    I simply could not have asked for a better walk through and explanation on how to do this. Mr Williams I thank you for your lessons and the way you explained and demonstrated every step. I'd never been able to do this without your videos. Nobody else explained this the way you did. Again I thank you. You saved me a couple thousand dollars.

    There need to be more people like this in the world. Thank you Mr. Williams for your knowledge, as others have stated, this is amazing for those who want to learn. I have always feared working on these types of components. Everyone always talks about how futile it is to try to repair automatic transmissions. Of course I always believed that not to be true, that it was possible, given the right knowledge, and determination. I always wondered what black magic was going on in that bizarre aluminum housing, and alas, I have found Mr. Jimmy Williams, the Bob Ross of transmission repair. (insert heavenly chorus) you will go down in internet history for sharing your epic knowledge with the world kind sir!

    I figured it out. I installed a thinner plastic pump washer to adjust end play. The diode clicking went away after you turn the shaft a few times. Just finished installing it today. Shifts great. Thanks for the videos.

    220 inch pounds = 18.3 book says 18 lbs. of torque on pump bolts. Its better just to rent 1nch pound torque wrench. Mr. Williams can put snap rings with those work gloves. As a hill Billy with tight fitting gloves. I have a good chance of a successful rebuild. Nobody could describe this rebuild any better. Any More descriptive details they just be repeating them selves or adding nonrelevant material.👍

    I have assembled the case and the pump is in. The front shaft turns but I hear a mechanical diode clicking when I turn the front and rear shaft. There is also no end play in the front shaft. I installed 7 new thrust bearings. Could I have mixed them up? The intermediate clutches and plates are assembled like yours. Just below the edge. I have Not installed the reverse servo yet. Just the overdrive servo. Guess I will be tearing it down tomorrow.

    Great detailed video series... I am however wondering why the intermediate clutch was just thrown together with no specs. Every other clutch youve been clear and accurate with as far as clearance goes... The ending steel should be a selective steel to meet specific tolerances....

    Question.
    I rebuild a 4r75e, and it will go on 1st, 2nd maybe 3rd but on 3 or 4rd will feel like reverse is engaged it will slowed down. 30 miles per hr or less. Reverse is also good.new or rebuild valve body.it dose the same with mine which I rebuild.
    Any Idea what it can be before I take it down?
    Is not my first one. And this one is my own. Thank you.

    when you stated that the inner shaft should spin freely at the end of assembly does that mean the shaft should spin with light twist motion or slightly heavy twist motion? In my situation the inner shaft does spin freely clockwise and counterclockwise i have to use more strength almost not possible with one hand

  • @bradkerwin4286
    @bradkerwin4286 ปีที่แล้ว

    If your concerned with the direction the input shaft should spin (mine rotated clockwise) watch the video closely he doesn’t actually turn the input shaft. He flex’s his hand but it was for demonstration. If you go back through and watch you’ll see his input shaft rotates clockwise. No need to tear apart everything you just done to a tee! It will spin counter clockwise but his really tough. Hope this comment saves you 2 hrs of internet research where “nobody knows “

  • @richardcoogan2520
    @richardcoogan2520 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    now, when you get to the end and say the input shaft should spin. it spins counter clockwise but you have to really grip it tight. but free wheels clockwise is this the correct way it should be?

    • @anterpants
      @anterpants 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sure would be nice to know the answer to this. Did you get it figured out? Mine spins clockwise but not counter just like yours. It also makes the mechanical diode click. Really frustrating, and this could have been checked before the pump, he shows it spinning counter clockwise.

    • @atg6875
      @atg6875 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's about where I'm at too. I can only turn it clockwise, and I can hear the mechanical diode ticking. Guess it's coming back apart.

    • @atg6875
      @atg6875 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +anterpants I laid the trans over and spun the output shaft one rotation and it freed up the input shaft. Must of had some tight tolerances or something.

    • @anterpants
      @anterpants 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I pulled the pump again and grabbed it with a glove and could turn counter clockwise but it wasn't super easy. Put it back together and confirmed again I could turn, but still not easy.

    • @anterpants
      @anterpants 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So I was at the scrap yard to day and there was a 4R70W sitting on the ground, turning the shaft to the left was easier but not by much. Also turning right didn't click, so it must have been a roller clutch instead of mechanical diode.

    my 2004 4r70w has a different pump piston and it has an extra large wavy spring and another sort of L-shaped ring, should I just lay them on top of the intermediate clutch pack and lay the pump on top of it? And does the wavy spring go first or the L-shaped ring? Thank you

    I followed all your videos to the t., but I fell on my face at the end of this video. My input shaft locks after as start to torque the bolts pump bolts down. I tore it back down and tried both new and old bearings. I also tried removing the intermediate stack up (steels/frictions & thick end plate). I've replace bushings too. I went back and polished all services with sand paper--I have a perfect surface after words, with no binding. It does engaged on all the frictions/steels. I verified looking through the valve body. I've had it apart 5 times now and can put it together with no video assistance at this point. Problem still remains. Thinking about taking this in on Monday as I'm at my wits end with this 2001 4R70W 4x4.

      If others are running into the same issue I had, then also consider the thrust washer being the cause.It was in my case. I narrowed it down after taking the transmission apart, probably 10 times. Take a look here to determine how-to get the correct washer. www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/4r70w-rebuild-diary-part-14-end-case-pump-clearance-selecting-the-right-selective.160708/
