In case your at an interview and they want you tell them a joke, here's one to keep in your back pocket. "I’m normally not one to brag about my financial skills But my credit card company calls me almost everyday to inform me my balance is outstanding!"
A young Goldman Sachs executive decided to get his first tailor made suit. So he went to the finest tailor in town and got measured for a suit. A week later he went in for his first fitting. He put on the suit and he looked stunning, he felt that in this suit he can do business. As he was preening himself in front of the mirror he reached down to put his hands in the pockets and to his surprise he noticed that there were no pockets. He mentioned this to the tailor who asked him, "Didn't you tell me you were a banker?" The young man answered, "Yes, I did." To this the tailor said, "Who ever heard of a banker with his hands in his own pockets?"

Sales and Trading had some of the worst douches when I was in operations. Glad, I managed to move to Risk where even the portfolio managers seem like saints in comparison.
This series has shown me that a lot of the things folks think don’t happen…happen far more often that we would like to believe/be comfortable with. It’s interesting because I think people WANT a lot of the series to just be very dramatized and then find out from people who’ve worked in the industry, or are currently, that it can be even more dramatic than that. My friends who are in banking have really had some experiences that sound like the plot to a film. and it’s wild
"man grew up playing football in the cages" that's when you got the like from me. The excellent thing about Industry is that it highlights how it’s never been a meritocracy; hardly are people in their positions based on merit. I deeply appreciate this technical breakdown and analysis of the show. I’m watching your video as research for my social breakdown and analysis of the show. I’m not in this industry, but as a young Black woman, I’m noticing a lot of AMAZING things that the series is doing with the characterization of Harper and Eric that must be discussed. There’s a historical context there and so many good lines between the two that take this into account that many aren’t discussing. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! Absolutely wonderful!
Is it bad that I squeaked when Hari mis-clicked the wrong font? Reminds me of the time when I almost screwed up and replaced all character combinations "one" to "1" across a pitch deck as a shortcut. Fun fact, there are a lot of words like "telephONE" or "hONEd" which turned into "teleph1" and "h1d" which, while I spotted and corrected the errors in time, was a terrifying experience.
First time seeing your channel and no bullshit I'll be coming back. You tell it like it is without fluff. I even got some pointers I can use at my office. Keep it up.
Incredible review and THANK YOU so much for the background info. I love this show and this really helped my understanding. Hope you keep doing reviews.
I thought the set design was excellent but definitely exaggerated drug use. I’m CIB and know very few people like this! At the end of the day if you live like that, you become a liability for the bank - wayyyy more so than for a font error!
Love the explainer video! It’s easy to watch the episode and get the wrong idea of banking. Yes an explainer video for the next episode would be amazing! If you could do for all the episodes too when they drop 😋
What was interesting for me watching your analysis was that for some of the things you said weren’t happening friends of mine that work at other investments banks experienced those things. And it’s true that it really comes down to company environment and ethics. Like maybe not at Goldman does it happen…but it happens elsewhere. I hope this series motivates more people to speak out about those traumatic and just downright terrible experiences they’re having.
01:56 Actually, I got "Can you tell me a joke?" as a question from my Goldman Sales & Trading interview back in 2015. I had the same thought as you though, I didn't think that was still asked as an interview question, and was something from the 90's. Took a gamble and told a dirty joke I recited from a chainmail I remembered from 4th grade... interviewer burst out laughing.
Once in uni I havent slept for 4 days of course using my brain none stop. On the third or fourth day my body felt weird and I had heavy breathing. I realized I could have just died.
This is an excellent video Afzal. As someone who has no links or connections to the financial world (I'm a social worker) your video was informative. Hope to see more :)
I did an internship in the city and we had a "riff day" (it wasn't called that though) basically it was a presentation to say what we did during our internship and present any work and the impact we had.
Brother could you do a video explains what’s the difference between an investment banking analyst and a financial analyst that works for a Fortune 500 company ?
I knew someone who worked in a church office years ago and one of her responsibilities was to print out the part of the wedding service in which the minister says the blessing over the couple and the congregation responds "We will" when appropriate. Anyway, in this case, the groom in the previous wedding was named Will, and the current groom was "Richard".The usual "edit and replace all" function she used had an unfortunate result and she didn't proofread before printing out the copies and placing them in the wedding programs. So, when the minister asked "Do you (the church) promise to pray for Richard and Sally?" The congregation blinked at the sheets in front of them and said, "We...Richard?" It didn't get her fired but the bride's parents had a fit!
Thank you so much for this reaction video which I found helpful - I don't work in the financial world but the way you break it down brings that world to life - plus I can better follow the next episode :-)
Very interesting series about the daily struggle in IB divisions. Really appreciated your insightful commentary and that you shared your personal experiences. I work in PWM, desperately trying to switch to AM. But to be honest, Work-Life balance is hard to beat in PWM... 😅
Interesting view.. I’m currently in Sales, but want to switch to a more investment focused role (either in PWM or AM). Many of our wealthy UHNWI clients just want to have a trustworthy relationship manager who assures, that their discretionary managed portfolios are well invested. Clients don‘t bother about the performance so much as in AM. And PWM Sales people are generalists, not investment experts, I regularly need to educate our Senior RM‘s about derivatives and other hedging instruments 😂. Whereas Sales people in AM often have a CFA.
Ah fair, I hear you. There's the 'hybrid' option of becoming a client portfolio manager in AM which would be a good first step to consider before going all in on the investment side. Either way, good luck with it! 👍🏽
Ugh - unfortunately, a lot of corporate America is heading in this direction. Just go to Linked In and see how many articles there are about work life balance of people working from home. Non-existent. Now imagine when people had to get dressed up to go to an office and commute! I would stress eat, gain 15 lbs, have heart palpitations, not go to the bathroom for the first time until well into the afternoon - then the division would fold, or the company would merge with another, and I would get laid off. That was God telling me that I didn't belong there. No human really does... that amount of hours isn't normal for a functioning person... Great Breakdown!
Hey afzal great video! may you please make a video on how disadvantaged or advantaged btec students are? and also if they are able to get front office roles
I really enjoyed this breakdown. Watching the drama I wasn't able to pick up all the points as its not my industry but this was insightful and useful! I hope you continue to do more reactions as the series goes on!
I think drug use happens in every industry. It's just what some individuals chose to do. Also, some people need to take some pharmaceutical drugs (such as Adderall) just to be able to be a normal functioning human being in society.
Afzal, this was a joy to watch! Great explanation on the series. I myself work as A BA/Tester nothing related to investment banking but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. More of this type of videos please :)
I really enjoyed your insights on the new HBO series Industry. Although you don't need a degree in financing to enjoy the show, I did get a bit lost with all the swift talk and finance lingo at times. Your explanations were really helpful. Hope you review all the upcoming episodes.
Nothing to do with the city itself, more to do with the way humans treat each other. Some small towns are just as depressing and soulless. Chasing big money does not mean another human without the same ambition is worthless. Many people get this wrong
3:20 my first day on the trading floor as an intern, a senior analyst starting saying to his coworkers without realizing i was in the room "did you see the guy in the blazer[Me]..." and they said "bro he is sitting right behind you" and then the guy said "oh" and got up and left the room lol
This is really great analysis. I'm an outsider when it comes to any of this show's jargon, and the British accents and slang add another layer of complexity. Glad to know the producers have got a good hold on the way a bank would be laid out and function. I figure the party life is the drama aspect, but it does make you wonder what all these people so to blow off steam.
If font family and sizes on presentations are such a big deal, why don't they have tools that enforce that? like a custom powerpoint that has those best practices in them so you can't even messed up?
5:45 you get ranked, you're either a top quartile performer, mid-tier, or bottom quarter. many people get hired and also many people get fired at the same time. 7:05 her MD or the person she reports to. 8:10 as Junior, she needs to research and write report on which stock to buy or not. 9:00 the compliance in the bank can read your emails and your instant message. he's working long hours, then he might be struggling. he might not work as good as we are. 11:40 I've got capacity. competitive complex between. he feels most need to take on most of the work and do lots of face time and always keeping score. to taken to client meeting for greater exposure. 12:40 your work will speak for itself. 15:35 building financial model for valuation 16:25 the culture is eating at the desk. Next result. 19:35 working on presentation - fonts, sizes, and type... 20:45 attention to details and analytical skills are very important. 21:00 best way to do it: catch it before it happens. the worst thing is to hold it and it will come bite you in the backside later. a yard is a billion. half a yard is 500 million. 23:40 Flow 作為一個心理學概念,flow被這樣定義:a state of complete immersion in an activity (一種全身心投入某種活動的精神狀態) get pumped up.

I was asked by a US PE shop 'Tell me a joke'. Was really surprised, as I'm based in Asia and never in a million years would this question come up in the Asian interview context. I didn't crack a joke, coz I think it would be rather awkward to say something not really funny, instead I recommeded a comedy show that I love. First time seeing your channel and no bullshit I'll be coming back. You tell it like it is without fluff. I even got some pointers I can use at my office. Keep it up.
Thanks! I appreciate that 💪🏽👍🏽
Incredible review and THANK YOU so much for the background info. I love this show and this really helped my understanding. Hope you keep doing reviews.
This was such a well put together reaction video, great insight for someone unfamiliar with the industry - definitely looking forward to another one!
Thanks bro. Much appreciated 👊🏽
Crazy thing is this show mirrors finance life almost too accurately 😅
I thought the set design was excellent but definitely exaggerated drug use. I’m CIB and know very few people like this! At the end of the day if you live like that, you become a liability for the bank - wayyyy more so than for a font error!
Stfu. Don’t talk about what you don’t know.
Your reactions were so funny, really enjoyed it. Do a second one mate.
This was absolutely brilliant. Love your insights, Afzal. Really deepened my understanding of the series.

Actually, I got "Can you tell me a joke?" as a question from my Goldman Sales & Trading interview back in 2015. I had the same thought as you though, I didn't think that was still asked as an interview question, and was something from the 90's.
Took a gamble and told a dirty joke I recited from a chainmail I remembered from 4th grade... interviewer burst out laughing.
What was the joke?
Once in uni I havent slept for 4 days of course using my brain none stop. On the third or fourth day my body felt weird and I had heavy breathing. I realized I could have just died.
Seeing your bookshelf in the back, it would be really interesting if you made a video on book advices!
When the state school kid goes “brap” and when all the diversity kids chill together at the pub I LAUGHED 😂😂😂
SEO London movements 😥

Brap?
This is an excellent video Afzal. As someone who has no links or connections to the financial world (I'm a social worker) your video was informative. Hope to see more :)
I did an internship in the city and we had a "riff day" (it wasn't called that though) basically it was a presentation to say what we did during our internship and present any work and the impact we had.
Brother could you do a video explains what’s the difference between an investment banking analyst and a financial analyst that works for a Fortune 500 company ?
I hate finance - but like your vibe and dig ALL knowledge. Subscribed, brother.
You the man! 👊🏽
Your reactions make the scenes funnier than they should be 😂
I was going to watch this show, but holy cow,id rather watch these reviews!!!
This was a really good video I have no interest in investment banking but your video is soo good. Thank you for sharing your thoughts
Now I want to watch the series!! Great video
Thanks for that TV series review. I didn't see that (TV licence renewal issue) but your comments and clicks gave me good insight 💭
Just watched the most the video. Your editing has improved a lot. And great reaction👍🏻
Ah thanks! It took so long lol.. Much appreciated 👊🏽
Editing skills have improved massively
Thank you :)
“Man was in the cages”😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you so much for this reaction video which I found helpful - I don't work in the financial world but the way you break it down brings that world to life - plus I can better follow the next episode :-)
Very interesting series about the daily struggle in IB divisions. Really appreciated your insightful commentary and that you shared your personal experiences. I work in PWM, desperately trying to switch to AM. But to be honest, Work-Life balance is hard to beat in PWM... 😅
Haha, appreciate it. I honestly think w/l balance is better in AM than PWM. Are you in product or sales?
@@AfzalHussein Thanks a lot Afzal, your advice is highly appreciated! 😉
This is valuable advice, Afzal. Just started watching and I'm definitely enjoying it.
As always, top quality videos ! It is nice to see how this channel is growing. Well done.
Thank you. Always appreciated 👍🏽
Hey afzal great video! may you please make a video on how disadvantaged or advantaged btec students are? and also if they are able to get front office roles
Added to the list.
The font scene is giving me a panic attack.
😄
Really enjoyed this. Hope you do more
Definitely would like to see another reaction to this. V insightful. Thanks!
Thanks!
Great video! Please keep more coming!!!
I really enjoyed your insights on the new HBO series Industry. Although you don't need a degree in financing to enjoy the show, I did get a bit lost with all the swift talk and finance lingo at times. Your explanations were really helpful.
Hope you review all the upcoming episodes.
Working in the city seems miserable, depressing and soulless.
Facts
Nothing to do with the city itself, more to do with the way humans treat each other. Some small towns are just as depressing and soulless. Chasing big money does not mean another human without the same ambition is worthless. Many people get this wrong
Its the ppl not the city.
Its grass is always greener regardless of where u are. Speaking from experience lol
im starting to not want to be an investment banker because of how lifeless it looks
really interesting, thanks for explaining!
Loved this reaction vid! Looking forward to more!
Thanks!
3:20 my first day on the trading floor as an intern, a senior analyst starting saying to his coworkers without realizing i was in the room "did you see the guy in the blazer[Me]..." and they said "bro he is sitting right behind you" and then the guy said "oh" and got up and left the room lol
Loved the video ! So many insightful details about what it’s like to work in this industry. Hope you will do others for next episodes 🙏🏻
Very interesting, please go on with these reaction videos!
Just started watching industry! Loving it so far!
I was hoping you were gonna review the options trade she suggested at dinner.
Yes, please add video coverage to the remaining episodes.
Thats actually a great idea
I love the quality of your video and please continue this series I will watch every one of it
The same in fashion , it’s never just dinner or just a party-everything is business really

this was very pleasant to watch, you seem very reflected and honest about everything, i like your chill attitude!
i watched the show not understanding half (i mean about the job) HAHA because 1) idk sh*t about finance 2) english is not my first language
thank you so much!
The trading floor is the old UBS trading floor btw
This was so interesting! Thank you for making the vid!!
Really love that you tell the truth situation in investment bank
Keep doing these, interesting to see what shows like these get right and wrong
Industry is my favorite show. This is my first time watching your channel and I must say...wow, you're so handsome! I'm definitely subscribing now :D
The response was quite ok, but I guess with this experience I'll be more thorough with my preparation for the US firms.
Great video! Mad informative. Keep it up bro 💪
Haha interesting insight into the characters you can find in the workplace, I guess this applies to all workplaces .. there’s always one or two .. or more lol
Great vid. Great commentary. Thanks!
Cheers!
Loved the video! Thanks for the insights Afzal
