did no one ever theorize that the reason he can only turn into animals is because his human physiology wont allow for the shape shifting into objects and the like, because if he did he wouldn't have a brain and therefor would die, martians entire body works as a brain, allowing them to retain their knowledge and to be able to think and act even after becoming a inanimate object like a cup or something, whilst we humans need a brain to send signals threw out our body to do any thing at all, this is why he can only turn into animals, cause animals have brains, its also why in some of the animated movies and such when he turns into aliens or demons from the dimension trigon is from, he has difficulty controlling it and is in a lot of pain, because they may have a completely different type of brain then what exists on earth and so it takes him some time, for his body to figure it all out and such, and as for other super humans in the dc universe who are human but can shape shift into inanimate object, they may have a very different physical make up then that of ordinary humans, like what beast boy was before being injected with martian blood, in other words the blood works by re-configuring his form, but can only do so, so long as he has a brain capable of sending it signals to do so, because at his core he is still very much so a normal human, and its the blood that does all the work based on signals from his brain, this is also why he has no other abilities that martians have, his skin becoming green is merely a side effect of his blood preparing his body to be able to handle the reconfiguration of shape shifting
The Genius Gamer, there is nothing wrong with having in depth discussions of any variety outside of Academia. Don't feel threatened by the paragraphs, embrace them.
But Ms.Martin said her blood only occurs on the CELLULAR LEVEL so beast boy shouldn't be able to turn into anything other than organic life forms with a similar cell structures like animals and not plants .
There is a possibility that though it was the right blood type it contained residual DNA structures. Giving his body the information it would need to pull of shapeshifting.
The real question should be: "If Beast Boy can turn into alien animals as well as Earth animals, then why can't he turn into something like a Kryptonian?" Even a knock-off Kryptonian is still very powerful
Personally I think it's because maybe he can only turn into animals from the planet that he dwells in because they share the most DNA with him so it's easier for him to transform into them rather than some sort of alien creature with completely different DNA
Animals from other planets wouldn’t be animals as they wouldn’t be genetically related It would make more sense if he could turn into any living thing from earth or at least part of the next closest kingdom fungi
Jared Flynn Fly or Mosquito brains in no way have the capacity for human thought and he can turn into those hell martians can turn into inanimate objects.
@@angelomassaro4487 oh dang didn't know that, hmm idk maybe you just have to be full Martian to take full advantage I know the Martians are psychic so maybe having just a normal human brain limits how much control he would have over the cells
I was thinking the same! Between all those Titans in that room they could have EASILY figured out a way to keep Gar alive with out needing an alien blood transfusion
I like the third theory. I might add on that maybe he got the green skin from Miss Martian. I know she's actually a white Martian but she was green at the time she changed her blood and she probably forgot to make that change before the transfusion.
+TheFounderUtopia That could be true. But also maybe when she transformed her skin green and changed her DNA to match his it set it so his skin was permanently green. kind of like how if a person is around silver dust too much their skin turns blue. Heck maybe Miss Martian unconsciously wanted him to be more like how she wanted to be and accidentally turned his skin green.
+Jack Strange Another point for why it would be the third theory instead of the others is that Beast Boy seems to take on some characteristics of the various creatures - instincts and the like. They even appear to stay to a degree in non-full animal form (the way he tilts his head when he is being petted is very reminiscent to a dog). Ms. Martian generally just changes to look like x kind of like putting on a mask.
His Beast boy from is probably just a former he likes to be in instead of his natural form. Much how Miss Martian prefers to be in the form of a green Martian when she's actually a white Martian. Or take Mystique from X-men First Class. She liked looking human and made a the decision to look that way but if she's shocked out of it she reverts to her blue form, her natural form. Her human form would be like BB's beast form and Raven's mutant would be BB's human like green form.
He actually did that in season 4 finale of the original Teen Titans. The only problem is that it was Trigon, who couldn't be taken down so easily. Still got a pretty hilarious reaction out of him xD
Beast Boy was originally human. The Martian blood transfusion might have given him those powers, but they might have been hard to control because of that (Alternatively, the powers might have been diluted because Miss Martian now had human blood). Beast Boy lived at an animal sanctuary, so he probably knew how animals worked better than anything. My theory is that it's completely possible for BB to do all the things Martians can do, but he only knows how to turn into animals.
@Lil Heinz94 You all have forgotten that blood cells dies, it's more logical to sustain the theory of metagenes being activated after the transfusion than this other theories that implies in this "same blood running in his and hers veins"
I was going to suggest that the reason he can't transform into anything other than Earth animals is because he probably has to share some sort of common ancestor with an animal to transform into it and if you believe in evolution all animal life today evolved from microorganisms in the ocean millions of years ago so that would explain why he's only able to transform into Earth animals as opposed to some sort of alien life form which probably shares is 0 DNA with him
Here's another one. Garflied' affiliation with animals allows him to shapeshift with his knowledge of which animals are good for hunting, etc he can turn into them for better suited per battle
So he only turns into animals because he's more comfortable and more adept. He works with animals so he's close to animals. And turning into them also helps him understand the animals better
+Jonathan Reyes that and the fact that turning intp a plant or inanimate object would kill tom sonda his body changes to be that form completely ex; a fork....forks dont have brains hearts or are living...and if he becomes a plant he stays a plant...no brain..no memory no nothing.....huh kinda like the BB of TTG...uggh so many wasted dollars...oh the nightmares.
That's definitely an added layer but I personally think he's limiting himself. Whatever reason that limit is there. Even looking at older versions of Beast Boy he's able to change into Dinosaurs the thing about that I think is potentially the most significant is these are animals he would have absolutely no way of knowing how they actually were so it's just as likely it's what he believes they were like.
I think the second theory is true, but since he was a kid at the time and grew up around animals he only really tried to shift into animals. Being a kid, he just assumed he had the ability to turn into animals instead of wondering what else he could do.
That reminds me of the old "Teen Titans" cartoon, when he visited Tamaran and shifted into one of the animals from that planet. One of the team comments that they didn't know he could turn into alien animals, and he remarks that he didn't know either. It's all on belief systems. The metagene theory doesn't ring true to me, since he had the physical change in his appearance. If her blood didn't affect his body, it's a strange coincidence that he turned the same color as she is.
In season 2 episode 10, while Aqualad is taking a tour of the Reach's ship, they state one of the labs is to study humans with active metagenes only to show the lab is holding Beast Boy and Impulse captive. So the show hints towards theory 3 as they pointed out Beast Boy actually has an active metagene
Korey Parks Teen Titans Go is actually very hilarious. I was totally against it till I watched my am episode with my younger brother and it’s really funny. It is a little stupid and it doesn’t do justice on the Teen Titans (kind of ruins the seriousness of the comics) but in all good jokes, it’s entertaining without a doubt.
What I’m curious is, in the continuities that have him connected to The Red, why he can’t turn into humanoid life forms native to Earth; Atlanteans, Kryptonians, etc. And yes, Superman should be a “native” to Earth as far as The Red is concerned, The Red, The Green and The Clear are surprisingly welcoming given their primal natures. If Hell’s Red Parliament was willing to instantly accept Beast Boy and let him turn into demons, if he could turn into a Tamaranian frog monster and Earth’s Parliament of Trees were willing to accept the mysterious Grey until they started trying to take over; Superman should have long ago been accepted as being a creature of the only home he has ever known, and saves on a regular basis.
Probably never tried to, in the old "Teen Titans" cartoon, when he visited Tamaran and shifted into one of the animals from that planet. One of the team comments that they didn't know he could turn into alien animals, and he remarks that he didn't know either. It's all on belief systems.
Eric Tripps its humour relies on everybody be being selfish random or robin forcing his team to do something or raven doing a spell orsome dumb spec8al episode irs running dry like the liud house but it isnt terrible and its movie was honestly pretty great
@@atomic-art might have to fix your grammer a bit was a struggle to read. But i think the reason people dont like teen titans go is because its catered to kdis
Zen Aku Okami maybe miss Martian had the ability to change her DNA? Like one that would contain the white Martian genetics she could change to one of a green Martian. I dunno but that’s a really good point. They maybe just wanted to keep with beast boys origin since he had green skin in the later comics
I’ve always wondered how BB could morph into any animal, like actually how; as in, how does his body decide the animal to change into. We’ve even seen him turn into a creature native to Starfires’s planet in Teen Titans (I don’t remember the episode’s name). So does his brain carry information/DNA of every existing and extinct living being on earth/universe? If so, that must be a nearly infinite catalog of species, which might include species in between evolutions. And why stop at currently know animals; why not future ones; in other words, can he mutate a species to have a certain trait? Like and elephant with bigger tusks, or snake with more lethal venom? In my opinion, the most logical way he could transform into an animal, is if he had previously been exposed to them physically, or absorbed a sample of their DNA, like from a dog’s saliva, or a falcon’s feather, or a T-Rex’s fossil remains.
Well here is the good part: he's at least once been able to turn into a fully sentient alien species, aka Technically he could transform into a Kryptonian, and be a green Superman.
Heroes uknowjusticemill Beast boy have all the powers of the species that he transforms into, i dont know about manhunter, but beast boy did have the powers and weakness from the other alien.
I know what you mean, I thought a few of the first ones were entertaining, which the clip is from, but it does get pretty old pretty quick, shame they don't just bring the old teen titans back :(
+NeedleMouse Productions Yea I really liked the old Teen Titans better, even though my step sis likes the new TTG. I think because she doesn't like how serious the old Teen Titans are, which is the best part. All the drama.
I know most people hate TTG but I love because it was meant to be a funnyer version of the original Teen Titians it was never meant to replace and that is what you people got wrong thinking that it was meant to replace it but it wasn't it was just meant to make people laugh and be kid friendly since some stupid adults complained about the Original Teen Titians being to violent and sometimes scary but other than that TTG was never meant to replace the original just to make us laugh our heads of until milk shout out of our nose. so calm down bro and just relax and be cool
So your points in this video assume that Beast Boy in Young Justice follows the same rules as comic book Beast Boy when the evidence suggests otherwise. In the comics for those who don't know without getting into much detail about his comic book origin Beast Boy regardless of his skin color whether its the classic green or the New 52 Red has always gotten his ability to shape shift by tapping into the Red which is a natural force in the DCU that connects all animal life together. So he can't turn into cars or trees but he can turn into bugs or horses or in some cases even dinosaurs or mythological creature because in a comic book world where all these living breathing creatures are alive somewhere its simply a matter of tapping into the right vein of the Red and becoming what he wants to become. However in the world of Young Justice all evidence suggest that Gar received his powers from Miss Martians blood and not the Red which would make his powers derivative of Martian shape shifting. So like any Martian Beast Boy has to study the the thing he want's to turn into like we see him do when he encounters a house pet on Rann, before the team goes off to search for the Kroloteans we see Beast Boy examining the thing and at one point he even turns his head into the creatures head then later in the episode we see him flying around in the form of that same creature. To support my argument about Martian shape shifting I'll point out that the form Miss Martian spends the most her time in is based on an actress from her favorite show which she was obsessed with and therefore is deeply familiar with and when she and Conner impersonated the Terror Twins she had to study the girl whose name escapes me to better impersonate her. So in reality Garfield is capable of turning into just about anything like any other martian shape shifter but he chooses to turn into the animals because having grown up in Africa on a wild life preserve with a veterinarian he is deeply familiar with a variety of animals and his apparent inability to change his skin color makes just about any other aplication of his shape shifting powers useless to him.
"So your points in this video assume that Beast Boy in Young Justice follows the same rules as comic book Beast Boy when the evidence suggests otherwise." When does he say that? In the first 10 seconds of the video he explicitly states that there are many versions of Beast Boy. And that he was only basing his video/theories off of Young Justice's Beast Boy. I don't remember him acting as if Young Justice's Beast Boy's rules carry over to the comic's Beast Boy.
I was referring to the assumption that Beast Boy can only turn in to animals because of some factor inherent to his powers as opposed to my conclusion that it is a personal choice on Garfield's part.
TheMangakid1995 I'm still confused about how you came to the conclusion that his theories assume that BB's powers follow the came rules as the comic. In the comic Garfield gets sick and his dad gave him an experimental "cure" which turned him into a species of monkey that was immune to the disease. A side-effect of the cure was his skin change and an ability to turn into any animal. I know that the situations from the comic and the show are kind of similar, but I don't remember seeing anything in the video where he assumed that cartoon and comic BB have the same rules for their abilities. The second of his three listed theories isn't tied to a factor inherent to BB's powers, if that's what bothers you. (Although it's not his favorite theory of the three.) It talks about how BB could turn into anything, but does not due to trauma/a mental block.
The 1st and 3rd theory both assume that Garfield can only turn into animals because of some inherent factor of his abilities as is the case in the comics when the show offers little evidence to support that idea. Also made a point of leaving out any of Beast Boy's comic book origins in my original comment because they have little baring on a discussion of how his powers function across different mediums. The first theory claims that because Beast Boy doesn't posses any martian abilities beyond shape shifting then his shape shifting may also be limited in some way which frankly doesn't make any sense because there is no evidence to suggest that a normal Martian or by extension Beast Boy are actually transforming into another species on a genetic level when they transform rather Garfield's interactions with alien fauna on Rann and Miss Martian having to take a closer look at Garfield blood before she could mimic it both suggest that they are actually mimicking these things as opposed to actually becoming them like comic Beast Boy typically would. The 2nd and 3rd theory have similar problems in my eyes in that they both assume complicated reasons for things that can be explained more simply. Explanations that i tried to outline clearly in my first comment so I don't feel the need to repeat them here. While it is obvious that Garfield struggles with PTSD after the death of his mother assuming this trauma has created a type of mental block preventing him from tapping the full range of his shape shifting powers is overly complex and a little silly for this show where more often then not the solution to big questions have been simple and straight forward. I see it as people trying to tie some imagined power limitation to his admittedly poor emotional mental state The 3rd theory clearly suggest that Garfield's powers function the way they do in comics just with out directly naming the Red as the source of his catalog of forms and again I make the point that the solution is more likely much simpler then that based on the shows track record. I hope I've made my points a little more clear now. All I'm trying to do is criticize the theory's not call them or the people that came up with them stupid. At the end of the day were all just nerds trying to pick up the pieces of a great show that got killed to soon.
Thanks for clarifying. I understand where you're coming from a lot better now. I didn't watch all of Young Justice, but if Martians cannot change their DNA, why did Beast Boy turn green instead of white?
When Beast Boy turns into a bird, or an elephant ... where does the extra mass come from? Is it sucked in from another dimension? Is energy pulled in from somewhere else and converted to mass? Stop for just one second and consider how difficult it is to turn a Carbon atom into any other atom: it takes huge particle accelerators, and there are limited options for what it can be split into. Beast Boy is *changing the ratio of different atoms and total number of them* in his body -- completely defying conservation of matter and energy. And we're asking why something which can manipulate matter and energy on that level IS LIMITED IN WHAT IT CAN CHANGE INTO?!?? We *should* be asking why he can't just create directed nuclear explosions from his palms, obliterating anything in front of him! It would actually be EASIER than what he's doing!
Daniel Budney i don't know too much about it but imagine if i can manipulate that mass and say put the mass off a blue wale into his arm and give a heavy punch. Could he manipulate this mass and have super strength in his normal state?
What happens when he shape shifts is that his body's properties either becomes larger or smaller depending on the animal which allows him to function like it.
In terms of superfluous-versus-necessary in light of the evidence, both "Martian blood" and "Metagene" are equally parsimonious. Martian-based blood in a transformed state logically signifies an ability for the recipient of the blood to transform in a limited capacity. And that it happened after the blood transfusion and his skin turns green as a signal that he has the power, the Martian blood is the most direct explanation. The Metagene, meanwhile, is a genetic system (not really a single allele but a handful of biochemical pathways) that enables those possessing it to adapt to stressful and strenuous (most directly, life-and-death) situations. The resulting power-set is derived from the circumstances the person experiences which activates their Metagene, as well as phenomena in their life that influences their personality. Thus the son of a scientist who works on teleportation beams becomes able to teleport. Thus a teen who's given constant electrical shocks becomes able to manipulate electricity. Thus someone who gets hit by lightning becomes as fast as lightning. Thus a Japanese girl and a Native American boy are able to manipulate the spiritual energies that surround them, derived from their both coming from highly-spiritual cultures. (ninja'd due to accidental early-posting) So, assuming solely that his powers come from the Metagene, Beast Boy surviving the encounter allowed his metagene to center around the animals that he grew up with and raised and cared for. ----- Neither of these, however, fully accounts for it all. Why is his skin green? Martian blood, obviously. Why only animals and animal-like things? Metagene, obviously. If it were only the Martian blood, then he should be able to transform at a wider variety than he is shown to be able to. If it were only his Metagene, then he shouldn't have green skin or be able to change into freakin' aliens and shit as well as earth animals. The evidence thus supports a combination of the two notions. A metagene enhanced by Martian blood, or Martian blood tempered by and centered upon a metagene. Least amount of assumptions, explaining the most amount of details. Parsimony, which is what Occam's Razor calls for.
***** I remember something that might not be valid in this example, as it comes from an old New Teen Titans comic, where he were referred to as "Changeling" instead. In that comic, he once became so fuelled by anger and hate, so that he even were able to assume forms of what at the time was assumed to be non-existing fantasy monsters. If the example is valid, I think it is a point in favour of the martian blood and that his own blood blocks the ability of assuming the forms of other humans somehow. However, I really don't know much about the character, so ... just my 2 cents, or barely one.
I would say that the example isn't valid, simply because it's a different medium with a different Meta-Origin in place than in the "Young Justice" TV show. But, that said, seeing as Young Justice could potentially hopefully maybe get a third season and possibly somewhat somehow expand on Beast Boy's powers, there's nothing really wrong with using a cross-canon example as evidence.
when ever i questioned why he didn't turn into more things/creatures. i always assumed he just didn't want to. kinda like how batman doesn't want to kill or superman chooses to be good.
For fact his origin ID name used to be "Changeling". So that makes me think that one who created him was planning to gave him the ability of clay or slime or rubber......etc that made him turns into anything so he would become a sidekick of Rita Dayton/ Elasti-Girl as he could stretch like her. But since DC was already have that idea with Plastic Man, so DC changed the idea into Beast Boy with another developer but they thinked for someone similar to Plastic Man but a villain and female, so they made Madame Rouge and became a main enemy for Beast Boy and Elasti Girl.
I think he got the gene from Ms Martian, but the human brain isn't enabled to do the varied things that a Martian brain can do. So physically he has the ability to morph, but still has human limitations. So he is limited to genetic species found on Earth because of limits to its imagination and possibly training.
well miss martian is actually a white martian, not green, but uses her shapeshifting to look green because martians are racist against white martians - they're second class citizens, so the colour change doesn't actually make sense to come from her, though you have made me think I might research this and make a video on why he's green :)
He is green because he never eat his vetchtables even though he mother told him over and over to do so. Now he is cursed to walk the earth as the same color as broccoli
The third one does make sense it also relates to how he got his powers in the comics. In all his various origins Beast Boy had either gone through a tragic accident or was experimented on which allowed his powers to become active.
yeah it links to the old comics and the new 52 reboot origin, plus the whole second season of Young Justice was about metagenes so i think its the most likely
There is only one flaw with the third theory, but it is more a fault of the character concept. This is supposed to be a super power or possibly alien biology based super power, so the "animals only" still doesn't make sense. At least in other versions (not sure about the Young Justice iteration), Beast Boy can change into prehistoric as well as alien animals. He covers such a broad form of life, it makes little sense that he can't shift into at least all forms of remotely similar (carbon-based?) life. Besides it just being a mental hang-up, I can think of one other reason for this restriction; a safety measure. A common enough storyline for shapeshifters is their struggle not to lose themselves among the various forms (and often identities) they assume. So if Beast Boy can't become anything remotely human save for his base form, then this isn't as much of a problem for him. Kind of like how supposedly there are self-imposed limits to how much of our muscle strength a human can access, so we don't hurt ourselves in stupid ways like snapping our own bones through overexerting our muscles.
It is possible his metagene was just weak upuntill the point When Mrs M gave her blood to him and due to him having a mother who works with animals might of activated when the bloodtransplant worked
@@christianrapper parademons are just cyborged sentient beings. Like Cyborg. Darkseid takes a dominant species and turns them into his half alien tech minion - according to the Justice League War movie
Oh this is so obvious, Beast Boy does have the ability to turn into any animal including humans (YES HUMANS ARE ANIMALS) but since he uses his powers when he needs specific abilities such as when he needs to fly hence he becomes a bird, the idea of becoming someone else only becomes useful when you can impersonate that individual, you can't really do that if you are a green version of that person. (WHICH REMEMBER IS THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH HIS POWERS, THAT WHATEVER HE TURNS INTO IS GREEN!)
Andy remember one thing, Meghan isn't Green nor is she a Green Martian. She's actually a White Martian, so there's no direct reason based on the blood he got from her for him to be green. Remember she had transformed her blood to match what he needed so that blood would be no different from his own. I believe as it was stated in the video that he was already a Metahuman and that somehow the transfusion turned on his powers, but I want to make this clear... HE DID NOT GET ANY POWERS FROM MISS MARTIAN!!!
exactly right, this is even confirmed in recent comics when he's talking to a fellow Teen Titan about getting into a bar underage - he could shapeshift into a middle-aged man, but he'd still be green so it wouldn't work as a disguise.
I think they may only be able to shape shift into things they can get into the mental state of. And since Gar is more naturally in tune with animals and animal knowledge they are what he can flawlessly turn into. While MM has telepathy which lets her really perceive things differently on a mental level allowing her to shape shift into anything
I liked how Beast boy turn into alien animals/demons in the Teen Titans vs Justice League movie, but of course he didnt know what was going to happen and had a spasm.
This was an interesting video! The theories behind the Beast Boy's powers sounded plausible and pretty cool. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. ^_^
combo platter... still young... still growing... and most familiar with animals... superman didn't start with flying.. grew into that... BB also doesn't push himself so maybe never tried.. (no mentor or teacher or experience to unlock and push to next level of development.)
One of my fave beast boy facts from old comics is that he can turn into people but doesn't see the point. As they would green. So in theory he could turn into a tammaranian. Imagine beast boy realising he can turn into a kryptonian. They are a species, after all.
Wait a minute. Everyone's asking how can he turn into animals only. My question is how is his skin green. Megan Is WHITE MARTIAN! SHAPE SHIFTING TO GREEN!!! HER MAKEUP IS STILL WHITE EVEN WHEN SHE DIDN'T MEAN TO TURN HIM GREEN!
Genetic scrambling; think of Beast Boy being like Miss Martian's son. While White Martians can occur, they are rarer than the green Martians and can still produce completely viable green Martian offspring. It's pure chance that they are born white and, given enough time and children, a white pair will produce another white offspring. The same will happen with a green and white pair of Martians, though will be less likely with a pair of whites.
None of Your Buisness I doubt that. seeing how the Green Martians were peaceful while the white were violent exterminators and conquers. Its like kim jong un and his people.
None of Your Buisness Like another race of people can't give birth to a different race without one of them being of the same race. Like the mom was black and the dad was white. white or black.
Hi great video but the sound of your speaking is softer than the sound of the clips. It's a bit frustrating that I need to turn the audio up to hear you correctly and then the clips are to loud. Do you mind normalizing the audio levels next video's? Again this isn't a hate comment I loved this video! It's just a tip from a nobody
I'll do my best to improve it, I probably messed up the audio levels, I'm still getting the hang of mixing them and I don't see it as hate mail, it's useful feedback that helps me make better vids :)
Well he defiantly has a meta gene because why was the reach experimenting with him in season 2? As well as the Goode goggles tried brainwashing him which they only do if the user tests positive for meta genes
In the comics, he can transform into other beings, albeit only in green. But because he's an expert in animals, feels more confortable in those forms. In the 90s, when known as Changeling, he could only transform into monsters. When his powers return to their original purpose, then he changed his name back to Beast Boy.
Note: I haven't watch the whole video yet My theory is it has something to do with the animal farm. Since he was hurt in the barn, maybe animal DNA got into his blood or something like that, or when Miss Martian transferred the blood she had animal DNA or something. The animal DNA mixed with the Martian blood with shape shifting stuff and it allowed Garfield to shape shift but only in animals. This is just my theory and I literally know nothing about beast boy and miss Martian, other then them from young justice so my theory is probably very flawed
How about this Theory... HE JUST CHOOSES TO TRANSFORM INTO ANIMALS AS HIS SHTICK. He's a kid and he's finally a hero and he picked a theme and stuck with it. End of story.
@@radiatedsheep lol what I meant wasn not liking young justice cause that makes nonsense since yes it's a fact that in reality he came 1st it just in the Earth that young justice takes place in she came 1st. For example some shows Robin came 1st and in some Batgirl came 1st
@@xtrlsidma kinda hard to understand what your saying is English not your first language? Ah and ik all about the timelines just don't care because I was talking about something completely different. And you are just bringing up all this other nerdy shit
@@radiatedsheep no what I bring up is contradicting what you said by the fact just because he was thought up 1st decades ago doesnt mean he always needs to be introduced first. It just in this universe she came before he came
Maybe it's because he's human which caused his body to rejected a majority of her Martian DNA but due to the Martians regenerative properties it still transferred enough blood to keep him alive but limited the Martian powers he received
He can only turn in to animals because that was the original power he got from his fathers project, in the original story of beast boy his mom and dad lived with him and when he was gonna die his dad gave him the project to save his life , they changed the original story of how he got the power but they can’t change on what his powers are
What he does is that since he believes they're basically animals he shape shifts into them, also he's only a part of the *tea* titans because of his shape shifting ability.
Actually I prefer an explanation that involves existing DC meta lore regarding this particular origin idea. Quite some time ago the comics established that there is this "morphogenetic grid" spanning across living organisms on earth. Best rendition of this is seen in Morrison's Animal Man run. Animal Man is sort of like the other side of Beast Boy's coin; I encourage anyone nerdy enough to read my comment to go look him up, you'll love him. Now, when the blood was shape-shifted and transfused it obviously still had to retain, shall we say, an "essential element" that defines its shape shifting potential. This element was, however, divorced from whatever other "essential element(s)" might define the parameters of a Martian's shape-shifting abilities. To simplify, "shape shifting" as a concept was literally in her blood, and when it hooked up with a Human's genetic situation, it naturally brought out the paradigm of Earth's morphogenetic grid. I don't know if the writers had any of these sorts of details in mind when developing this origin, though. If through some odd synchronicity this comment should ever make its way to anyone at DC, please feel comfortable using my ideas without permission or compensation, just as I have used one of Mr. Morrison's ideas here in my own writing for this excessively nerdy thought experiment. No, really, please, I'm begging you, validate me comic book senpai. D;
He should be able to shapeshift into different humans since humans are technically animals, therefore the reason he should be able to, but because he thought he could only turn into animals apart from humans, he doesn't, that's why he doesn't. There's also a TTG episode where Beast Boy turns into a man and comments "I didn't even know I could do that" and also the moment beast boy see's a similar area as where his mother was and shape shifts to what he looked like when he was 8 but instead he was green in Young Justice, the reason for that shape shift was because in his head he thought it was the same moment so he thought he was still a normal human, therefore he shape shifts to his old look but with green skin and hair.
manny d I HATE when people say "she/he is invisible or can just go invisible and do whatever" I'm like NO! they're not invisible and they can get caught
My theory is that the martians have a more developed body in contrast a humans body is primitive and weak therefore beast boy was only able to possess the shape shifting power as it was the least complex and easy for a human body to cope up with
In the comics, beast boys parents are animal biologist or something like that, and they took a bunch of different genes and traits from all of the animals, that they had done researcher on and injected beast boy with that and that’s how he got his powers.
Wish people would stop trying to figure this stuff out. it doesn't make sense and it never will, they keep changing writers and rewriting stuff. "can only transform into animals", humans are animals. apparently he can transform into a ton of different things based on who the writer was or the story line it was in. it doesn't matter "why" just go with the flow and enjoy.
I think it's the third theory with a bit of psychology. A person's metagene powers often manifest as something connected to their lives- like how Tai Longshadow's powers reflect his Mative American heritage. Growing up in an animal sanctuary, Garth would've probably gotten the animal shape shifting powers anyway. Since it was Marian blood that was the catalyst, and Garth thinks that's where the powers come from, the green skin manifested as part of the metagene mutation.
It’s probably a combination of the Martian Blood transfusion interacting with a metagene. The martian DNA imitating the DNA carrying the pre-existing Metagene caused him to develop shapeshifting powers in the same way Static was electrocuted to force him to develop Lightning based powers.
My theory is it is a metagene as stated in the show when the reach are explaining their experiments on beast boy and impulse. The metagene reacted with both the Martian blood which was only using the shape-shifting ability at the time and combined with a vast array of animal DNA present around him do to his exposure to different types of animals in the sanctuary where he lived the result is the shape-shifting ability into animals which share many common ancestors.
Here is one. He taps into the planets bio-sphere. It is how he does any animal of earth or the local wildlife when he jumped planets. How he became empowered, Ms M's blood triggered his gift.
I know this one is based on the young justice version of beast boy. But i hope you guys know beast boys original origin story is when he got bit by a mutant monkey thing. I forgot exactly what kind of monkey it was but it was a regular monkey that got experimented on and it hit him mad gave him the powers to shape shift into any animal
I like your third theory. Perhaps we will find out a bit more about this dilemma in _season three._ (*YES!!!* After tonne of begging and groveling and binge watching, we are going to some resolution to S02 plots!)
Here is how I see it. Garfield's meta gene would have given him other abilities if Megan hadn't given him the blood transfusion and if he wasn't covered in animal DNA when his accident occurred. The trauma of his accident acted as the primer while the elements in his environment, the martian "shape-shifted" blood and the animal DNA that he was likely in contact with when the barn he was near exploded, combined with his Meta Gene to create his unique animal based shape-shifting. This "assimilation of elements present during the Meta Gene activation" isn't unheard of in the world of Young Justice. Just look at Virgil and Eduardo Dorodo, Jr. Virgil gained his electromagnetic abilities after continuous exposure to high voltage electricity. Meanwhile Eduardo's father worked with Zeta energy teleportation for many years before his Meta Gene was activated. The minute amount of Zeta particles he was exposed to were likely absorbed by his body and later integrated into powers by his Gene activation. That's my theory on this idea.
My take... Miss Martian had to alter her blood to be compatible, meaning she was repressing as many of the Martian characteristics in it as possible. This would prevent the transferred blood from containing the psionic abilities, flight, phasing, etc. However, the blood retained the shape shifting ability because that ability was being actively used to make it compatible. The shapeshifting ability transferred, as well as the green pigmentation, but in a watered down version, so Garth could only shift to a limited extent. That limit, anything within the same evolutionary kingdom, Kingdom Animalia, as himself due to preexisting genetic relationship with those organisms. While he is also genetically related to plant life, as we all are, they are simply to distant of a relationship for his abilities to reach
YJ Beast Boy was voiced by Logan Grove who voiced Gumball in Seasons 1 and 2 of The Amazing World of Gumball. You can hear it in his voice. He sounds like a deeper Gumball
The actual reason is more pedantic. The Beast Boy of Young Justice is based off the character from the comics. Garfield Logan's original origin was connected to The Doom Patrol, which is a group that's largely overlooked in modern iterations of the DC universe. It's much easier to connect a newly introduced reboot of Garfield Logan into modern retcons of DC history by removing The Doom Patrol entirely. Miss Martian didn't used to have anything to do with Garfield Logan's backstory, but she's a big part of Young Justice. To introduce GL into YJ, it made sense to use MM, since she's green too, and has shape shifting abilities. Logan only shape shifts cuz he's always only shape shifted. Giving him all of Miss Martian's powers would have made Logan something other than Beast Boy, which defeats the whole purpose of reimagining him for this new variant of stories.
I like to think for this version is because his entire childhood he grew up with animals around animals and would start mimicking them on his time and probably didn’t have a lot of friends his age around so the animals were like friends to him so maybe more of a psychological impact
The meta gene in the DC universe has a precedence of adapting to the type of trauma. For example static shock got electrocuted so he took on the ability to use electricity. Functionally a state of least resistance. For beast boy his meta gene was activated with exposure to transformation durring his trauma. The gene itself didn't predetermin his shape shifting but it was able to take it on. In the marvel universe the x gene is a lot more erratic and innate where the DC meta gene is undetermined until the moment of trauma
I agree with the third option but consider what the Reach were doing to activate the Meta gene. I think that the atac was the triger for stress, that he would have been able to morph anyway and just got the colour from Miss Martian. That's all.
I think that the 3rd 1 makes the most sense because as you said that even if he did inherit only the shapeshifting abilities he should've been able to turn into basically anything he wanted to and I'll add more to this. If the shapeshifting abilities came from MM then his skin should've been white not green because of the fact that MM.
Beast boy turned into a bean bag so raven could sit on his face. just let that sink in.

this is why I love TTG
MrBlizzetta lol
She also put her lips all over his "rim" when he was a cup.
MrBlizzetta That crap ain’t funny
did no one ever theorize that the reason he can only turn into animals is because his human physiology wont allow for the shape shifting into objects and the like, because if he did he wouldn't have a brain and therefor would die, martians entire body works as a brain, allowing them to retain their knowledge and to be able to think and act even after becoming a inanimate object like a cup or something, whilst we humans need a brain to send signals threw out our body to do any thing at all, this is why he can only turn into animals, cause animals have brains, its also why in some of the animated movies and such when he turns into aliens or demons from the dimension trigon is from, he has difficulty controlling it and is in a lot of pain, because they may have a completely different type of brain then what exists on earth and so it takes him some time, for his body to figure it all out and such, and as for other super humans in the dc universe who are human but can shape shift into inanimate object, they may have a very different physical make up then that of ordinary humans, like what beast boy was before being injected with martian blood, in other words the blood works by re-configuring his form, but can only do so, so long as he has a brain capable of sending it signals to do so, because at his core he is still very much so a normal human, and its the blood that does all the work based on signals from his brain, this is also why he has no other abilities that martians have, his skin becoming green is merely a side effect of his blood preparing his body to be able to handle the reconfiguration of shape shifting

But Ms.Martin said her blood only occurs on the CELLULAR LEVEL so beast boy shouldn't be able to turn into anything other than organic life forms with a similar cell structures like animals and not plants .
What about bananas, he should be able to turn into them
Well I don’t think gar tried turning into a banana before...

Animals from other planets wouldn’t be animals as they wouldn’t be genetically related
It would make more sense if he could turn into any living thing from earth or at least part of the next closest kingdom fungi
@@angelomassaro4487 also plants don't have brains so if he turned into a plant he would have essentially committed suicide

Am i the only one that noticed there was a speedster in the room? He could've just went to her clinic real quick to get the O- blood.
Jerry Mak shhhhhh lol
I was thinking the same! Between all those Titans in that room they could have EASILY figured out a way to keep Gar alive with out needing an alien blood transfusion
They said kf wasn't fast enough to reach to and from the clinic
Kid flash is pretty slow for a speedster
In that episode the closest medical institution/hospital is too far that even Kid Flash wouldn't make it back in time for the transfusion.
Seems to be a fashion statements for shape-changers.
Why did my comment disappear? Did someone mark it as spam?
Beast boy could in theory be the most op character turn into a fly, get in someone’s ear and then turn into a whale
Basically Ant-Man.
He actually did that in season 4 finale of the original Teen Titans. The only problem is that it was Trigon, who couldn't be taken down so easily. Still got a pretty hilarious reaction out of him xD
OverKillFTW but waAaay better cuz DC>Marvel
Readers always know how to use the powers better than the heroes themselves
Beast Boy was originally human. The Martian blood transfusion might have given him those powers, but they might have been hard to control because of that (Alternatively, the powers might have been diluted because Miss Martian now had human blood). Beast Boy lived at an animal sanctuary, so he probably knew how animals worked better than anything. My theory is that it's completely possible for BB to do all the things Martians can do, but he only knows how to turn into animals.
@Lil Heinz94 a cellular level*
@Lil Heinz94 You all have forgotten that blood cells dies, it's more logical to sustain the theory of metagenes being activated after the transfusion than this other theories that implies in this "same blood running in his and hers veins"
I was going to suggest that the reason he can't transform into anything other than Earth animals is because he probably has to share some sort of common ancestor with an animal to transform into it and if you believe in evolution all animal life today evolved from microorganisms in the ocean millions of years ago so that would explain why he's only able to transform into Earth animals as opposed to some sort of alien life form which probably shares is 0 DNA with him
@@jaredflynn3750 ngl that makes sense
@@jaredflynn3750 but he can transforn into demons.
+Jonathan Reyes that and the fact that turning intp a plant or inanimate object would kill tom sonda his body changes to be that form completely ex; a fork....forks dont have brains hearts or are living...and if he becomes a plant he stays a plant...no brain..no memory no nothing.....huh kinda like the BB of TTG...uggh so many wasted dollars...oh the nightmares.
the problem with that jean is... comics... people do nonsensical thing in comics
And the more he understands the animal the easier it would be for him to shift into it as well.
Agreed
That reminds me of the old "Teen Titans" cartoon, when he visited Tamaran and shifted into one of the animals from that planet. One of the team comments that they didn't know he could turn into alien animals, and he remarks that he didn't know either. It's all on belief systems.
The metagene theory doesn't ring true to me, since he had the physical change in his appearance. If her blood didn't affect his body, it's a strange coincidence that he turned the same color as she is.
+Dog Flamingo you're right.
Well the same thing kinda came from Xmen with Beast gaining his blue skin/hair color from Mystique's genes. But they're separate universes
I just watched justice league vs teen titans and when they went to trigons realm he started to turn into the hellish animals

That would be cool
Since beast boy can turn into any animal does that mean he can live longer and age slower?
Well here is the good part:
he's at least once been able to turn into a fully sentient alien species, aka Technically he could transform into a Kryptonian, and be a green Superman.

"So your points in this video assume that Beast Boy in Young Justice follows the same rules as comic book Beast Boy when the evidence suggests otherwise."
When does he say that? In the first 10 seconds of the video he explicitly states that there are many versions of Beast Boy. And that he was only basing his video/theories off of Young Justice's Beast Boy. I don't remember him acting as if Young Justice's Beast Boy's rules carry over to the comic's Beast Boy.
I was referring to the assumption that Beast Boy can only turn in to animals because of some factor inherent to his powers as opposed to my conclusion that it is a personal choice on Garfield's part.
TheMangakid1995
I'm still confused about how you came to the conclusion that his theories assume that BB's powers follow the came rules as the comic.
I see it as people trying to tie some imagined power limitation to his admittedly poor emotional mental state
The 3rd theory clearly suggest that Garfield's powers function the way they do in comics just with out directly naming the Red as the source of his catalog of forms and again I make the point that the solution is more likely much simpler then that based on the shows track record.
Chill bro, its fiction not real
What happens when he shape shifts is that his body's properties either becomes larger or smaller depending on the animal which allows him to function like it.
One word, *Shapeshifting*
What about very fast cell division?
I'm going with Occam's razor with this one. The simplest explanation is beast boy had the gene for it.
I don't agree that that is the simplest explanation.
i'm feeling the meta gene is the simplest
(ninja'd due to accidental early-posting)
So, assuming solely that his powers come from the Metagene, Beast Boy surviving the encounter allowed his metagene to center around the animals that he grew up with and raised and cared for.
-----
Neither of these, however, fully accounts for it all.

I remember something that might not be valid in this example, as it comes from an old New Teen Titans comic, where he were referred to as "Changeling" instead.
I agree
But he can turn into a Trex and an alien......
im sure someone asked this before. but if he didnt get his powers from miss martian why is he green? or do you think that was the bloods only effect?
well miss martian is actually a white martian, not green, but uses her shapeshifting to look green because martians are racist against white martians - they're second class citizens, so the colour change doesn't actually make sense to come from her, though you have made me think I might research this and make a video on why he's green :)
well that does link to his origins in the comic, i think I will make a vid to go into detail on this cos there's a lot to be talked about
+NeedleMouse Productions Do you know there was nothing as a white or green martian before.
He is green because he never eat his vetchtables even though he mother told him over and over to do so. Now he is cursed to walk the earth as the same color as broccoli
+Butt Sounds like an episode of TTG
The third one does make sense it also relates to how he got his powers in the comics. In all his various origins Beast Boy had either gone through a tragic accident or was experimented on which allowed his powers to become active.
yeah it links to the old comics and the new 52 reboot origin, plus the whole second season of Young Justice was about metagenes so i think its the most likely
A part of me thinks season 3 would have tried adapting the our world's at war story arc.
don't know much about the comics, but I think the third one actually makes more sense based on the information given in YJ.
You should do a fallow up on this video because I think season 3 episode 11 confirms the 3rd theory
he did once shapeshift into a para-demon
Which is like turning into an animal
He still can he can change into any demon he wants
@@christianrapper parademons are just cyborged sentient beings. Like Cyborg. Darkseid takes a dominant species and turns them into his half alien tech minion - according to the Justice League War movie
DuaneB that was in teen titans movie, he said he is only doing young justice
Tamamarian demon
Oh this is so obvious, Beast Boy does have the ability to turn into any animal including humans (YES HUMANS ARE ANIMALS) but since he uses his powers when he needs specific abilities such as when he needs to fly hence he becomes a bird, the idea of becoming someone else only becomes useful when you can impersonate that individual, you can't really do that if you are a green version of that person. (WHICH REMEMBER IS THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH HIS POWERS, THAT WHATEVER HE TURNS INTO IS GREEN!)
i was just bout to type this
But if he has Meghan's blood he can change his skin color. Meghan has been able to change her skin color when shape shifting to another person.
HE DID NOT GET ANY POWERS FROM MISS MARTIAN!!!
i was going to watch the video but then I read this..so i was like well then.. lol thanks.
exactly right, this is even confirmed in recent comics when he's talking to a fellow Teen Titan about getting into a bar underage - he could shapeshift into a middle-aged man, but he'd still be green so it wouldn't work as a disguise.
because it is a cool power and DC has enough over powered heros

I think they may only be able to shape shift into things they can get into the mental state of. And since Gar is more naturally in tune with animals and animal knowledge they are what he can flawlessly turn into. While MM has telepathy which lets her really perceive things differently on a mental level allowing her to shape shift into anything
I’ll give you the most simple version of the answer, BECAUSE THATS HIS WHOLE CHARACTER!!!!!!
(no mentor or teacher or experience to unlock and push to next level of development.)
maybe
You should see beast boy travel to trigons home. He can turn into the demonic animals in that place too.
to add to that I think it's subconscious. when he had a traumatizing flash back of his mom his appearance reverted to a more normal human look.
w0nd100 that may be true
This ^
100% what i thought happened when we first see him in young justice and his powers were given by the blood transfusion
He has a great love for animals so naturally he assumes their form
Something like that. Basically, Beast Boy had a 50/50 chance of being white, but the green Martians are more common.
+None of Your “Deuce” Buisness Ehhhhhhhhhhh..........
Best comment on TH-cam
Well he defiantly has a meta gene because why was the reach experimenting with him in season 2?
As well as the Goode goggles tried brainwashing him which they only do if the user tests positive for meta genes
In the comics, he can transform into other beings, albeit only in green. But because he's an expert in animals, feels more confortable in those forms. In the 90s, when known as Changeling, he could only transform into monsters. When his powers return to their original purpose, then he changed his name back to Beast Boy.
Note: I haven't watch the whole video yet
My theory is it has something to do with the animal farm.
You've got a lot of anger there

Maybe it's because he's human which caused his body to rejected a majority of her Martian DNA but due to the Martians regenerative properties it still transferred enough blood to keep him alive but limited the Martian powers he received
He can only turn in to animals because that was the original power he got from his fathers project, in the original story of beast boy his mom and dad lived with him and when he was gonna die his dad gave him the project to save his life , they changed the original story of how he got the power but they can’t change on what his powers are
It could be because he was near an animal farm during his injury
I wouldn't suggest it was because of his surroundings, just that it's what he believes.
There's a scene where beast boy go to hell with the tea titans and inside hell or because of hell energy he could transform into Demon like figures
What he does is that since he believes they're basically animals he shape shifts into them, also he's only a part of the *tea* titans because of his shape shifting ability.
YouCube26 The OK Cuber Well he shapeshifts to demons he’s never seen and couldn’t possibly know off and still transformed to them
Pietro Mascagni I’m dyign
The tea titans will be great at call of duty
Well according to Outsiders its because he was chosen by the monkey god which is why he could only turned into animal.
Was really hoping he would say disappear and fly at 1:38
Actually I prefer an explanation that involves existing DC meta lore regarding this particular origin idea.
Quite some time ago the comics established that there is this "morphogenetic grid" spanning across living organisms on earth. Best rendition of this is seen in Morrison's Animal Man run. Animal Man is sort of like the other side of Beast Boy's coin; I encourage anyone nerdy enough to read my comment to go look him up, you'll love him.
Now, when the blood was shape-shifted and transfused it obviously still had to retain, shall we say, an "essential element" that defines its shape shifting potential. This element was, however, divorced from whatever other "essential element(s)" might define the parameters of a Martian's shape-shifting abilities.
To simplify, "shape shifting" as a concept was literally in her blood, and when it hooked up with a Human's genetic situation, it naturally brought out the paradigm of Earth's morphogenetic grid. I don't know if the writers had any of these sorts of details in mind when developing this origin, though.
If through some odd synchronicity this comment should ever make its way to anyone at DC, please feel comfortable using my ideas without permission or compensation, just as I have used one of Mr. Morrison's ideas here in my own writing for this excessively nerdy thought experiment. No, really, please, I'm begging you, validate me comic book senpai. D;
The bad writing theory
...
His power is to turn into animals that is why that’s all he can turn into
Sure, but why is that specifically the power he got?
Well it's already explained in season 3
This video is 3 years old....
I like the idea that the partial Martian talepathy allowed him to subconsciously connect to The Red and gain his animal forms.
Martians don't really turn invisible, more camouflage and yes there's a big difference
manny d I HATE when people say "she/he is invisible or can just go invisible and do whatever" I'm like NO! they're not invisible and they can get caught
They do turn invisible though.. They can't be seen by the human eye or cameras so they are invisible. Invisible = can't be seen...
My theory is that the martians have a more developed body in contrast a humans body is primitive and weak therefore beast boy was only able to possess the shape shifting power as it was the least complex and easy for a human body to cope up with
You should re-do this
In the comics, beast boys parents are animal biologist or something like that, and they took a bunch of different genes and traits from all of the animals, that they had done researcher on and injected beast boy with that and that’s how he got his powers.
Sooo no one noticed how when he reminisced over his mothers crash he shape shifted into his true form?
can u do one about reptil in marvel
do you mean a vid about why reptil can only change into dinosaurs?
+NeedleMouse Productions yea
+NeedleMouse Productions Oh...you talk in your videos now hhmmm.....
I think the most logical conclusion is that Miss Martin's blood and the fact that Garfield was dying served as the catalyst to actived his meta-gene.
Welp, it was revealed that he turn into animals because of a magical monkey god.
I really like the dormant meta gene theory. Damn i'm so psyched for season 3!
No beast boy didn't get his powers like that. He got them from his parents to save his life.
As anyone who knows about Beast Boy from the comics knows it was a serum his dad gave hi, to fight off a rare decease.
I like your third theory. Perhaps we will find out a bit more about this dilemma in _season three._ (*YES!!!* After tonne of begging and groveling and binge watching, we are going to some resolution to S02 plots!)
I love Miss Martian being a big sister for Gar, it’s really sweet for both of them.
Walking through walls is referred to as density shifting and she can change her density to be less or more dense
Beast Boy can turn straight up into an animal
Animal (Animal?)
Yes, any animal
(Boom! Pow!)
Yep, he's a kitty now
(Ohh!)
Check out this kitty meow
I do not know, i never watched it and i do not know why am i watching this either...
I've always gone with the psychological explanation. It makes the most sense.
I like the third theory. It seems the most plausible and is a good blanket way of giving people powers.
One day beast boy will meet with lobo in animated form and the amazing scenes from the comics will be even more amazing
Ohhh. Can’t wait to use this knowledge one day
In this continuity, the 3rd theory makes the most sense. But the 2nd where its psychological trauma would be quite a good story
