Wow, those guys in Taurus got "unlucky" to stick out for 7 days, I'm surprised, as in those winter months nowadays seems like every week there is a group that goes up to Olallie... Guess it was a bit too much snow for everyone to break their own trail. :) Another great video! If that tracked Runner is still around, ask him to come out in February 2020, we'll make a run with our snowcats.
I wouldn’t call that unlucky I would call that stupid. They were super lucky somebody saved their asses :-). Probably should’ve opted for natural selection on that one though because they are just going to breed and cause more stupid.
@@curtisjohnson944 being stupid is a different subject on that matter; as far as being "unlucky" is for the fact that no one came in those 7 days, as that route is regularly wheeled by many PDX 4x4 guys. Natural section is a fact, and you cant argue with it for sure, it will catch up to anyone who gets in its way :) :) :) Cheers!
Really debating which way I should go with tracks. A used snowcat (spent a winter decades ago driving a Thiokol 2100, but the last thing I need right now is another rebuild project) so am a little prejudiced, tracks on a 4X4 (I unfortunately have a rig that they did not import very many of - aka would need custom mounts), tracks on a UTV, or a ATV (not my favorite, am old and want a seat and a heater.
Heh. You guys proved the old saying I told my daughter when I was teaching her to drive off road. Always remember the better your 4 wheel drive is, the worse you'll be stuck. Cool to watch though, you guys were more than prepared for what you were doing. Had all the right things with you to get unstuck. *:-)*
Man i love my 02' 4Runner. I know that 5VZ had to be Boggin in that snow, with those tracks, and at that elevation, Glad to see ole girl gettin it done!
Yeah it sounded like the engine was pretty much at it's limit. But they're tough. I've had my little 22RE churning away in second or third gear at 3,500 RPM, pedal to the floor, for extended periods of time.
Well those engines are gutless in the first place adding those tracks make it worse, plus I'm sure he had it in low range 4WD too. I was very happy to get rid of my 94 4Runner with the 3VZ-E engine, that thing was even more gutless than the 5VZ. The only plus for my 94 4Runner is I had the manual transmission, so it would somewhat get forced to move out of its own way. The 1GR-FE isn't any better in the newer 4Runners, that thing is still gutless...at least Toyota has continued on with the same old outdated gutless powertrains it seems, and the ride quality is horrible.
@Rusty Climber I had a 96 and now a 98 Grand Cherokee with the 4L I6, great engines, the 4Runner is just a pile of shit to begin with rear end was sitting on the bump stops after a couple of very light duty towing applications, and was extremely gutless...the new 4Runners are still gutless they just made them even bigger and kept the underpowered engine. I went back to a Jeep and wish I would never have wasted the money on a 4Runner glad to see that thing gone.
th-cam.com/video/pk_WeKbhFP0/w-d-xo.html This is the link to another video of this 4Runner on tracks. They are really fun and just opens new possibilities in the winter as far as destinations.
It helped that he was behind the 4Runner makin the tracks, but those XJ's are damn good offroad and in deep snow with the right tires and the right driver.
i cant tell you how many times while snowmobiling we can across the same scene, a minivan,or a sedan with all season tires stuck on the trail in 2 feet of snow... idiots great vid
Nice trail and trip. That recovery and hard packed snow inside track construction kind of remind me that idea of having those tracks enclosed, like some models of Tucker Sno-Cat has, might be good idea.
Jeans are called “death cloth” here in Montana, but you were ok since you had a warm vehicle. BTW, I hadn’t seen one of those inflatable bags. Works great. The people in the Ford learned a lesson, and glad they made it out.
Well I must say I found myself disappointed in trax after seeing this, but the suprise "hero" of the vid was the orange lifting bag that connects to the exhaust! That was awesome! I've never seen that before. 😁
OMG, that ford taurus had no business, no business at all out in that snow. What were they thinking? Ya gotta keep moving, the momentum is half of what keeps you going through the deep snow. Soon as you stop, you are in trouble.
The next time I'm in Oregon visiting the mother in law I will shoot you a message would love to go snow wheeling with you guys. Liked and subbed. Keep up the good work and enjoy the wheeling experience
Yeah, the third generation 3.4 liter is little under-powered for that application. But it performed a lot better than I thought it would. 4Runners are great - I’ve owned a few myself.
Can you do a review up to date 2020 what you need to get that setup & cost + gas is ? * what do you think is best mort power diesel or eco boast & a tiny 4 banger low gear to get more range as gas is ..not around.
It’s terrible on gas because the gear ratio is thrown way off with the tracks. We always carry 2 extra fuel cans, it’s a must!!! We don’t really have issues with power unless we are overloaded. Tracks are more fun in the really deep powder after snow storms.Bought them used for 5 grand (which was a steal)
Cool video, looks like a blast! I’m a Toyota guy, but my wheeling project is a 99 XJ (building it now). My question, what is with those morons bringing a mini van and a fwd sedan on that road?? They asked for that....idiots.
HAHA, happens a lot, you see vehicles like that all the time on back roads stuck in snow/mud. I pulled a Ford Escort out of a mud hole at our local cycle park a couple years ago...my first question was what the hell were you thinking...typical teenager type stuff though LOL...lack of brains. Sadly enough all I had with me was a tie down strap but it did pull that little car out of that mud hole LOL. I told that kid not to be out there like that again at least not with a friend that had a truck and a tow strap because up there you don't get cell phone service not that walking 3-4 miles would be that bad to get back out to the road but still you just never know.
Just thought I would mention there's a TH-cam channel called smarter everyday. He has a video on pulleys and a kind of pulley you can get that would make it much easier for you guys pulling yourselves out. I'm not going to explain it because he explains it the best.

It’s still around! I’ll definitely mention it, I’m sure he will be interested.

Living in Australia I’ve only seen snow like this a handful of times but I want theses tracks for my diesel Hilux. Coolest thing I’ve ever seen!
Awesome video. You guys are well preparared. That 4 runner is a beast!

I wonder if the 4unner is gutless!??😆
You guys are living good. Have more fun and be safe!
Wow, that is some deep snow. The Cherokee did really well without chains on the tires. That 4Runner was awesome with the tracks on it.
That deer was a really amazing capture.
Thanks for sharing this adventure. Beautiful.
Really enjoyed watching, music perfectly matched. Beautiful winter 👍
Watching that makes me miss my '95 4Runner. It was a great vehicle.
One of the best freaking videos I’ve seen, I’m in love with the scenery 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
Very nice! Looks like lots of fun 👍
That air Jack is sweet!
Danny What was the name of that air jack bag?
If you pause the video at 13:47 it says bushranger X jack
I’m from south Texas and never knew those existed

Yes and perfect for the snow or sand basically the only Jack that will work in either one
The star of this vid is the Bushranger jack! I NEED one!
Awesome content, chill music, did a great job making us feel like we’re there. Badass video 🤙🏼
And the tracks are awesome!
I owned a great Toyota surf (4 runner in USA) it was a great tool with recaro interior. Wish we got snow like that!!
I never realized how much I want tracks for my Landcruiser until now!

Great video lads, looked like good fun trip!
Nice work. Great family time. Love the x jack
Awesome wish we had this sort of snow in the uk
This looks soo good, So much fun, perfect snow conditions :D
That was very cool, thanks for sharing
The xj is like , "snow tracks", what are those 😃😎🤘
Jeepn Vw love those xjs.
It helped that he was behind the 4Runner makin the tracks, but those XJ's are damn good offroad and in deep snow with the right tires and the right driver.
LMFAO, WHAT ARE THOOOOOSE!😂
Right!! I was pretty surprised athlete well it did in that deep of snow
1 word" LOCKERS " front &rear
I've run those same roads. Not much snow though, my 72 blazer wouldn't that much snow. Liked to fish Timothy. Then would go on over to hwy 26.
Great impact choice to bring along on the trail. Not many bolts that bad boy cant break lose.
i would've brought a dewalt dcf899

Insane stuff! Tons of snow.

Works really good with sand situations also
Those tracks work pretty good on that 4runner hey
Teamwork makes the dream work 👍👍👍

Awesome vid. You guy's need a Swedish BV206. That'll do it.
wow, i really enjoyed watching this great video! as per the 172 thumb down haters they only wish they had tracks.

Pretty awesome!!
Epic! Got a lifted XJ and wish i could do something like this. 🙌
Looked like a fun day!
Awesome video
THE SHINING!!!
Keep waiting to see (here's JOHNNY)!!!!
I like those track. but they do not have enough approach angle on the leading tracks.. Would love to see manufacture add in a few more degrees.
Good vid, but lose the music. Too many people think they need to add music to outdoor vids, but most of the time it just ruins them.
It was either music or 3k rpm for 20 min hH
Who else thought the deer ran like donkey on shreck
Someone needs to make a design that incorporates skis, so you can ride higher through the deep snow.
Cool track system
The dear running for his dear life lol
abs jakson Deer* and it’s a her*

What brand of tires are you running and what are you running for air psi?.
BFG km2 ...
I will run anywhere from 5psi to 12 depends on conditions
12:45 Heck yea, I have the dewalt 20v cheap blower and it's awesome for getting fires roaring!

Bad ass video !!
BRO U GUYS NEED A SNATCH BLOCK....😁
SmarterEveryDay? XD
Your power steering probably over heated and you need at least a 4" suspension lift for those to work 😉.
All the reasons why I miss my 4 runner but plan to buy another one... sound like the motor was working hard the deeper the snow got..
Yeah, the third generation 3.4 liter is little under-powered for that application. But it performed a lot better than I thought it would. 4Runners are great - I’ve owned a few myself.

Taurus SHO understand owning 1 but not a regular Taurus ever ! Lol I have 2 3rd gen 4Runners they're a beast without tracks.

how do the tracks do on other surfaces? rocks going over trees and climbing
Only used on snow
Cool video I actually learned some stuff from it.
I love your guy
Do you think these tracks are decent quality? I was thinking of using them on a small lawn tractor to mess around with.
We haven’t had any problems with them breaking
Next time put a snow plow on bumper so you can shove the deep snow to the side. Opens road for following vehicles.
What is the durability and Maintenace like?
'GLOVES??? WHAT ARE GLOVES?!?'
I got the same tires on my jeep they don’t do too bad
