep snow years, or if the road got muddy.

    • @JauntJunkies
      @JauntJunkies  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right there is never one do it all. We do have sxs for off-road and snowmobiles for deep. It is just difficult to haul everything on the snowmobiles and my parents are getting older and snowmobiles are more for younger people. Thanks for watching.

      40’s will not come even close to a Jeep on tracks fyi.

    you need an anti rotation bar on them... ive had tracks on my honda 4wheeler for ten years no problem.... the rear ones have a bar off the axel houseing to the track to stop that...

    Thinking about tracks for my Comanche but to be honest wouldn’t a pair of nice sleds suit your needs better skidoo even made a side by side sled years ago that would also work then u can ride them for fun too after u get to your cabin

      We have snowmobiles as well don’t work as well hauling gear and family. Way more fun than the Cherokee for sure but work differently.

  • @dirtgrazer

    Hello. I have a 99 Cherokee with American Truck Tracks which I think are the same as yours. I also have electric lockers front and rear. You will not be able to steer with the front end locked up. The rear locked up will just cause the rubber track to slip on the drive drum. Something has to give . Preferably not your diff. There is just too much traction to expect one track to spin as the other drives. Hope that make sense. Also the track flipping over is a major downfall with this setup. I bent a drive drum and spindle from this happening while doing exactly as you did This happened at very slow speed. I seen many videos of people driving fast through unknown terrain. A potential disaster. This brand of tracks are constructed with mild steel and fairly light duty. I think a side by side with tracks would be a more reliable setup. Cheers

    A rear locker is critical in deep snow. A couple tips I have…….. Those look to be nordtacks and if they are get the anti-rotation chains because you will break something for sure if you don’t. Also take it slow. When you put tracks on a vehicle in deep snow track spin will get you stuck bad. Take it slow and if you feel any spin at all in the tracks back up a couple ft and go at it again. You’ll slowly make your way up and not make trenches behind yourself that the tracks will want to catch in. We have been through powder up to our door handles and made it to the cabin.

    I found a video of tracks installed on a jeep liberty that had a stabilizer on each track that kept it from rotating like that. But the liberty is a coil over front suspension without any lift. But it had the same feature on the rear wheels

    • @JauntJunkies
      @JauntJunkies  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They just sent us some stabilizers but have not had a chance to install to fix the issue.

  • @nathanielnorton197
    @nathanielnorton197 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lockers would help some but most tracks suck in reverse, they don't have the shape to climb up on the snow so they tend to dig in. The tracks we have for our sxs does that, snowmachines do it too. The whole assembly rotating definitely doesn't help either.

    • @JauntJunkies
      @JauntJunkies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree. I run a track Jeep and have zero issues in reverse.
      Just rescued and recovered two rigs the same time this past weekend! Yt drop!
      Which brand track is this?

  • @timking2194
    @timking2194 ปีที่แล้ว

    The best machine for what your doing is a atv with side by side or utv tracks on it . Gives it more flotation in deep snow and can be run on little snow or dirt without overheating. They also have reverse. Down side is your in the weather when you ride them and you would need a sled to pull behind it for all your stuff you need for your stay.

    • @JauntJunkies
      @JauntJunkies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah we had a rzr with tracks and it was a pain trying to haul gear. We are switching to a rubicon for this winter so fingers crossed lockers and rear limiter chains make the difference.

    • @Justjeepingadventures
      @Justjeepingadventures 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I run a 21 rubicon on tracks. It’s wicked in the snow. Reverse too.
      Do you have the smaller tracks or the 5’ long ones?
      I have the longer ones

    I just saw your video are you mechanically inclined? Obviously you need to limit the travel of the tracks ! Chains ? Hello !

    • @JauntJunkies
      @JauntJunkies  ปีที่แล้ว +1
