I go to school in New York. It's good. I would definitely say our high school is pretty open-minded and freespirited. My school consists of Brazilians, hispanics, blacks, and Asians. Very fewwww white kids go, I have only seen like 4 white kids and they are German transferred. But my school is pretty basic. Used to start at 8:30 now its at 7:50 to 2:50. We now have 9 periods ever since the 8:30 changed to 7:50 am. We have a decent Court yard, no playground. We have a good caf. Big gym. Tenis, football, baseball and track fields. The kids are seen as ghetto but really even my parents admitted that the kids are super hyper and wild but also mature and outspoken. The kids at my school fight randomly and we have security trynna break up the whole thing. Kids cut class but now they do sweeps in the hall where they announce students should be in class and none should be out and any student caught in the halls during a sweep gets a slip. If u get 2/3, slips, u will recieve ics or iss. The halls are also crowded and mad loud, but it's also pretty chill. Many kids in schy are lazy yet most are kids who have attitudes yet surprise teachers with their intelligence. The kids at school are bugged out but they are chill too

esp public high schools in low income cities like mine where it's the only one, the only lockers we get are pe lockers and we don't even get plates like that for our lunches, just little cardboard plates you would hold your hot dog in or just hold the plastic bowl itself. there are 2.5k-2.8k??? students going to my high school and I know my high school is meant to only hold a lot less than that. Some classes even have up to 35-50 kids right now because there are more kids in our school than last year and we have a 3 floor building in the front so when it's time to go to class, the stairs clog up with students for the first 2½ minutes or so out of the 5 minutes we have to get to class.

They showed the crappy school lunch but I just don’t think they showed how bad it tasted in comparison to how it looks. Playgrounds depend on the Highschool and every single time there was a fight I never got to see it because it was either really short or it was between the really popular failing students.

      It's not just Asia.
USA' is the one of the only places where kids can drive to school simply because you can't get your driving license before your majority elsewhere in the world.
In Europe everything is at 18yo, the majority.
      1. Driving (cars by default aren't set with automatic transmission box, you are obligated to learn how to drive a normal car by standard. It's way more difficult than automatic cars in the USA who are driven like big carting cars.
So you need to engage your full legal responsibility.)
Also very rare are the places in eu, unless you exhiled yourself hermit mode off grid away from everybody, that are are inaccessible with the underground/metro (USA subway?), train or at least the bus in rural areas)
      2. drinking (hard) alcohol = liquor (in Germany, Belgium, etc 'soft alcohol' = beer, wine, cider etc, can be drunk at 16), taking the risk to ingage you safety needs your majority.
      3. inlist in the army, taking the risk to ingage you safety needs your majority again. (18 for this but alcohol 21, wth USA ?!)
      4. gamble money of tokens representing monetary value (lottery, games, scratch tickets, machine slots in casual places)
Exception rights at 21 for entering a casino (because you can gamble at 18 but in casino's you can pawn off heirlooms/real estate etc, so it's in conflict with the 21 law exception to majority for buying/selling real estate
21 also to run for mayor or other elected official.

There are like 8-11 subjects (in 1 year) for different class so yeah, it the depends on how many subject we take. the more subjects taken, the later we go home.

After graduating from a private school ive realized that uniforms are a blessing no matter how ugly they look because just the thought of having to wear a different outfit everyday is such a nightmare to me😂 trust me kids, its much better that way. And regarding appearance as time goes by none of that matters since its just a matter of survival at that point so no one cares how anyone looks. Also, ive realized that being in one class is much better than switching classes for each subject (to me at least) since i created a greater bond with my friends since i was in elementary school till I graduated HS and we’re still as close in uni.

Being stuck in one hell whole for a whole year and off to the next, the next year, not meeting new ppl and their cultures. If you are a good student you will learn, I am an engineer I regularly outperformed most. I was not hindered, the option was there for me. If we are being honest about 70% of the population will not need such things, it's actually more important for them to find out who they are a develop themselves in there own interest.
One of my best friends was a slacker jock type, he would have had adult life if he was forced to waste all his time on Math stuff, he is a successful person now since schools here allowed him to have time for his own interest. youre probably aware of this but high schools in America vary a lot depending where you're at so I just wanted to share a different experience from what was shown in the vlogs!
the high school I went to had the basics of lockers in the hallway, driving to school, lunch, etc. but while we didn't have a uniform the dress code was VERY strict and enforced every day. there was also a strict no phone policy so no one would be able to vlog even if they wanted to. the administration was very strict and made a bunch of rules for no reason but to assert authority and made high school feel very oppressive for both the teachers and students. we also only had a trained nurse in the building one day a week, although some teachers had a little training/experience to deal with emergencies. on top of all that we had a cockroach problem, not a day went by I didn't see one
my school had a "block schedule" so instead of 7 or 8 classes a day for 45 minutes, we had 4 classes a day for 90 minutes and the classes only lasted half the school year, then we would do 4 new classes for the second half of the year. it's actually been proven to be a worse schedule for learning and even at our school it shower worse test scores but they still insisted it was better for some reason 🤷

      @chloeelaine1526 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There were two separate lunches, during which we were confined to the lunchroom/cafeteria or the hall imediately outside of it, unless you were going out for lunch (only juniors and seniors were allowed to do this) or in a classroom with a teacher, at their permission
You could wear "whatever you want" so long as it followed the dresscode (shorts/skirts reaching to or beyond fingertips, shoulders and midriff can't be exposed, shirt straps at least 3 finger wide, no hats/hoods/bandanas, etc...)

In Belgian schools we are allowed to leave the school ground around lunch time (which is 55min) and eat/hangout outside of school. And if you're lucky and the class after lunch is cancelled (maybe teacher is sick etc) then you can stay outside for another 55min. This only applies to public schools, in Catholic and private schools this isn't allowed (and they where uniforms). My friends and I left the school ground to travel to Paris which was 4h to go to the bts concert (we went to go and tell the secretary that we would be absent for the rest of the day and they called our parents and our parents agreed, so we had to bring in a sick note by the next week). And before most schools used to have vending machines (snacks, chips, drinks etc), but some years ago some schools removed their vending machines bcs apparently the snacks weren't healthy. School life in Belgium doesn't exactly look like school in the US, bcs we have our own type of freedom like wearing makeup, leaving school during lunch, choosing what hair style we want, wearing our own clothes etc. While the biggest difference I've seen between belgian schools and American schools was that Americans can drive to school and also film/be on their phones during classes, cheerleading, having a sports team. These are the thing that we don't have or aren't allowed in belgian schools.

I've had the weird experience of going back to my high school as a (supply) teacher in the UK and it really hadn't changed much. I've also taught English in Korea.
I guess the big difference in UK public schools vs American is we wear uniforms and you only chose your subjects after your 3rd year of high school, and mandatory school finishes at 16. School starts 8:45 with classes from 9am to about 4pm/4:30pm with 5 classes per day and the only subjects you have to keep through to your final year are English, Maths and Science.
The big difference between the UK and Korean school is I cannot for the life of me remember ever doing homework other than coursework and after school classes or afterschool academies just don't exist here. Also, there is NO contact allowed outside of schools between teachers and parents or students. Students absolutely cannot have their teacher's email address or phone number. I felt so mean in Korea when students wanted to add me on kakao and I said no.

When I was in high school no one really at much at lunch since the break felt too short to both eat and socialize. Most kids would snack during classes and just do whatever during lunch.

    My school:
Students that from home have to be school before 7:10 a.m. And the students that stay at school (Boarding school) have to be at the place we gathering before 7a.m.
    Study start at:
7:30 but 8:00 for Sunday since the assembly is longer
    Lunch break? :
    9:30 a.m. (13&14&15 years old students)
    10:00 a.m. (16&17 years old students)
It's was 20 minutes but the Principal change it to 30 minutes 😆
    Go home:
    1:50 p.m. But 3:30 on Wednesday
So... I think my school is not that rough
    UNIFORM?
Of course, if you don't want to wear it. You can go to the Principal office cause you the only person in the school that didn't wear it and many students will look at u. Imagine how much anxiety that you gained by not wearing a uniform 😂

This is was my high school schedule, as much as I remember.
    8:30am-3pm
~1hr10min classes. 5min break in between classes, except for lunch which was either 30 or 40 mins.
I was in concert and jazz band which were extracurricular activities. So everyday we either got up super early for rehearsal before school, or stayed late for rehearsal after school.
That's one thing that most of these high school videos miss out on, that students can participate in clubs and extracurricular stuff (asides from sports). It can help as something to put on your resume for admission to good universities and stuff like that.

    My public school in California:
6 classes per day (seniors can have 4/5 classes, and you can also choose to have 7 or 8 or take other classes at a college)
56 minutes each class (omg I hate this)
7 minutes to walk to the next class
one 13 minute snack break in the morning,
30 minutes of lunchtime (omg I hate this too)
school starts at 8:00 (or 7:00 for some), ends at 2:55 (or at different times for people taking a different number of classes).
    So,
I took 6 classes for my Freshman year,
8 classes for my Sophomore year (school started 7:00 and ended 6:25 for me)
6 classes plus a class at a college (2 and 1/2 hours) for my Junior year,
4/5 classes and a class at a college for my Senior year.
So everything's different for schools in different places.
I really hate the fact that there are 56 minutes for each class (a bit too long) and that the 7 minutes allowed is to walk across the whole campus to another class (ahhhhhhhhhhhhh)

Ok at my high school. We have 4 classes a day(A and B days), each one is 1 hour and 45 minutes long. We only get 5 minute break to ONLY get to our next class. We have a dress code(laid back but enforced for certain things). A three story school with tiring stairs you have to walk up and down each day. We only get 25-30 minutes to eat lunch. No snack bar, but we have about 3 vending machines in the school in total. There's no playground for free time(NO FREE TIME EVER), get our phones taken away for the rest of the day if we're caught. This is in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Savannah Arts Academy. The schools in movies and TV shows are all false and just not accurate. This video/vlog is not at all accurate to schools in Georgia, just saying. Not sure about other schools but that's not how it is here

We have a rule that if your GPA is lower than an 80 you are kicked out cause we have an enforced academic rule. The way you get in is on your academics and also your auditions for your major(I.e music, theater, visual arts, communications), we're an arts school.

I went to a public high school. We didn’t wear uniforms at my school when i attended, but my youngest brother went after i graduated and the new principal implemented them. We had 7 classes too. Each about 50 minutes with a 5 minute period to get to your next class and a 55 minute lunch. Except for Wednesday’s and Thursdays where we would have odd numbered classes on Wednesday and then come to school two hours later on Thursday (the teachers and faculty would have staff meetings) and have even numbered classes for about 1.5 hr. The lunch period arrangement changed over my years of attending. My school was divided into separate “houses”, each with a different academic focus. There was one for computer science, another for geo-engineering, another for STEM, one for liberal arts and then mines was for visual and performing arts. One or two houses would share a lunch period, so there was A, B or C lunch, but so many ppl would skip classes to go to lunch with their friends so they went down to two and then ultimately to one. Juniors and Seniors were allowed to go off campus if they wanted to and you would show your badge to the campus police officers to be let off the lot.

My high school had 2 stories. We also had tennis courts, soccer/rugby, and football fields. We had 2 gyms. One was smaller than the other. Lockers where optional but they where all in the freshman hall so none used them. We also had a cafe where you could buy coffee and food. Upperclassmen also had the option of going off campus for lunch. We had 4 90 minutes classes each day and 30 minute lunches. School started at 9 I believe and ended at 4:20. 2 years of a foreign language was a requirement (German, Spanish, French, ASL, or Mandarin).

    Fun fact:
I'm Italian and in my school you can drive your car, you can dress how you like (except shorts and skirts), you can put make up and do your hair how you want.
*BUT* there aren't lockers for the books, for every subject we have a single classroom. Every class has the same students so we don't change class every 50 minutes, but we wait for the teacher.
Every morning school starts at 8:00, but you just enter in and go directly to your class.
The only subject they let us choose are french or spanish, the other 10 you have to do it, LOL (In my school there are 11 subjects, I do the Alberghiero, school for who wants to become a chef, a barman or a waiter).
There aren't clubs, we don't have a cafètteria but our cooking class that we have two times at week but just once we eat, because we are the ones that cook.
Our teachers most of them have preferences, and sadly we don't have anymore a breaktime. We HAD just one, but they took it and said to eat when you want but you have to follow the lesson still. In the bathroom you can go just three times and your name will be wrote by the teacher on a paper.
Good thing is we go out three days at 13:00 and two days at 13:50.
Until now we went until saturday but maybe it will change.

When I was in high school I was at school from 7:45 to 4:15 for some years. Other years it was 8:40 to 4:15 or 7:45 to 3:30 depending on class schedule. Lunch was 45-50 minutes, and you had 5 minutes to get from class to class. After school was sports or clubs. The sports and clubs are sorta for students to enjoy them, but sports also can get the school more recognition or funding/donations and are promoted as a way for kids to have better college resumes

The security thing is just because we're all terrified someone might go nuts and shoot up a school. And this is honestly one of the nicest public schools I've ever see, mine has kids vaping and smoking weed in the bathrooms and a couple of fights a day. Also, the no uniform thing doesn't mean we can where whatever unless you're a guy. Girls still get SUPER policed and kicked out of classes a lot bc the dress codes are hella vague and sometimes teachers just don't like your clothes so they send you to the office. I once wore a sweater all year, and a week before school ended I got dress coded for it bc they said it was cut too short. And I hadn't grown out of it either, it fit exactly the same as when I got it bc I'm short. I missed half an exam for that.

Personally my school(American) was different. Normally had 7 classes from 8:00am to 3:00 or 4:00pm. Most classes were 45-50 minutes long with 5 minute breaks in between to switch classes. Lunch was 20-30 minutes and the food was decent. We could not choose what we wanted. Makeup and clothes did have rules(length, phrases, boldness, etc.). Phones could be kept in locker or bag but if seen during class they were taken, The length of time depended on the teacher. Plus our library was small and honestly sucked. Only outside time was for Phy Ed. Never had a playground at a high school unless it was k-12. Extracurriculars were encouraged if not pushed. Even parking for self drivers was restricted.

Some points about American high schools that I would like to share that weren't covered in these vlogs:
1: A lot of American high schools aren't 1 floor buildings. My high school alone had 6 floors & was in the process of adding a 7th floor when I graduated. 1 floor buildings are usually found in small towns & even then they're rare. This also applies to most middle schools & even some elementary schools. Hell, out of the 5 schools I ended up going to, only 2 were 1 floor buildings & even one of those were in the process of adding an additional floor by the time I left.
2: Speaking of school buildings, usually, if you do happen to find a 1 floor building school in bigger cities in America, you'll more than likely see 3-4 rows of trailer-like buildings next to them. Those buildings are called "Portables" & are actually classrooms. Typically for any grades higher than 1st or 2nd grade (depends on the school). These buildings are freezing in the winter the further you get into the Midwest & Northern sides of the US. They are not fun.
3: Most high schools in the US have a student drug dealer. If you're school was like mine, you more than likely have several of these student dealers. Especially in public schools. Most don't get caught & we honestly don't know how. But we don't question it.
4: Public schools in the US are actually tuition free. Nobody in the public school system will pay tuition from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Some schools even include Pre-school. So we don't have to pay tuition for the first 13-14yrs of our educational careers. It's lit.
5: Private schools & Public schools are EXTREMELY different from each other. I have never been to a private school myself, but I had friends that had attended Private schools & they have told me that the differences between the two are astronomical. This is mainly because Public schools are just wild in general. An actual example of this is when my friend's Private school was planning their junior trip to France, my Public school was "fixing" the bullet holes & cracks in our windows by slapping on some duct tape & calling it good.
6: In relation to #5 with Public schools being wild: In many Public schools, fights always break out. And I mean ALWAYS. You won't go a week without hearing about a fight breaking out. Sometimes the fights become small riots depending on the students. My school had small riots monthly. And they got rough. One teacher even died from a stress induced heart attack because he was trying to break up a fight before it turned into a small riot. It was not a fun day for anyone.
7: Again, in relation to #5: Crazy shit will always happen in Public schools. You won't know when & you won't know why. But your best bet is just not to question it. My school, again, is a perfect example of this. There were several times random animals were let loose in my school. From cats, dogs, birds, snakes. There was even a peacock once that had escaped from our local zoo. There was a student who set up a portable tattoo shop in the back of my history class my Freshman year. And even I, myself, ended up helping a girl give birth in the middle of my sophomore algebra class. On the plus side, it was a rather quick birth. It was an interesting day to say the least.
8: Lastly, we actually have no choice in how small our lunches are & we almost never get full off of what they give us. It's honestly quite sad & a lot of us even steal more food from the cafeteria because we are rather hungry.

My school was 8am-2:35pm, 7 classes, 1500 students total. I would say it was a mix between the first and second school because it was a public school with more funding. Fun fact, I had an assigned locker but I never went to it in all 4 years of school (except on the last day of each year when you had to unlock it for the end of year cleaning... but I always had to go to the secretary to get my locker combination first)

In my school. Morning sched Students need to woke at 4am and go to school at 5am. 5:40 is first bell Meaning the ceremony is preparing. 5:45 is a very late time, meaning the ceremony is already started. At 6am , students clean the classroom first, then the attendance committee will do their thing. At 6:30 students will start the lessons. 8:30- 9:00 - freshman's break time. 9:15- 9:45 - sophomores break time. The seniors are on separated school. 11-school's over. It depends if students have other lessons sched. But they're limit time on school is 12- 2pm. Non sched students need to wake up at 11, 12 is the start of classes (sometimes they have special subject so they need to go before 10 on school) their ceremony will start on each classrooms unlike the morning sched students doing ceremony on the school quadrangle. 5pm is schools over for them. But sometimes they have subj sched (6pm). And now for me, a senior, we woke up at 4am and then at 6pm is our schools over -_- theres nothing like students studying on school because students are not allowed on school on 7pm

i went to a pretty small public high school (about 500 students all together). we werw allowed to drive to school if we got a parking pass, or ride the bus. we had free breakfast, and the lunch was usually bigger that what i saw in these videos, and also free. you could bring your own too, though. we had 7 classes a day, 50-55 mins each, 5 mins between classes, a 10 minute break after 5th period, and 45-50 min lunch (you could eat inside or outside). the only students who got full sized lockers were seniors, everyone else got half wall lockers. obviously no uniform, but still had a dress code (no tank tops, crop tops, leggings/yoga pants, or jeans with rips) but colored hair and tattoos/piercings were allowed. and so was pda as long as you werent straight up making out in the hallway (you were allowed to kiss and hold hands and stuff). girls smoked cigarettes in the bathrooms (even though it isnt allowed), and we were pretty close with all of our teachers. we would have occasional lockdowns and drug checks where police would bring in dogs, too. we were absolutely NOT allowed to have our phones out unless it was in art class and that was just because the art teacher didnt mind. you have to have a certain amount of credits to graduate (i cant remember but i think 27? 1 per class over 4 years, and u could have a free period as a senior). and we got to chose our own electives.

The way my school is so similar to the korean schools. We go in at 8 am and leave at 3pm. We have 5 classes a day and they’re an hour long each. One break which is 10 minutes long and a lunch with is and hour and five minutes long. Uniform is a must! For girls it changes depending on the grade. Kindergarten-5th grade wear jumpers, 6th-9th wear skirts shirts and ties and your shirt must have a school crest on the top pocket. Grades 10-12 wear a different colour skirt, shirts, vests, ties, stockings and crests! No makeup at all, no weave or extensions, no cell phones or any electrical devices (smart watches, cameras etc) no painted nails. Skirts must be 3 inches belong the knees as well! Shoes must be black for males and females. Socks must be either white, navy blue or green. Girls socks must be thigh high. It sounds horrible but it was cool 😂

I like the fact that they get to see a glance what it’s like to be in a American High school. Because in most places around the world it’s a lot different to our own. Most of High Schools do have strict codes and rules to follow while others are less strict. The only thing I can’t say I like is that they never really went into detail that most of the schools have different systems, requirements, etc. from each other. Overall I do like the video they presented to them as a way to show them America’s High Schools.

In our country, school starts at 7:30am, and ends at 12:30pm from Year 1 up until Year 10. We do have extra classes in the afternoon (once you get into secondary school), but that depends on the teacher. And it's usually not everyday, maybe like once or twice a week. It all really depends if you need any remedial hours or not.

A lot of us were close with our teachers but there's a rule you can't be in personal contact until you graduate. Though we felt like some of them were like family. We do have dress codes but didn't have uniforms. Dress codes change depending on the trends that are going on too. My highschool was all one floor but it was made in the 30s and added on to. Not all schools have lockers or even tall ones. Some have 2 people to a locker. My school had the tall lockers but other schools around us had half the size. We hardly were allowed at our lockers and made to quickly go to class. Highschool was stressful lol but it is what you make it.

We couldn’t bring our own water bottles because people thought they were filled with vodka. The halls were always overcrowded and loud so I was too scared to use my locker. Not enough time either.
