    Kind of funny that the harvester detachment is better for monster spam than crusher stampede is.

      GW can’t design rules to save their life. At least the detachments aren’t connected to color schemes or subfaction identities

      I feel like it'd be much better if screamer-killers and maleceptors could attach to carnifex bricks like ogryn or cryptothralls.

    the deathleaper being your warlord basically just lets you take the deathleaper as your only character if you so wish, because you must include a warlord.

  • @TheRationalCarpenter

    The cover enhancement works with the main rule rather well. As the gaunts move towards the enemy after getting shot, they can move without concern for cover.

  • @durazno4948
    @durazno4948 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Do you think the Crusher Stampede rule could work better if you're able to fling your monsters into combat all over the map, so your opponent is forced to damage multiple monsters without necessarily being able to kill all of them?

  • @deang8017
    @deang8017 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Assimilation Swarm seems like it has a ton of potential. It doesn't have as much obvious power as Vanguard or Invasion Fleet, but with the right list construction and game-plan I think it could really sing.

    • @ryancooper3629
      @ryancooper3629 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it suffers from the Necrons in 9th problem. The mass regen is great if your stuff can survive the enemy turn but in reality against most top end armies you won't ever be regenerating stuff because either your units will be full HP or dead.

    • @johnj.spurgin7037
      @johnj.spurgin7037 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, but when it pigeonholes you into taking 4 units... I think the problem is the limited number of harvester units.

  • @beemo1579
    @beemo1579 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Thanks for the review. Really interesting. Obviously this codex would have been written 12 months ago so we shouldnt expect much change. Hopefully it ages well and they learnt from 9th and the power level stays here for the rest of the codexes.

    • @SeanHoltzman
      @SeanHoltzman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Potential for these to be worked on within the last 3-5 years, given GW's general production pipeline and needing to include new models, Codices tended to be much shorter timelines in 9e cause no new units releases (mostly) concurrently. Indexes for sure were probably written halfway through the 9E dexes, explaining the "You already leaned these lessons why go back" of some of the rules

    • @Beaunage

      Or they could stop being so bad as a company and release them all at the same time.

    • @ryancooper3629
      @ryancooper3629 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Beaunage Releasing all codices at once would be a gargantuan effort and terrible for the marketing pipeline and if you think they would get balance better when launching every army at once you are delusional. Releasing every codex at once and then just going away for 3 years and not releasing anything would be horrible for everyone.

  • @vaettra1589
    @vaettra1589 ปีที่แล้ว

    54:00 Surprise Assault doesn't require that the unit you choose is able to target or even see the enemy selected. That means that if you want your opponent to just randomly have to take a Battle-shock test on a unit that’s holding a crucial objective in their Fight Phase, you can just spend a CP to make them do that, which is certainly a useful tool to have in your pocket

  • @ZeZwede

Assimilator sounds fun and i say this as a tyrant gaurd enthusist if i bring swarmlord next to these guys im hopeing i can get my T8 body gaurds back just by being near a ripper or Pyrovore bar that synaptic would be my go to cause i collected 18 zoans and by golly im gonna use that reroll 1s strat haha. If they've already printed the Admech codexes with copy-paste datasheets (and rad bombardment) from the index, GW needs to delay the codex and print new ones.
    I will outright refuse to buy a codex with those datasheets in it for my main army, they're that bad. Most of those datasheets have no place in the game and are completely unusable.
    The first and most crucial step to ensuring Admech doesn't have an utterly miserable next 3 years of the game is re-writing the majority of their datasheets, and reverting a lot of it back towards what it always was:
    4+ saves, BS3+, WS3+ on the melee units, etc.
    Literally wtf were GW thinking with WS4+ Ruststalkers, with only AP-1, and no way to buff themselves? Wtf were they thinking with BS4+ Rangers with 5+ saves and no AP?
    This cannot be copy-pasted into the codex. If it is, Admech players will boycott it and not buy that shit.

    • @cruelmole
      @cruelmole ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically speaking you should be comparing combat doctrines and unparalleled mastery to sticky objectives. Not saying that makes it much better as sticky objectives is a horrible detachment rule but detachment rules are generally less powerful than the overall faction rule. In the Death Guard codex you're likely to get some stronger detachment rules than at least. It's contagions you're stuck with which are at least better than sticky objectives.

    • @drunkenastarte5243
      @drunkenastarte5243 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Use some common sense dude... The first 3-4 codices were almost certainly written & finished alongside and/or within a month or so of the Indexes going to print. Absolutely 0 'public' games were played before any of these books were shipped off to the printers, thus, there will have been no ability to edit and/or re-jiggle wonky/under preforming rules.
      This is exactly why you NEVER want to be one of the first 4-6 books released.
      Sadly, Ad Mech players are probably going to get a trash codex this edition, as due to lead times, GW will maybe have had all of a month or so, if even that, of 'normal' games & tournament data to expose the issues with their Index rules.
      Tau, Votann, DG, GK's & Sisters are in better positions, since none of those are even on the Codex Roadmap yet, thus those books are all at a minimum 9+ months away from release. Thus, there absolutely IS time to go back & fix some of those glaring issues. (and besides Votann, it's possible some or even all of those armies could even be 12-20+ months away from release!)

      I just returned after 10 years away, so cant say alot about 7th-9th edition.
      But 9th felt like a bloated mess when I tried to read up on the rules.
      10th feels fun. Unbalanced? Sure. But they literaly made new mini-codexes for every army. But since they will patch everything quarterly? I can have patience. And this is comming from a Sisters player, with a realy weak index.
      Now, I havent played it to death, nor faced tons of different armies. But on a "friendly level" the game feels solid.

    • @Maximussb
      @Maximussb ปีที่แล้ว +4

      10th is brilliant. Have you played some actual games? Don’t listen or read all the negative stuff. I’ve found it super fun and much easier but also spending hours building lists which is super fun!

    • @cesarfortson8245
      @cesarfortson8245 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Gotta say, 10th is a game whose level of enjoyment can reeaaallly depend on the army you play. Certain armies got really screwed over with either shitty rules, shitty datasheets, or shitty both. If you're one of those, 10th kinda really sucks with how much stompier it is. If you are good or fighting at least a similar tiered army, then it is really fun!
      As a Grey Knight player, so far I really hate the edition. Teleporting everywhere is cool, but I came to the faction for basically futuristic psychic paladins. Since datasheets don't seem to be getting corrected (our datasheets suck really bad), I think my army might just be awful unless they give us INSANE synergy through the detachment alone. Like, I get frothingly jealous at normal Marines being able to do actual combos, but now I'm just ranting.
      Basically, the game is fun if the opponent is on an even playing field. Sadly, it's the most imbalanced I've seen since 7th edition.

      Man I majorly disagree. The balance is a bit shaky right now as it was early into 9th, but I'm VERY happy with the general shape of the rules for 10th. I think they made a lot of smart changes to how things work in 10th. If this tyranid codex is indicative of future codexes, we're gonna be in a very good place this edition.

    2 CP to bring back a unit that GSC gets armywide all the time for all units for free.... Terrible.

    Simplified but not simple lmao what a joke. If each codex gets 6 detachments and 6 strats this will be the most blaoted edition ever

      Lol how? Still less then all those subfactions, strats and Army of Renown of last edition .
      You only have to see the double page of the detachment of your enemy and have to rebember just 6 strats

    So....rapid ingressing is a wasted CP if you fail the dice, a players important unit is now sidelined for a turn, and so the entire tempo of the game can be dictated by a single dice. Wow.....what a bull!^#@ enhancement. Obliterators are nearly useless now. 4 inch movement.....zero reason to field them at the start of the game, and now 50% chance to not bring them in on the turn you need them to come in on.....lol I'm just gonna let any tyranid player I go up against control my army from the start if they run the nexus attachment.
