This performance, with minimal orchestration, highlights her marvelous interpretation of the melody, and those devastating lyrics. Perfect marriage of singer and song. Thank you, Linda
@@danvillejim8384 I love Karen, but i beg to differ, no one is as good as Linda was. Dolly Parton even said she was the best singer she ever heard or sang with
The most knee-buckling heartbreak song ever recorded. Linda's first breakout from The Stone Ponies, destined to be the best in her generation- and, very likely, ever. We got to see her once, February 1971, backed by the band that would be the Eagles a few months later. Un. For. Gettable.
Nor many performers or show hosts would be so confident and modest as to relegate themselves to the role of accompanist for a guest singer and be out of frame for most of the performance. Two great talents in this video.
You feel her pain. You feel her emptiness and you feel the vastness of that pain. How does a person make you feel empty and full at the same time? Her gifts are many. She doesn't just sing the lyrics she lives them. She doesn't just interpret the feeling of the song, she amasses them and they flow out of her pores. This song is so sad. The loss so painful. Beautifully written; beautiful arrangement; masterful musicians; and magnificent Linda. How we suffer with her now that she can physically no longer perform. It is a blessing we have her records. Imagine if she lived at a time where there was no technology.
Beautiful, Linda. Beautiful Linda. A simpler time. And to think that if she were just getting started now, it's unlikely that she'd make it. Thank you, Linda Ronstadt for your grace.
Bobby Darin song' If I were a Carpenter', great song. However, Linda, a voice that soars with angels! and then melts into velvet! so innocent, feminine, her Beauty absolutely STUNNING!
There is an older man over Linda’s right shoulder at about 4:30 in a turquoise shirt head bowed wiping the tears from his eyes. The emotion of the moment Linda’s singing definitely got to him like Linda’s singing effects all of us!!! Many times the third verse is cut out of the song thankfully not this time. !! Long Long Time is heartbreakingly beautiful and sad at the same time.
That's a very tough song to sing, and her being the original artist, hit those high notes with ease, no strain...wow...and just to think of how many times she performed that song with the same intense, is mind boggling.
This is LIVE in the TV studio, Few artists were doing that in those days, sticking to the safety of obvious lipsyncs. Even the Carpenters, though they could certainly deliver if given the chance. Beautiful song, one of her best, and there were plenty..
@@edc4052 Now that I listen back, you may be right, though at first impression the phrasing seemed to be slightly different from the recording. And where are those woodwinds coming from? If it's a lip-sync, it would mean Darin's guitar is faked, also possible. Anyway it's academic because we all know what her voice is capable of live.
My world was Alice Cooper, The Stooges, Black Sabbath back then... But it was hard not to see that this woman was special. When I was young just looking at her picture hurt. Physically hurt. I'm still in love with her. Ain't that silly?

No auto tune. No remixing. Nothing. She was unquestionably the best vocal talent of her generation and arguably any generation therafter.
She was fantastic but unfortunately for her that title went to Karen Carpenter

I agree ❤
Amen to that
Karen Carpenter lacked the range that Linda had. Karen leaned on lower keys . Linda could melt any man's heart. Simply Beautiful.
Linda had one of the best voices Ive ever heard in my entire lifetime of 67 years. She was extremely gifted.
There is one woman in the audience who has no idea that she is hearing the best mezzo-soprano ever to lend her voice to popular music.

Nobody could match her - still can't ❤️❤️❤️
In greatness there is always simplicity. And truth.
No frills. No posing.
Just great singing of a great song.
Rips my heart out......Bless you Linda

Wrong song. Gary White wrote that song.

Thank you for the hearts Doris!!!
You’ll seem later that Bobby’s left the stool. He said that she was so good he didn’t want to distract from her.
What a beautiful, beautiful voice. 😊
I wish we still had television shows like this - great music being performed live - people *caring about music* ....times have changed....
Not sure if she's the greatest female singer ever, but can't think of anyone better.

Love you Linda!
A true treasure. As a boy of the 70's she was a queen.
And Bobby Darin playing the guitar. Who knew?
I Know - RIGHT!😁
Darin and Ronstadt. What a beautiful duo.
The biggest lie of all,
Love’s wounds unseen,
We can “see” them in someone’s eyes as they are, the windows to our souls … 🥹
Bobby Darin ❤
The simple purity of the flute in this live performance surpasses the orchestra’s strings on her record. This is my all time favorite 😂
breath taking!
Nice to hear the full version ...
Best singer ever !
Especially because of all the different types of music she sang and did them ALL so well. 🎼❤️

Are you sure that she is singing live? Her singing sounds just like the record. I think she is singing live too, but I am not sure.

Bobby Darin died of a heart attack. He had a bad heart and had a dental procedure but didn’t take antibiotics as he should have.
