    Awesome! In other exciting news, I made a run to Wal-Mart for hygiene supplies and decided to check the MOTU-O pegs even though I had given up on looking for figures. And lo and mfing behold, there was 1 Orko, 2 Man-E-Faces, 1 Trap Jaw and OMG, 1 Scareglow! I never attacked a peg so fast LOL.

    So, timeline goes:
    A 9th mail away exclusive was planned and in limited production with the rest of the MOTU 1st series, MOTU hits retail stores, CPI takes notice and sues Mattel when MOTU is a big financial success, the 9th exclusive figure is seen as borderline copyright infringement and Mattel gets skiddish but goes forward with the giveaway offer with no marketing images or production documentation for "Savage He-Man" to protect the brand. At the same time, they were suing Remco for their Lost World of the Warlord which Mattel loses. Shortly afterwards Remco released Conan the barbarian figures (perhaps partially done as a middle finger aimed at Mattel) which looked more like He-Man than Conan, when Mattel was giving away a figure that looked more like Conan than Remco's Conan (IMHO). Such drama!

    Another great video, Scott. And 1982 was such a great year in Pop Culture. Is the release of 4 initial figures an industry standard? I notice that happens a lot. MOTU, Kenner's Indiana Jones, Star Wars Early Bird, Tomy's Tron, Clash of the Titans, etc...

    I remember Wonderbread used to have some sorta Super Hero Cards or something I would get it for hoping they would have em. Your sound around 2 mins in got a bit lower then it was normal again so figured was planned? You might want to blur that phone number off the truck if that isn't some advertisement to be safe heh. Guru, any idea why the vintage He-man was so perfect and that same kinda detail just isn't there in the newer toys? The rubber head sculpt, the cuts, shadows etc. What's the difference in budgets between then and now, and why?

    • @spectorcreative1872
      @spectorcreative1872  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it really is that technology has evolved and things that were not possible 30 years ago from a toy engineering perspective are. Case in point, the reason Kenner could not do a removable helmet Vader was it wasn't working from an engineering standpoint, the head kept coming out as a pin head. But fast forward to today and Hasbro can do this easily.

    Action figure related, what is the deal with the bendy figures, I have seen them come back into popularity, with DC super heros, the rubber ones with the metal frame, do they fall outside of any action figure rules because of tge way they are made?

      Sometimes yes. They can be licensed separately from traditional action figures

    Its possible the 9th mail away figure could have referred to Faker as he was not featured on the original 8 back releases. Did Wonderbread he man come out before or after faker is that known? They could have decided to release it as a regular release instead of mail away. Just a possibility or that could refer to the wonder bread he man.

    • @AWW8472

      Brown haired mail away He-Man was probably planned before Faker. I think the execs and lawyers looked at the Conanesque appearance of "Savage He-Man" and decided to try to quietly remove all evidence of it's existence then made Faker to look as different from He-Man but still use existing tooling molds. It's a shame they never thought to later make a green Slime Pit He-Man so I don't have to customize my own today. Here's hoping Mattel will make AntiEternia He-Man, Horde drone Slime He-Man and Savage He-Man in MOTU Origins.

      @@spectorcreative1872 I dont think its likely either. But it is weird that Faker is the only figure released on an 8 back he is not featured on. That makes him a 9th figure almost like he is an after thought tacked on. When exactly was wonderbread he man released is that known?

    You would go there. One of the few He-Man figures I don't have is the mail away figure. Not talking about Wonder Bread. There was a proof of purchase mail away King randor which I sent in for but never received. Generally the ones that turn off on eBay are pretty rough and trashed and further more stupid expensive. At some point I've got to look into was scared low a male away or what. I originally has here glow with a cape but at some point the cape turned into powder. Still have the figure in good shape I swear on a stack of Bibles my scareglow had a glow-in-the-dark Power sword similar to hemans but everybody claims he never had a glow in the dark sword. Finally prove the point here not that long ago that mine had a glow-in-the-dark staff turns out the staff was from another toyline not that I knew that as a kid. Ironically I'm technically missing evil Lyn. I bought one a few years back and presently don't know where I put it originally thought I had it and with my He Man collection that was in storage till I got it out a couple weeks ago you can get a good evil in these days for almost nothing still have her sceptre which proves I had one and can't find it. Can literally get evil-lyn and several figures usually in a group for like 20 on eBay for whatever reason that figures gone way down in value. I remember somebody a couple weeks ago trying to tell me scareglow was a $20 figure and couldn't understand why I wouldn't take $200 for it. I was telling him I turned down $200 where somebody offered it a few months back prior to him mentioning the figure. Faker was my first Masters of the Universe figure and I remember as a kid I couldn't understand why my Eman was blue with orange hair LOL. People would probably lose their crackers if they knew the story behind getting that figure and why it's one of the few that I own that is beating the sweet Jesus literally came that way I've sent Scott another one in really good shape and I've got a extra armour that I could have replaced his with but it's just gotten to the point where it's kind of the figure has character the way it is LOL. At some point I've got to go to the trouble of finding material that details the entire He-Man line prom back in the 80s up to things switched over to He-Man in space. Weirdly enough I don't have any of the toys from the He-man live movie which still kind of has me scratching my head I figured there would have been a few of them mixed in with my collection but when I went through the entire box the other day it was something I realized I haven't got a single figure connected to the live-action movie and I never had anything from He-Man in space everything I've got is strictly connected to the cartoon series and books. There were several random action figures that I got about five years back which I found out or from He-Man in space. One is one of the versions of Skeletor from that line I think it's missing a helmet or something like that the others are several of the henchmen. Really cool figures although wish they were at the same scale as the older He-Man figures. Kind of hilarious that the accessories sell for more than the figures most He-Man figures even in good shape are going like 10 or $20 each other than a really rare ones and yet the accessories without the figures fetch some crazy prices. Apparently if I want a king randor in decent condition it runs around 200 up to 300 plus the shipping which I still think is ridiculous then again people selling He-Man the Wonder Bread one have gotten some crazy prices I really wonder how many of them got out in the wild when you think about the number of King randor and scareglow and that it's quite possibly there's some weirdos out there a damn box of the Wonder Bread version of brown hair mail away He-Man just waiting to be discovered. I wouldn't be surprised if I had one as a kid and sold it or traded it at some point I see the damn figure mentioned some where's it looks so familiar. I remember the first time it got brought up on a program I specifically got the box of everything out looking to see if I had it because the figure look so familiar. Nice to finally find out that it was apparently a male away which makes sense.
