These mix ups are so interesting! They're coming from different eras but I think Nina and Don actually have something in common. Eccentrism. They're similar personalities each in their own way.

Love that song. Have the 12" and LP. Great record but African Reggae is one of my favs. Like "Hot Shot" too. What a talent. Saw her twice. Last time was like 10 yrs ago in a little club in Long Beach Ca. Here daughter was in the Peace Core by then. Sounded as good as when I saw her at the Palace in Hollywood a decade before.
We had a Record Store and she was booked to do an autograph signing there the day after the Palace Show in about the same ur as this TV show. We went to pick her up. Said her then baby was sick and couldn't come. I said there were 150 ppl waiting. She came, with no make up! Have a picture. Nina was very professional. When driving back she talked about the Goddess and her friend Layna who was also into the Goddess.
Brought out her baby. Told me to feel her head (fever). I put my hand out to ck. She said "no with your cheek".
Acted the same. This is really her.

I recommend you give it a listen because it’s a very interesting take on one of Nina’s songs. Well said. Rickles just died last month....he often talked about his time as a G.I. in the Phillipines...almost 3 years service. His humor...esp. regarding race and ethnic differences was/is an "acquired taste"...and RARE for comedians to 'get away with it'. But Don was fearless...had many black-american, hispanic and fans around the world...of all races and ethnicities. He was an "equal opportunity abuser"...even picked on his own tribe...the Jews...with hilarious consequences. Look of Don at the DEAN MARTIN ROASTS...which were broadcast of NBC in the 1970s. Priceless.

...this is from the MERV GRIFFIN SHOW. Merv often had a WEIRD panel of guest...and unlike most other American shows...ALWAYS had his guests stay for the entire show. Johnn Carson/THE TONIGHT SHOW often might have a guest stay to the side of an incoming guest////but much less so in the 80s/90s. Merv always TRIED to "mix it up" between his guests...including his most frequent guest, Zsa Zsa Gabor.

@@glennfromthebronx Having multiple guests interact after the initial interview was commonplace for many shows back through the 50s to 90s? True story. .
One day my car broke down at the Huntington beach mall on beach blv. In Huntington Beach, so I started walking towards my home which was 4 miles south on beach Blvd. I just hit the sidewalk to start walking when this Grey Chrysler Cordoba stopped and asked if I needed a ride, and I said , oh sure, as we drove on southward, I noticed this guy sounded and looked very familiar. Turns out, it was Merve Griffith. He invited me on his yacht in long Beach later that night, and I went. Michael Jackson was there, Elizabeth Taylor was there, and a whole bunch of movie stars. It was Michael Jackson's album release party for the thriller album. Me and Michael Jackson talked quite a while. It was a awesome event..I was shocked that anyone famous would ever stop and give a ride to a stranger. Awesome yacht, and the car was very nice..this was 1983. Even though the album came out in 1982. They were celebrating the huge success of the album.
