this is very different content for me, as i usually just analyze the makeup and costumes (which I still love), and this is more on my overall thoughts, but I hope you enjoy! 💜which character do you think lost the most potential this season ?
@@jimenagomezbrenes i'd love to!! this one took me forever to put together bc i had to learn everything from scratch, but i loved the process, and i'm already thinking of the next one 👀
I agree about your stance on Gia But Kat and McKay were the ones who suffered the most,Elliot also needed a backstory in episode 4 imo because he gives off Orphan vibes
I was floored when it was revealed Maddy was originally supposed to give the disc to Jules in interviews. That would’ve been such a good direction and STILL could’ve had drama to play off of
I would’ve loved for Maddy to find the disc and the photos and give them to Jules, only for the latter to suggest they go to the police with the disc. (I imagine Nate would have deleted the photos from his phone.)
i don’t think rue ever developed a crush on elliot, and only liked him because he enabled her addiction. jules was definitely projecting her own feelings about elliot onto rue; in my opinion anyways
I agree! If anything she maybe tight of him as another friend, but nothing romantic. Jules felt guilty about her feelings and tried to turn it around on Rue
idk i mean maddy and cassie's friendship was kind of toxic in the first season..? like cassie brought up maddy saying that nate was gay or bi or whatever and maddy threatened to "end" cassie,, i just think their friendship seemed a little fake, and (to me) maddy clearly trusted kat more (she called her instead of cassie when all that drama with nate went down)
I feel like with Nate's sexuality, not only could being gay seem emasculating to him, I also feel like, due to his father's sex tapes, he also feels, in a way "twinkified". He doesn't necessarily fear being gay, he fears being sexualized and objectified by "more masculine" men. I think it's one of his most interesting character themes: At the start of Euphoria, I was convinced Nate's dad sexually abused him, because you could really sense this fear. Nate may not have been sexually abused by his dad (directly), but subconsciously he still thinks he could become one of these young men in the porn tapes, and it terrifies him.
I agree! That's also why it's so sad when his father reduced him to the ground, grabbed him by the wrists and forced him to open up (he exposed his chest). I know Cal didn't intend to, but it could be consider a little bit sexual (like violently sexual). I think that moment for Nate was his worst fear coming true, the one thing he's been unconsciously scared of since he was a small boy.
I honestly feel really bad for Hunter. She got so much hate after season 1, single-handedly redeemed Jules herself by writing her special and then it all got tossed out the window for season 2 and she just got more hate again.
LITERALLY!!!!! Sam levinson used Hunter for All he could then kicked her out of the writing room to completely ruin the character and make Hunter revealing such intimate details about her own feelings and transition completely meaningless in S2.
@Tinker Belle oh plenty of people over that age are watching, but this is mostly the Twitter crowd we’re talking about. They hold actors personally responsible for anything their character does.
it is crazy how they never addressed Cassie's abortion ever again. And how Mckay just disappeared. But you made me realize exactly what was missing to make the whole new plotpoints more acceptable: showing cassie's fragile mental state and maybe beginning of a depressive episode before she got in with Nate. That could have changed a lot for many viewers. EDIT: some of you replied this and I must agree that it does make sense that cassie is most likely refusing to deal with the aftermath of her traumatic experience by continuing with her unhealthy copy mechanisms (being validated through men and/or love), which leed her to more traumatic experiences before she even gets to deal with what it meant for her to get an abortion or break up with mckkay. she could just straight be trying to substitute the pain for more "love" without dealing with it and that's why they did not address it in the show. "the majority of us judging Cassie have failed her." > I agree with this and I also do not think people should put Lexi in such a nice light all the time. I was extremely unconfortable on how much she exposed her sister in her own play and everybody thought that was okay... repeating her embarrassing MDMA/carrossel moment in front of her school is just cruel.
@@karabokhanyile exactly! ppl tend to forget that the show is from RUE’S pov, so from what she saw, cassie had a "low grade depression" ever since winter formal because cassie had prolly gotten the abortion a few days to a week before winter formal. plus lexi never told her about it so she wouldn’t know, and it was implied in the first episode as well when mckay said he hadn’t "seen her since.." bc they prolly never spoke again to each other after she told him she was pregnant and got the abortion
It’s not really crazy if that was the writer’s intention. Let me explain: Sometimes in life, after people experience really traumatic situations they substitute dealing with the aftermath for other traumatic situations. It’s a really sick cycle that can be broken once one gains self- awareness and is ultimately tired of making the same mistake but that sometimes takes a while from months to years. Also let’s not forget all that old trauma that never got processed coming up again. That’s what I think the writers are doing with Cassie, all her old unprocessed trauma she’s going to deal with mid show running and fully healed by the end becoming a whole new women. If not… they definitely missed an opportunity.🤷🏾♀️
This singlehandedly would've resolved all my grievances about the Nate/Cassie storyline. I don't think it 100% explains why Nate keeps going back to a girl he kinda despises, but it gives Cassie a legitimate reason that isn't slutshamey
Apparently Dominic was brought on under the condition that he could leave at any point to pursue his music again, so his character had no real strings attached. Which made his character completely and utterly pointless. What a waste.
@@Lunabyes why on earth did they bend over backwards for this man? They gave him more screen time with a little sing along than barbie got the entire season for what? What was his purpose?
i agree i love dominic but i think the season would have been the same even without elliot, like rue was already doing drugs she didn't need a friend to do it with her and jules could have cheated with any other character, maybe they should have bring the girl from s1 the only thing i can think of is telling that rue had the suitcase but fez could have done that
One thing that I feel was weird about the Cassie conflict was that everyone kept saying Cassie slept with her best friend’s ex-boyfriend, but no one mentioned the fact that it was her best friend’s ABUSIVE ex-boyfriend. There are characters in the story who knew about the abuse (including Cassie herself ? I can’t remember) but no one mentioned that. Obviously sleeping with someone who your best friend is thinking of going back to is already bad, but it’s even worse if it was your best friend’s abuser??? Am I going crazy??
This is the only time I'm gonna defend Cassie's actions, but alot of the characters in-universe don't have a real reason to think Nate is abusive. No one has ever seen how fucking awful the guy is besides his family (who's gonna bury every crime he commits) and his victims. Maddie defended him every chance she got and has barely come to terms with the abuse herself. Her post-break up complaints could be chalked up to a typical, toxic relationship to an outsider. Nate was also cleared of all charges after the other guy turned himself in. Who's gonna question a guy who willingly admitted to those crimes? Abuse aside, it's fucked that Cassie went after her best friends ex, period. She's well aware of how toxic they were together, even though she may not have been aware of the abuse
@@gracekang2161 cmon. she was VERY WELL AWARE of the abuse. Even Kat was aware of Nate being abusive and called him a 'psycho' in season 1. Hell, at the end of season 1 at the formal, Nate verbally abused Maddy in front of Cassie and Lexi and called her a 'c*nt' and was very aggressive with her. dont make excuses. cassie knew
I think it comes down to the fact that Cassie may have not recognized that it was abuse. Nobody can excuse physical abuse but the way Cassie was written and her naivety shows that she probably didn’t even see that it was in-fact verbal abuse. I think her view of love is very warped and maybe that’s why her and Maddie were both attracted to Nate in some form. She probably somehow glamorized Nate and Maddie’s relationship as well. Either way it was horrible what she did even without the abuse angle.
Sometimes it works, sometimes you don’t wanna think, just look at pretty aesthetics. But it’s so much better when there’s an overarching plot that actually encapsulates you.
I agree. I think it would be even more interesting if they were at the party instead of with Eliott. One of the big problems with the second season is that it feels like the viewer is watching two completely different shows, and to some extent, disconnected from each other. On one side we had this triangle Nate, Maddy and Cassie; on the other, Rue Jules, Elliot and the suitcase plot. In the end, Elliot is a totally unnecessary character and the Jules and Rue plot would be much better without him. Putting them at Maddy's party would make the plots come together and it would be much more interesting to watch as we would have: Nate, Jules, Rue, Maddy, Cassie all in the same place. It would be dramatic and interesting at the same time. Including the fact that the Jules and Rue plot would arrive at the same place, as there were also a lot of drinks at the party.
I'm just pissed that Kat had this opening scene of her maybe exploring her sexuality more and what seemed to be maybe some body issues. But then they threw it all out the window and had that incredibly awful breakup scene
If I remember correctly it’s cause they wanted to give Kat an eating disorder, which imo is stupid, and the actress thought so too so she vocalized her distaste and they got upset and ruined her character/cut her scenes
Omg did you see how he got into Mckays face at that party…or when he would repeatedly have those horror dreams about his dad SA him, when they talked about the tapes he found. The constant daydreams of Jule. Sure there’s less of that in S2 but it’s not completely dropped.
@Ks The writer’s can make character question their sexuality without actually “making” them gay. In Lexi’s play his sexuality(and by the way he reacted) was more than just hinted or “trolling” coming from the writers.
@Ks sexuality is fluid it can change at any age babe sorry to burst ur bubble but male and female are constructs. Gender is not binary and even many plants are hermaphrodites like tomatoes.
Cassie’s was the worst. They completely assassinated her character, sabotaged her arc, and ignored her trauma. edit: people saying they do mention her trauma (subtly) in S2 didnt watch the same show lol. S1 they did that, S2 they made her a strawman for conflict, with them throwing all her positive traits out the window.
And her acting is phenomenal but it’s completely her character that is annoying now. Not because she’s a typical girly person but because they molded her into the stereotype of girly girls basically being evil pick mes,
mhm. there’s no coming back from here. it wasn’t a short fling that she didn’t think much about, because she did. she thought about the consequences, about how it could affect maddy, if it was a good idea to fall in love with nate, etc. she was fully aware of how it could hurt her best friend, but she took the risk anyways. she even studied maddy’s fashion and started dressing like her. just an evil person all around.
@@hmm4553 i reject the idea that she’s evil. she wants to be loved. In S1 there was that one guy who told her no one would ever love her for more than her body and there’s the whole thing with her dad leaving her- it’s just not consistent with her personality to be acting the way she did but i think there are justifications within her character for the acts she commits but not for the way she justifies them
@@georgie488 personally I think it is consistent with her character. She cheated on McKay twice and led a guy on just to backtrack that she wasn't doing the right thing in S1. She slept with Nate while saying she's betraying her best friend, once again proving again she does do bad things, thinks about it, and doesn't care about how it affects others. She wants male validation enough to betray her dignity, it's not beyond her to betray her own friends for it. It doesn't matter that she wants to be loved, if that's enough to hurt others, then she's just not a good person.
I just feel like the entire plot/theme of this season should've been "actions have consequences" Rue: downwards spiral out on the streets forced to overcome her addiction all alone. Jules: finds trouble with lying about her age to meet strange men online. Kat: realizing that being a cam girl is dangerous once someone tracks your IP adress and stalks you. Maddy: realizing that in life you have to work hard for the glamorous things you want & make questionable choices in the process. Mckay: trying to overcome toxic masculinity put onto him by his friends and father. Nate: suffering great karma behind ruining others lives. Cassie: struggles in finding self love. Fez: trying to find a life purpose while trying to get him & ashtray out the Dr.. business. Lexi: finally finding a voice and confidence. Weirdo Sam dropped the ball with this season.
holy shit this is amazing and super creative. i much would have rather the plot went just like your comment rather than the way it did. the current plot is super unrealistic and yours fits better and sounds way more interesting.
@@premiumvanille183 from what i know she never did, it’s just a possibility for camgirls to get stalked if your ip address isnt protected. as the OP said this seasons theme should’ve been actions have consequences and thats one consequence of being a teen camgirl.
I can’t tell you how much Euphoria would have worked better if they’d set it in university, where more of these storylines could reasonably take place. We got glimpses of this in Mckay’s story and it was so fascinating. The high school setting is so over done and if shows like Fresh Meat (very different tone but still) are any proof, the potential for more complex coming of age stories is so big! Plus, the underage sex aspect would have been…less so
The actress that plays Cassie has said th at she had to tell the director about certain scenes where where she felt it unnecessary for her to be shirtless. Even if it was in college, i think it’s creepy how much he wanted to show her shirtless
real. it could’ve been a trashy community college or a smaller scale university where they’re all freshman (maybe all knew each other in high school, like a really small uni… i don’t think any of them would really be in big universities or wouldn’t right away at least) and living with their parents or in dumpy apartments. basically a college without dorms. but i could see a college with dorms also working, but it seems they like the close aspect of high school and i think a small college or university could work for that. some of the people, especially in season 2, rarely are seen with their parents so idk why living in an apartment with an npc roommate or a studio dorm or whatever would make any diff.
@@tsuki3752 I don’t understand how it would be taken place in a community college especially since most people in community college don’t speak to each other and are 50 years old 💀
28:25 in the first script Maddie actually gave the disk to Jules anonymously telling her she thought she'd like to know they exist , i think this would have way more consistent with her storyline in S2 of maturing and sm better than the weird Russian Roulette scene
It could have also been her attempt of an indirect way of her trying to prompt Jules to come clean about the Tyler accusation as she could have said the disk is what Nate was threatening her with
Ash's actor said in an interview that Fez was suppoused to die, but two days before filming Sam rewrote the script and added that bathtub scene with Ashtray shooting everyone and him dying.
@@Cherrrrrrrrrrrrrr but season one he wasn’t doing that stuff. he was protective and observant and waited until something happened before he would act. season two he went off the rails
zendaya mentioned that before the pandemic s2 was completely different and i really wish we got that version of the show instead of this. also, elliot was an unnecessary plot device and by adding him in levinson undid all the great writing hunter did for the jules special.
I don't think Rue had feelings for Elliot. He gave her drugs and enabled her addiction, and I think that's what she loved. I never got the impression that her feelings towards him were romantic, which makes it super gross that Elliot and Jules were planning on making their relationship polyamorous without talking to her about it. Also, Rue didn't actually become a drug dealer. She never had any intentions of selling the drugs. Her plan was to consume all of the drugs and then kill herself. She lied to Laurie for the free drugs.
Tbh I don’t think Nate really loves Cassie for her personality. He loves the fact that she is feminine, cute, and most importantly how vulnerable she is. He’s attracted to how submissive and easily she can be manipulated into doing what he wants with her.
You encapsulated the idea of why Nate probably likes Cassie really well. I get it. Nate can't actually have complete control like he wants over Maddie because Maddie is demanding and domineering and they clash VERY often leading to their many breakups. Cassie, despite him not actually liking her and is quite annoyed by her, is very easy to control. She gives into her whims and is very soft and naive. She has all the attributes Nate wanted in Maddie for the sake of control. That's all he truly cares about and I feel like in that moment when he decided to go after Cassie, it was probably the start or the duration of him kind of not wanting Maddie anymore, at least as the primary girl. His life is slipping from the "stability" that he deemed as such because of the abuse thing, the Jules stuff, his sexuality, his dad. He, in my opinion, wasn't visibly desperate but he psychologically wanted to have at least one thing he could control effortlessly
I always saw Nate's sudden fall for Cassie having to do with Jules. At first, he didn't really like her. He took advantage of her being drunk in S2E1 and because he views her as "easy" to have sex with. But after he gets beat up, we see him fantazising about Maddy, Cassie, and Jules. So he thinks he loves Cassie, or forces himself to love Cassie, because she can be the version of Jules that he wants: similar looks but completely, traditionally feminine. And that's why it seems like he doesn't really love her, because he doesn't. He just wants to replace Jules with someone that he thinks he could be with while still thinking of her. Not to mention, he knows that Cassie is easy to control and he can manipulate her. Even with their fighting scenes, she doesn't fight back nearly as much as Maddy or Jules would.
Yesss Cassie to him really is a more socially acceptable version of Jules aka cis, straight, and will do what he wants. Aside from Nate’s obvious transphobia I think Jules knows herself more than Cassie and won’t take Nate’s shit (I mean she did pull a knife on him)
Jules cheating wasn't inconsistent imo, because she also told Rue about Anna knowing how Rue feels about her which imo was insensitive so her cheating wasn't surprising
that’s fair! i think jules is def flighty so i agree it’s not totally inconsistent for her to cheat. i guess what’s inconsistent (for me) is the lead up. in S2, they are in a more committed relationship. jules has decided she wants to be with rue. they have a love montage. so when she cheats so effortlessly, after just one fight & w/o recognizing rue is struggling, it feels a bit misplaced. in S1, it makes more sense bc jules is confused, lost, & overwhelmed with so much. she hooks up with anna partly bc she’s hallucinating about nate. and she doesn’t think her & rue are serious. but i’m also just biased bc i didn’t love how it added a second love triangle 😅
@@artatmidnight Yeah I'm also bias because I didn't like Jules in season 1 (I'm not a hater I just didn't like her for Rue) and therefore don't consider her actions inconsistent because I always regarded her as a really self-centered person who might possibly be Polyamorous. The Jules special tried to redeem her from a Rules pov but I didn't buy it because it felt like Hunter's version of Jules and not the real one Sam introduced to us in season 1,so when Sam's version of Jules came back the hate/dislike also came back from the audience too. The lead up to the cheating being due to sexual frustration and the Elliot's charm (who would've gotten to me too ngl) made sense to me because I understood Jules saying she's no longer interested in men to mean that she won't conform to beauty standards that aim please men anymore as a trans woman and not that she's not going to date one ever again
you're so wrong. Jules cheating is inconsistent!! Jules isn't the type of person to cheat based on season 1. Jules is someone who was searching for actual LOVE. She spent countless nights with weirdos because shes a young trans woman who never felt she could be loved openly and proudly by someone else until she met Rue. Rue opened up Jules to realizing she does deserve real genuine love by someone else. The Anna situation was meant to represent how badly Jules wanted Rue to show interest in her without being so timid and shy, and it's hard to love Rue with how much she was depending on Jules for sobriety in season 1. That's what made Jules hesitant to be commit to Rue in season 1.
@@iris-xo Lol I'm not wrong, there's no such thing as a wrong opinion You think Jules sleeping with Anna and telling Rue about it knowing how Rue feels about her isn't sus then idk what to tell you. It's not hard to love Rue because she's an addict,it's hard for Jules to fully commit to Rue because she has mommy issues Go watch the special episode again👍🏽
@@karabokhanyile Jules telling Rue about Anna was basically her way of throwing hints to Rue of how she wants Rue to be more forward with her. Rue is too anxious to tell Jules how she actually feels about her. In the whole show we only as viewers hear what Rue thinks of Jules but she never fully expresses this to Jules, so in Jules’s POV she’s always getting mixed signals and confused. Especially in season 2 - where Rue is lying about being sober and blowing Jules off to hang out with Eliott secretly resulting in Jules thinking she’s a bad girlfriend & Rue isn’t really into her anymore. Rue lacks communicating with Jules properly.
I'm honestly so confused why Hunter and even Zendaya didn't speak up about how bad some of the storylines were especially JULES' - like I genuinely wonder how Hunter feels about season 2 because I feel like she was disappointed in the direction but we would never know for sure... it's just shocking to me how poorly Jules was done in season 2 & I always say her as the second main character to Rue
Hunter did actually mention that she thought that Elliot's character wasn't necessary, but ultimately "it was not what was good for the characters, but good for the show."
They’re trying to get rehired. It’s never a good look to bad mouth your job, especially if you still work there. Look what happened to Katherine Hiegl, that difficult label will follow you, even if you’re right, your reputation is still the most valuable thing in Hollywood
@@tapdancingrabbits124 umm I’m not meaning for them to speak up to the press. Zendaya would never do something like that, but they’re both close with Sam Levinson and especially Zendaya has a bit of power for Sam to at least take their opinions into consideration. Season 2 is just a mess and more of them should’ve expressed it honestly. It’s inconsistent and too many characters were ruined.
@@lazerlightning7777 yeah I know they said that but then after season 2 ended I think we all realized Eliott was not necessary at all and literally did nothing… so I’m not even sure what they were referring to lol
they both said that when they were first introduced to the idea of elliot’s character they thought it was unnecessary and didn’t like it. but they probably cant say too much bad stuff about the show.
If they wanted Jules to cheat on Rue then she should’ve hooked up with Ana again. Especially because in the special episode she talked about being more interested in girls.
This show is going to be the new riverdale. Starts off good and slowly gets worse before plummeting. This is what happens when a show relies on an attractive cast rather than good writing. They could make absolute garbage but be okay because the cast members are hot.
God i was so afraid of that happening because i love euphoria and i hope that maybe season 3 is well planned out like season one. I do not need another riverdale 😭😭
With Cassie, getting with Nate after he made fun of her is the ultimate validation for someone who struggles with self-esteem issues. It feels like a win for her to be wanted by someone who previously didn't approve of her, and as a chronic man-pleaser, the harshest critic's approval means the most.
I think they had Maddie do the babysitting job bc babysitting/nannying is a very glamorous job when done for the right people. It’s pretty low impact when it’s for a wealthier family and the children are older, and it allows her to be in a chill luxurious place away from her parents and the life she doesn’t want. She gets to lay by the pool and have a little boy faun over her and dress up in fancy clothes while getting paid some pretty good money. Makes perfect sense why she would had that job tbh, because she can do pretty much the bare minimum and it has great perks.
In season 1, Nate was kinda her sugar daddy when he got her that coat. They make a little montage about how she was trying to freeze her eggs, I assume it has something to do with her wanting to get money maybe through donating them, and eventually she works as a baby sitter...I think the reason why she was looking for a job was so she could still manage to pay for her clothes and that stuff.
@@hyfrchloe same! we got to see her chilling by the pool and trying on luxurious clothes she would want. The job surveyed the lifestyle she desires. It's a perfect low-effort job for her as she did mention she wants to do nothing.
Idk how people like lexi in season 2 she literally releases everyones trauma without asking from them and her play was supposed to tell us about her but its all about other characters
For me it’s kinda the point. The play is about the “secondary characters” like herself, she can’t have that much of her own storyline because she doesn’t have one. She was and still very overshadowed by her sister and the people in her life. It was indeed very bad of her to make a play about her friends but didn’t tell them, which is odd.
No literally because I actually felt Cassie was justified for being angry in that scene and i don’t think Cassie is as bad as everyone makes her out to be because one I dislike that she basically kinda chose Nate an abusive guy over her friends and I feel like she just is not a loyal person but also nates manipulative and Cassie obviously has some serious mental issues and I feel like people brush that over, her and maddy both I feel insanely bad for especially maddy having that gun at her head, they need serious therapy and that’s coming from a person who’s had trauma from a young age and has no therapy
Right? And in what world would rue be so happy that Lexi just showed everyone her most traumatic moments about her father and his death like I get the point of the play but you don’t just do that esp without asking her
8:15 ; rue running from the cops like that is actually one of the most realistic things they could’ve done at that point in the show (obviously with a little inflation bc it’s a tv show). My roommate is a paramedic and has literally picked addicts up in the ambulance who have either OD’d or are just super high and trying to take them to the hospital and they have broken out of restraints and the ambulance and darted out into the street. Dodged cars, hid in garbage bins/dumpsters, broke through backyards. We watched this scene together and literally had to pause it while They recounted a story that was extremely similar to Rue’s at that point. Just wanted to comment on that, lol.

28:22 alexa demie said that originally there was a scene of maddy giving jules the tape anonymously, which i would've liked much more than nate being the one to give it to her.
Strangely enough, with the introduction of Faye in the first episode, I thought she was going to be the spanner in the works when I it came to Rue and Jules’ relationship rather than Elliot. Hear me out, Faye looked and felt (in that first scene) kinda like a parody of season 1 Jules (ironically), and she was a user (which is the same reason rue went and latched onto Elliot), so I figured she would become rue’s new fixation. Clinging onto someone who she could project Jules onto, yet who also enabled her and didn’t make her feel like a burden. With her attentions diverted I felt like this would give room to highlight jules’ growth (which isn’t even really touched on past the special episode, which was insanely good imo) and for rue to eventually see that Jules was no longer able to fulfil the role manic pixie dream girl for her, and would not just wait for her to circle back to her.
@@martinibunny that's what makes me so mad about euphoria season 2 Sam had no plan and just went into it and completely ruined it. It's so funny how bad Maddy's birthday party truly was, it was so small and souless which is the opposite of Maddy in every way. - Rue & Jules wasn't there because of Zendaya and Hunter's relationship not being on speaking terms with Jacob during filming and they prioritized Nate being present at the party for obvious reasons !!! that's just that and it's so obvious behind the scenes drama ruined a lot of things in season 2 .
1. I genuinely hate how much people victim blame Cassie but basically put Maddie on a pedestal. 2. Nate is too evil that he isn't believable at all. 3. They ruined Lexie by having her put on a horrible play were she did something she had no right to do, air out everyones dirty laundry. Why did people think that was some amazing move? It was petty and pathetic. 4. Why does no one talk about the fact that Nates parents are clearly both horrible and don't love their kids? It would be a miracle if any of the kids came out normal with those parents. I'm not defending Nates actions but I feel like that is the reason he is the way he is, and no one seems to ever bring it up and actually talk about it. 5. Why in the world was Cassie's abortion never talked about again? I imagine that had a huge effect on her and its just never talked about in the show? 6. Good to know that we can talk about drug abuse, SA, DV, and abortion but still use the abuse victims become abusers trope (Nate). 7. What even is this show anymore?! 8. ETHAN IS BEST BOI AND DESERVES WAY BETTER!
gonna reply bc i agree with you so much!!!! 1. absolutely agree. i hate that they're pitted against each other in this season and by the end it all felt pointless, that whole "love triangle" felt that way. i actually like cassie and sympathize with her a lot and despise what sam did to her. a complete 180 with hardly any build up and no satisfying conclusion for something that took up way too much screentime. 2. YES i thought he was bad enough in s1 when he kept escalating the tyler/maddy/jules stuff along with also abusing maddy and getting off scot free AND snitching on fez, but s2 was even more insane. it felt like he was a shell of a human and i wish they focused more on his trauma. 3. same. i will never understand why so many people thought the play was such a girlboss move. it singlehandedly ruined her for me too and took away any sympathy i had for her. there was no reason good enough to do that, especially when cassie was so obviously having a long drawn out nervous breakdown that everyone treated like teenage fit throwing. 4. yeah that expands on how i wish his trauma was explored more and was more consistent. also why were we teased again with the missing little brother stuff? it's so unbelievable that all this interpersonal family drama goes down but absolutely NO mention of that kid. 5. she's so clearly spiraling and traumatized from this and has no support and never gets to cope with this before she's in an awful relationship with nate where she's treated like the worse person and like a villain. the choice to put her through that in s1 only to make her this awful with no explanation or development in s2 is rancid. 7. idk, i'm still not over rue's narration at the end that implies that the rest of the school year could be completely off screen when half the characters are about to graduate and leave and the drug dealer issues/fez's fate weren't mentioned at all. also hate what they did to jules and kat and how many plotlines just got totally wiped with no explanation. the show might as well take place on mars.
@@loen1z Im happy to see I'm not the only one! Literally people have full on written novels about how I'm wrong on many of these points (biggest one is that I'm somehow victim blaming Maddie by standing up for Cassie...people be crazy)!
I literally agree with you on all points. 1. Cassie did something really wrong, but everyone hating on her blindly and cheering on Maddie while she is physically abusing her is so toxic 3. I understand Lexi being insecure of Cassie but the play was off limits. I also don't like the way Cassie and Lexi's mother downplays Cassie's trauma. 4. Nate needs a great character arch (by this I mean make him do something good, which I do realise will take a lot of brainstorming). He is going to be believable then, otherwise he will seem like a cartoon villain which only considers characters as black and white
Nate went through a pretty major retcon that not many people seem to recognize. S1 Nate is the asshole jock with a hot girlfriend. He's the guy that everyone loves for some reason but you avoided in school, only to find out that he was an abusive prick. Because that's all he was- a manipulative and smart, but hotheaded prick. S2 Nate is turning into a fullblown psychopath with serious school shooter vibes. Isn't he supposed to be the hot, popular football guy? Why does he not have a single friend? We literally do not see him interact with anyone but the main cast and he's always skulking around. Since when did he lose all his friends and popularity? I didn't even notice how much his character changed to be much colder until I saw clips from the first season. He showed alot more emotion back then. What made Nate scary in the first place is how much he hides his darkness, and how far he's willing to go to get what he wants
Sam Levinson literally said Dominic Fike can leave the show whenever he wants. He doesn’t take the characters as seriously as he did in season 1. It’s just lazy now.
I feel like thats a lot of shows. stranger things, riverdale, etc. Once the show is put on a pedestal, production snd writers feel like they aernt held to the same standards because they are aware people will watch no matter what.
I am kinda surprised you didn't say anything about how the whole Ash being violent and crazy came out of nowhere and SPOILER was barely developed before his death. I thought this was one of the most laughable moments of the season -- the scene of him and Fez brought me no emotion or whatsoever because it was sooooo dramatic and so unnecessarily violent. Felt like the Daeneyers arc of becoming the mad queen in the curse of a few episodes idk
yes i left Ash out because he's more of a minor character, but i totally agree with you. the fact that Ash had no lines too was also odd ! apparently they wrote that whole scene like a day before filming which explains a lot
@@artatmidnight Anyway huge props for you for this!!! I appreciate so much all the work you put on this and your analysis is on point. Thanks for expressing a lot of what we felt and couldn't put in words ❤️❤️❤️
His death in general was just so odd? Like what purpose does him being killed off serve? I know we won’t know until season 3 but I’m not understanding how Ash’s death forwards any of the plots
@@megamilk5792 yeah its so frustrating. maybe the actor was getting too old too fast? (as if realism was important in this show lol) really i think sam loves any chance he can get to traumatize and degrade his characters without the skills to properly show what he aftermath of that trauma would actually look like (for example what happened to maddie- going from looking near catatonic on her bed after what nate did to her to seeing her smirking and mocking cassie when she's walking down the hallway with nate literally the next time we see her). it felt like half of this show was cutaways and was almost nonlinear because of it- the play for example gave me just as many questions and new complaints than explanations of the past and how it effected the characters. season 1 was wasn't perfect but it was so so much more cohesive and made sense and felt fully formed. a lot of this season felt like the worst parts of UK skins, degrassi and s1 of euphoria combined. mess.
@Santa Spears i hate to break it to you, but apart from Sydney Sweeney who gave an amazing performance, i doubt anyone else is going to receive an emmy this year
@Santa Spears the Emmys are garbage. BCS was the best show this year and didn’t get a single win. Emmys are not a good way to determine how good a show is
11:23 Rue never actually became a drug dealer, it was just a ploy to get free drugs because her addiction was getting worse & she was so desperate that she didn’t care about the consequences. I honestly feel like that makes sense for her character & I think there will be consequences in season 3.
It doesn't make sense why they would give a drug addict to run buisness especially for a person who just turned 18. and the whole rue running from cops was so unrealistic and out of place the show didnt need that
@@georgeb9991 Lori didn’t think that Rue could successfully run a business. She was planning on Rue’s failure so that she could sell her into human trafficking.
@@georgeb9991 people speculate Lori already knew rue was a drug addict and wouldn't be able to pay her back for the drugs. to pay back the drugs Lori gave rue, rue would have to sell her body. human trafficking. it adds up bc in s2 eps 5, rue goes to lori's house and Lori says to rue, "if I was going through withdrawal, I would do ANYTHING. it's one of the good parts about being a woman. even if you don't have money, you still have something, someone wants." and in the same episode, it pans over to a door with a lock and someone's scratching at the door from the inside. Lori knew all along rue wouldn't be able to pay back the 10k. so it kind of makes sense why Lori lent her the drugs. she knew from the beginning rue was an addict and could only pay her back one way; selling rue's body.
@@georgeb9991 lorrie did it to traffic rue remember how she brought it up multiple times? Also as an addict when I was in active addiction I did some crazy stuff that I couldn't do if I wasn't running for my freedom adrenaline does that to people it was accurate. There were significantly worse things in season 2 to criticize especially since rue is the only character Sam cares about in season 2.
after watching zendaya’s interview when she was basically saying how sam levinson was still writing scripts while they was shooting s2. just makes so much sense to why the plot and some of the writing was horrible.. it’s just like why would he still need to be writing if he had all of the lockdown to do so.
Cassie is what Nate thought that he wanted. She litterally was like "I'll do what ever you want," and he liked her less than ever. She is an embodiment of this male fantasy, and it doesn't give her or Nate the satisfaction they thought that it would.
to me it seems that Sam thinks making characters suffer in and of itself makes for great art. The problem with season 2 (among many problems) is that the characters go through all of this suffering with little to no growth to show for it. In many cases, they even backslide. Which can be true to life, but the show makes the backsliding seem like an inconsistency with the writing and not a genuine slip back into old thinking/habits. There’s hardly any consequences or lessons learned, and by the finale, we’re expected to believe they’ve overcome despite doing little to earn that belief. The growth feels forced and inconsistent. The only exception to this is Rue and that’s why I wish Sam would get a writers room or had just created the show about Rue and Rue only.
Maybe season 2 was bad but the scene between Rue relapsing and her mum, her sister crying in the room next door... this scene will forever live in my head rent free and I can't think of many other shows which delivered anything as emotionally wired and well baked.
I think this season was the way it was because of behind the scenes conflicts and production stuff, but mostly also the pressure to make the second season better than the literal cultural resitter that was season 1, and if we also think, the show was never liked or praised because of the storylines neither the plot or anything, but it was for the visuals, the outfits, the transitions and the MAKEUP, so I think to kinda separate that, was hard, especially when you have millions of people expecting the best from you. but still, it was a good season and I really liked it.
Here's the thing with Nate: I don't care that he had a bad childhood. Men like him are a dime a dozen. I have to work with carbon copies of him, who show up to work 2 hours late, and don't even get reprimanded for it, and don't even apologize for doing so. Yeah, there's a reason they are the way they are; but that doesn't excuse their actions. (and that's the tame version without the racism, sexism, etc. If I of any of my collegues pulled that stunt, there would be a write-up/firing. But he didn't even get a talking to)
totally agree. To be honest, the whole toxic (and possibly closeted queer) jock with daddy issues is not groundbreaking and far too common in teen/ya shows. So I'm not personally interested. It sucks to grow up in an abusive household and that can really mess up a person, but the rest of the world don't have to deal with it. We all have problems and trauma, but not all of us go around just terrorizing people bc of it.
For maddies bday party I think Jules being friends with Kat would've been the only reason she's there. While the girls intreact with each other the main friend group is Cassie ,Maddie, BB and Kat. Not all of them plus Jules and Rue. Rues really only somewhat friends with Lexi. They're not all close so they wouldn't all be at the party.
i was willing to accept rue’s stupid drug dealer idea since it was pretty clear she was manic, and in a state like that people won’t be consistent with their own personality. my issue with it was just that it went nowhere. like is she really not gonna face any consequences for the amount of money she owes that lady??
After Lori gives her the heroine rue blacks out and wakes up in a room with multiple needle marks on her arm while shes locked in a room. Lori lied about not having anything but heroine in order to trap rue (you can see she has a suitcase full of other drugs) and keeps rue under the influence while letting men have sex with the her unconscious body. Hence the line "The good thing about being a woman is that you always have something people want." and the other line about selling her to some real bad people. She was using Rues body to make back the money. Even so.... they didn't actually do anything with that other than show Rue look kinda panicked after seeing the marks on her arms and running away. So Rue technically did face consequences no one dwelled on it for very long though
@@Joi.530 I watched that scene twice but I only found one needle mark. I mean her arm was bruced but that‘s to be expected considering how Laurie poked around in there
@@Joi.530 yeah no. We re talking about giving 50k worth of drugs to a high school minor and addict. No drug dealer thinks that’s worth sex with an unconscious body.
@@tylerriggs95 first of all it was $10k worth of drugs. second, laurie wasn’t just wanting to have an unconscious body, she was going to make rue work for her or as she threatened to do “sell her to some real sick people”
Lexi writing a play about everybody's lives was a horrible idea and I think on paper it was supposed to be this deep psychology journey of how she viewed everybody, which makes sense if she's suffering from depression or on the verge of a nervous breakdown, but instead it comes across as shallow and vindictive, especially towards her sister. Cassie does deserve it though. If anything, I thought Lexi's story would have been a way for her and Fez to bond and we have intimate scenes of them forming this friendship by hanging out and bonding. She starts to see things from his life perspective while remaining logical and rational. She learns to be more outgoing and not hide herself from people, she can break free of living in the shadow of her sister, by standing up to Cassie and her mother. Kat treating Ethan like shit in the diner. The writers go out their way to show Kat as a manipulative, selfish, bitch. Having her go on this whole rant referring to incel reddit forums when he was being very direct and calm about her pathetic lie claiming she has a brain disorder. She also was playing games with him talking about "my experience" sounds very similar to when certain people talk about "my truth". I don't know what they were thinking when writing her this season. Lastly is Cassie ...she needs psychotherapy and counseling. That's about it. She probably needs to befriend a few guys that don't want to screw her to show that she is capable of making healthy friendships with men without revolving her entire self around the guy she's with. She has daddy issues too, so those need to be looked at as well... in therapy.
Honestly Lexi’s play isnt far off on what people do to expose others. We see that everyday in social media especially within the Tea Community and I personally think that’s what they were going for. I’m not saying it is but maybe there is a bit of symbolism
@@mintyskullz i can see what you’re saying, however if she reslly wanted to show them they’re actions yk she could’ve just put on the play for them, or for them and a couple other people, not the whole school. Rue doesn’t resllt have a problem w it so it’s not a big deal, but i personally don’t think that was okay for lexi to share her buisness out there to the world about her addiction and her dads passing/funeral. Wirh Cassie we all know she deserves it, but Lexi’s intentions don’t seem nice, she says she didn’t write the play to embarrass Cassie but along with the help of Cassie herself, it humiliated her. ( especially with the carousel scene, bc in what part is that necessary) Don’t worry i’m not arguing or anything, I love Lexi i just think people like her so much they tend to just overlook this
@@AutumnExplorer you’re totally right here, yes Lexi’s play might’ve been to show her side of things, to finally been seen/heard, however here’s the thing the play isn’t even really about her, of course it is in a sense she’s the narrator/play writer and she’s giving us a run down of her life, but she never shared anything about herself, nothing that makes her well her, it’s all just about other people like her friends and their private matters. I feel like Lexi wanted to use this position as an observer, a side character, to share how she feels and in a way she did, but not necessarily. Her play doesn’t include any of her self struggles besides maybe idk cassie hitting puberty before her but that’s not really something v important,. It also reminds me of how people get invested in celebrities and always try to air their business in a way. Rue is a very shy person and has multiple mental illnesses, she didn’t even want to go up on stage in s1 so i’m honestly surprised she wasn’t upset at Lexi, but i’m not complaining or anything. I just think that addiction and death/greif are extremely personal matters and know matter how much you’re upset with the person you don’t air their buisness to other people, let alone the whole school (i’m realizing right now that she did send a script to Rue beforehand however i just still think it shouldn’t be included but if she’s okay with it) Now with Cassie, not that cassie is an amazing bc she’s not, we all saw how she acted this season, she was a wreck, but she didn’t deserve to be embarrassed like that. Lexi said her play wasn’t to do that, but it did, and honeslty i think that’s just something she’s telling herself, bc if she didn’t want to humiliate cassie she wouldn’t of wanted to put some of the things she put in the play like she did. For an example the carousel scene like what did that have anything to relate to what Lexi was sharing about her? Cassie clearly has issues and i’m not going to diagnose her here i’m not a doctor, but i do believe she a has mental issues most likely stemmed from the trauma of her dad, which is not an excuse of course just an explanation. Lexi sees her sister isn’t in a good state of mind, and even if Cassie was being awful to her, she didn’t need to do all that, like you said her play just comes off as petty and vindictive in my opinion. With Maddy too it’s like Lexi didn’t even ask her to put in the issues with her family, like maybe it’s not a big deal, but from what we know about maddy she doesn’t like being vulnerable, or it seems that way. now im not trying to hate in Lexis character, i still like her, i just don’t agree with her decision to do that like a lot of Lexi fans do. okay now onto kat, i’m disappointed this season with kats character in general, and i know that’s because of the whole Sam and Barbie thing, but everything just seems so unexpected? like for just more drama they wanted to include issues w kat and ethan, or it’s like they didn’t know what to do now that they just threw away that storyline. Yes we see kat gaining more of a voice, more confidence, but the thing is you can do that and still not be a bitch. I like kat but that’s exactly what they turned her into. Like last season the finale she really like ethan and was finally trusting him that he likes her for her, which is great progress for her character and for her overall! Then season 2 starts and all the sudden she can’t stand him? I get that’s because she has self esteem issues, but they could’ve found a better way to write that in, while not including the diner scene (because as an audience that gives us no sympathy for kat). And lastly cassie, oh boy there’s alot i can say about her but i think you basically summed it up, like maddy, cassie has never had an ideal of stable relationship growing up, her parents fought and ended up divorcing, on top of that her dad basically abandons them. We don’t know for sure but i don’t believe cassie has been in therapy, and i feel like that would benefit her alot, as long as she needs to put in the effort to be better. She looks for happiness in other people, because she can’t stand to be alone, because of her abandonment issues. To her, being in love no matter how it makes her feel, good, bad, etc, is better than being sad, good, etc by herself, inside she is still just a little girl looking for the love her dad never gave her, she needs to look for things that make HER happy outside of people/ and not turn to substances either (alcohol) which we can see addiction runs through both her dad and mom. She needs to heal her inner child, and i believe a lot more progress and happiness with come for her then, but mot until she understands this and gets the help. I’m sorry that this was so long, i just had a lot to say 😭
Honestly, Jules' and Maddy's costumes did so much heavy lifting for their character arcs. Also, I was disappointed that the Jules/Nate plot was dropped because in mainstream media there haven't been many portrayals of straight men mistreating trans women in a way that's sympathetic towards trans women
Tbh Cassie’s and Nate’s story got boring so quick there was just nothing to it after they got together publicly and maddy finding out was anticlimactic af
Cassie displays a lot of BPD symptoms and as someone with that diagnosis, I empathize with her a lot. Although I’m not sure if the BPD symptoms were intentional or not
She doesn't have BPD she's just having a mental breakdown if she had BPD her symptoms would be portrayed more and consistently in the first season we should stop trying to label people with mental disorders if its not confirmed and the only thing confirmed in the show is that Cassie is depressed and on a mental spiral over an abusive man. We can safely assume its because of the trauma of her abortion and breakup. But we're not about to slap the BPD label onto her character just because we resonate with her outbursts. I too have BPD and CPTSD and I don't think she acts like she has BPD at all I think she is just a girl with daddy issues and repeated disappointments, and is not properly dealing with the fact that she had to abort her fetus and broke up with the man she thought she was in love with. She is desperate for male validation because she thinks it makes up for the fact that her father ran out on her family and she feels like no man will ever love her because her father didn't love her enough to stay and beat his addictions. And with every failed relationship she goes through it reiterates in her mind that she is in fact, unlovable. Not to mention she's had revenge porn released who knows how many times since it seems like every dude she gets with shares her nudes and their sexual exploitation with the group chat. She is just traumatized and refusing to deal with her issues and its not a consistent character trait so no she doesn't seem like she has BPD.
i'm still so disappointed about how rue and jules' relationship was handled. of course it was destined to fail from the start, but the way it failed was a missed opportunity. we could've gotten to see how addiction affects romance, dive into rue's codependency issues, and explore jules' trauma with her alcoholic mother. i know elliot was supposed to be there to show that jules falls back to male validation when she's insecure in her relationship (because rue was so high and neglectful), but to me his character came off as a man forced between the main queer girls in the show who made gross s3x jokes (elliot says rue and jules are playing "lesbian power games" with him during the truth or dare scene). just bad writing all around imo.
I liked Maddy babysitting,it adds another side to her when she’s not with Nate, giving her a new way of thinking especially since she wants to leave this town due to bad memories and unhealthy dynamics but how will she do with no credentials it’s called reality
My problem with season 2 is there is no clear timeline. And by episode 3 everyone knows Lexi is doing a play. Are we really to believe no one asked what the play is about? Why didn't Cassie ask? She knew before she moved in with Nate. Did they have no contact with each other after she moved in with Nate?
I’m not sure if I think Cassie was inconsistent. She has attachment issues and craves male validation. Nate knows Cassie well enough to know this and exploited that to get back at maddy. So Cassie falling for Nate the most manly man daddy in town kinda checks out
Cassie’s betrayal of Maddie was absolutely not inconsistent with her character. She puts male validation over everything, it was only a matter of time before it ruined her friendships. Like, I don’t know how people thought she was some type of girl boss who would put Maddie before everyone bc it was never who she was
And why is Cassie suddenly attracted to this guy he didn't give two shits about? She didn't even seem to like him all that much before. He doesn't woo her, chase after her, or even give her a sliver of affection. They fuck one time and she's in love. She's altering her personality in ways we've never seen her do. When have we ever seen her so willingly submit to a man like this? Atleast with previous boyfriends she showed some resistance or some signs that she only did it because they kept asking her to. The "daddy issues" excuse doesn't hold up very well when you remember how much Daniel tried charming her yet she still wasn't seriously interested in starting anything with him
@@gracekang2161 Cassie was in a very emotionally vulnerable place. She just got out of relationship her abortion. She craved connection with someone. Anyone and Nate was there. It probably could’ve been anyone but it was Nate
With Jules in season 1, her relationship with femininity, the whole thing with her mom, then Nate, being blackmailed and giving a false confession with no consequences whatsoever - TYLER'S STILL IN PRISON HELLO?? It felt like there was so much but somehow in s2 there was nothing. nada
As someone who relates to Kat, from name to life story, I was actually devastated Kat is gone now. It was really cool to see someone who grew up like me with my issues represented on TV
I personally feel quite bad because i know Im maybe supposed to hate her but i love Cassie because i relate to her emotional dependency and childhood sa. I liked her more this season because it was a more raw and truthful portrayal. I've actually had plenty of people calling me a bitch and even more for this online. I think Maddy is pretty agressive and manipulative sometimes and people glorify it a lot. Don't get me wrong i like her confidence and think shes really strong but i think people praising her for those things is problematic. I love Rue because i relate to her anxiety\depression. It really bothered me this season how many people on private forums were trying to cancel Jacob elordi for the gun scene. I think hes a great actor and also think hes seems really lovely in real life. I lotes the Euphoria fandom before tiktok. They understood the issues and had emphaty for the characters. But now theres a lot of people who only care about superficial things. Great vídeo!!😁
thank you! i totally agree that the characters are quite nuanced. to me, i don't think we're supposed to hate or glorify any of these characters, but instead, try to understand why they do what they do. everyone has a lot of layers 💜
I think you're glamorizing sadness and that's why you can't relate to maddy because she never has a tender moment and her trauma is not showcased like cassie or rue. I think perhaps to understand that because you've been through alot does not give your right to act a certain way, you must be on the receiving end
If Nate is all the sudden into Cassie because she’s in this very vulnerable and dark place and he realized consciously or subconsciously that he can use that to his advantage that’s fine and in line with his character and men like him. But the writers just have to make that clear to us! It’s crazy when the viewers’ headcanons of all these characters’ motivations are 100x more satisfying than what we’re actually given.
I remember hearing a rumour that Hunter was really confused why Dominic’s character had to meddle in Jules and rue’s relationship. Like it’s so random and there is no reason why Elliot would meddle.
Euphoria is hands down one of my favourite shows, but my biggest problem between season 1 and 2 is that Sam Levinson seems to act like the characters went through 2.5 years of development between the seasons instead of like a few weeks. There was barely any time passed for all of the characters to change so drastically
I never really got into Eurpohira but I love your content. Especially this video. The way you explained-and showed things was so amazing. It kept me interested throughout and that lately has been very rare for me. Loved it all and hope you continue with content like this. P.S yes I made it that far 💕✨💐
okay this is the sweetest message thank you! 🤗literally so happy you got to the end. i genuinely didn't know if people would since i usually make very short videos. i'm def hoping to make more in the future and this is very motivating !
my interpretation of rue’s drug dealing story line was that she wasn’t intending on selling any of the drugs at all but just taking them to eventually OD and end her life
The sad part is is that Jules is a good person and they made her seem like she isn't... It would be one thing to make her the villain from the start or show a clear progression as to why she's doing the things she's doing but it's another thing to just suddenly make a good character do something bad for no reason
Idk personally I feel like jules was always self- centered, she knew all Season 1 that rue was in love with her, like when she kissed her, and instead of addressing it she kept leading her on while also talking about tyler and then the other girl I forgot the name, she didn’t care to talk about other people in front of rue even when it was obvious what rue was feeling,I feel like she liked rue’s attention but she didn’t liked her enough to make it a thing, that’s why she left her so easily at the end of S1, the reason she looked more into rue in S2 was because rue was learning to live without her (makes sense because she abandoned her in her lowest) so the lack of attention made her want to have it again, even tho she really doesn’t like her because the moment they are together she realized rue doesn’t really attract her sexually, so to me it wasn’t inconsistent for her to to cheat
@@mts9687 she didn’t leave rue easily. her leaving was the result of months of traumatising stuff happening to her and building up, i honestly don’t think she would have even wanted to go if it wasn’t for all the pressure she was under/stuff she went through.
She was always selfish and only loyal to whoever gave her most attention and when that wasn't good enough she went to the next best source of attention. She is not a good person just because she has issues and you feel bad for her. She is also not ONLY bad of course, but she really has to work on how she treats people before she could be called a good person imo.
Would just like to say, I never watched Euphoria, I was planning to when Season Two came out and I just ended up watching only clips from that season on TikTok. Not only has this video made me wanna watch all of Euphoria properly but it was completely entertaining and engaging for someone who just enjoys your analytical content and has no clue about the show (other than there a pretty women in it
wow thank you ! this really means so much :') if you enjoyed this, i def would recommend watching both season to get the full picture (though it does have a lot of rated R content, just FYI). you'll get a better sense of what all the characters went through (there's def a few things i didn't mention here). but i'm so glad you found this interesting regardless ! 🤗
i feel like we should have finished the stories from season 1 like Maddy and nates toxicity, the aftermath of cassie's abortion, what's going on with McKay in college, Nate and Jules lowkey having feelings for each other, Kat trying to figure out who she is etc
I'm sorry did you just say that this was your first video?! okay I'm actually shocked-- this was so well made and thought out like I thoroughly enjoyed this. amazing work!
Something I noticed about Cassie was it seemed like she developed these confusing emotions for Maddy, and she read that as wanting to be her instead of wanting to be with her.
the Cassie-Nate thing was still solid because she ticks all his boxes, fits all his criteria, but he can’t be bothered to like her beyond sex. It also made sense to me that Cassie would become obsessed with winning a guy who isn’t even interested in her beyond sexual favors. Nate ticks all her boxes too, he embodies all of her moral misconceptions about men, making him the « perfect man for her» in a way
one thing that didn't have this season was Rue fantasizing she did that a lot in season 1 like the time she got a tattoo written "rules" and talking to the meds among others
omg thank you Parker!! I so appreciate your support from the beginning of my channel !! 😭I hope to make more videos like this in the future if people are interested 💜
How do Maddy and Cassie have a strong friendship in season one? They have one scene on carnival where they are both on drugs, besides that, there’s zero connection. Maddy and Kat’s relationship is way more believable, we know their backstory and can guess why they’re friends in the first place.
I feel like there should have been another season in between 1 and 2. The problem with how characters developed in season 2 seems to be the fact that sam forgot it’s only been 1 month in between both seasons, so most of the things that happens in season 2 don’t make sense because they don’t fit with what happened in the first one. I agree with your point of view of them all, and the direction is probably not too bad, the main problem is that all doubts from season 1 weren’t solved, and in “one month” the characters took a whole different narrative.
you put so much into words that i couldn’t. i went back and watched them simultaneously (s1e1, then s2e1, repeating pattern) and found so much of the same
I honestly viewed Elliot as the male version of Rue and that’s what attracted rue to him essentially. It’s obvious that Rue has narcissistic tendencies, & the aspects she likes were actually aspects she didn’t realise she liked about herself. Or perhaps he had qualities she wished she didn’t lack so he made up for what she was missing. I also think that’s why Jules was attracted to Elliot because he’s basically Rue just without the baggage & is male. The & Elliot meeting in the laundry to both do drugs is a big indicator that he is basically another version of Rue.
What's really dumb is how Maddy kept getting away with assault. All the banging heads against lockers, windows, the hand-drying thingie, and now Cassie. Don't those girls have parents? How the fuck did they not press charges? As much as I like her I think she needs to face *some* consequences at least.
Yes also it's labelled as badass and so cool like I love her too but why was everyone mad on twitter that she didn't beat up cassie like she should have😭
Mm honestly, it’s pretty realistic. In my high school, there weren’t really people who got in actual trouble other then like in school suspension or just temp suspension( if a teacher saw or got told). I mean if a family did press charges, it had to be like a bad ass beat down. But like if you got your ass whooped, you stayed away until you got better :/ and sometimes the parents get involved in their own way, but I mean, not really.
I think Nate started to be into Cassie bc she reminds him of Jules and since cassie's a biological woman, he can be perceived as straight in his mind. but we see time and time again he always has Jules at the back of his mind until he couldn't help himself to be near her. when he gave back the disc I believe he did that just so he had a reason to talk to her or be near her after she distance herself away from him. not because he generally wanted to do the right thing I think he fell in love with the person but since the world is very judgemental about your body type and race and looks that the he can't express his love for her and it leads to internal hatred for not being able to be himself and so he puts out toxic energy bc he's unhappy at least when it comes to his romantical issues for he has other issues more than that. Jules I believe fell in love with shyboy(Nate) and was hurt when it wasn't real but still had lingering feelings that caused her to leave but she eventually came back she tries to cover up that wound with rue but when Elliott came around he could fulfill the sexual urges that rue just unfortunately can't leading( at least that is what I think and why Jules cheated, bc she didn't know rue was on drugs. But when she talked to Nate again and said same too to what she felt being real and looked back I believe she still in love with him but now that shes friends with Maddy that can't never be seeing how things happened with Cassie.
@@Pleunpleun I guess that's a matter of opinion I think he still would be considered straight.bc I do aknowledge her as female but ig some probably do not and he probably hasn't excepted himself to the possibility of being on the spectrum.
I mean I don't think Rue was trying to become a drug dealer, but instead she just wanted to find a way to do drugs for free. She was planning on doing all the drugs and then killing herself, which I think actually is quite consistent
THANK YOU FOR THIS !!!! I am so passionate about Rue and Jules specifically and how much Sam Levinson RUINED BOTH OF THEM. He also ruined Kat sooo much. Cassie is also a completely different character in season 2 I dont care what anyone says. I also don't like that season 2 felt like the Cassie show. Like Sam didn't show Cassie's inner turmoil well to even make the audience feel any sympathy for her. He didn't give any insight on what Jules was thinking or feeling throughout the season especially after she randomly got with Eliott... we barely see her again.
Completely agree with everything you said about every character you mentioned. It feels like people are either blindly defending all of these character actions or blindly hating the characters for writing choices that makes zero sense.
Exactly I hate how Cassie is just an irredeemable villain. It was not true to her character and just boring to watch bc the drama surrounding Cassie felt SO cheap and poorly executed. Maybe if she had sex with Nate once or something and tried to change that would make sense for Cassie, but doubling down and making Cassie completely unlikable made the plot instantly boring
@@gracekang2161 thank you!! This is what I’ve been saying to people, how can you actually hate Jules or Kat? Their season 2 actions made very little sense to me and felt so forced and random. Why would Kat suddenly treat Ethan so poorly after her growth at the end of season 1??? Things really changed THAT much in the span of 3 weeks!! The way Kat broke up with Ethan was so dumb and unnecessary why even break them up?? Kat barely had any screentime anyways why not just make them a happy couple in the background.. & jules’ actions was so backwards where she left off in her special episode - so I can’t even be mad at the characters I’m moreso upset with the WRITING
@@epicgamer8117 literally!! Season 2 Cassie is NOT the Cassie we are introduced to in season 1. I don’t care how many ppl claim that Cassie becoming like that makes sense…. It really does not - maybe if it was led up to better and done in a way where we can properly see what Cassie was thinking but there’s no mention of her abortion, McKay is just gone, there’s no mention of Daniel, he’s just gone. She’s randomly forced to be with Nate - which makes NO SENSE for either of their characters. Nate was DISGUSTED by Cassie because of how she was seen and carried herself, and Cassie knew how badly Nate talked about her & how he treated Maddy. Ugh It’s so annoying
I loved season 1 of Euphoria and was so excited for season 2 but I still haven't even finished watching it. It's just.. not the same and watching this reminded me how good and interesting season 1 was
Side note, this is your first TH-cam video?? This was so well done, and you did an excellent job, breaking down each character season to season! I’m very excited to hear your thoughts on season three 🥰
it was quite upsetting that mckay wasn’t in season 2, i completely understand where the actor was coming from (i’m sorry i don’t know his name) where the show was extremely graphic, but his character was important to the show and it would be really cool to see where his character went.
I watched until the end. I still haven’t even watched the show yet 😅 Awesome commentary, really broke down concepts and themes that makes the show more relatable
this is very different content for me, as i usually just analyze the makeup and costumes (which I still love), and this is more on my overall thoughts, but I hope you enjoy! 💜which character do you think lost the most potential this season ?

I was floored when it was revealed Maddy was originally supposed to give the disc to Jules in interviews. That would’ve been such a good direction and STILL could’ve had drama to play off of
I would’ve loved for Maddy to find the disc and the photos and give them to Jules, only for the latter to suggest they go to the police with the disc. (I imagine Nate would have deleted the photos from his phone.)
reading that set my chest aflame! so i didn’t have to watch an attempted murder scene we could’ve just had a normal ish exchange of dangerous info
i don’t think rue ever developed a crush on elliot, and only liked him because he enabled her addiction.
jules was definitely projecting her own feelings about elliot onto rue; in my opinion anyways
you said exactly what i've been thinking this whole time thank you
i agree that's what i thought too
I agree! If anything she maybe tight of him as another friend, but nothing romantic. Jules felt guilty about her feelings and tried to turn it around on Rue
yeah i was so weirded out when the creator of the video said that Rue had a 'crush'' on elliot? wtf?
I can honestly see that
Im really pissed they ruined Cassie and Maddy's friendship over NATE.
@Ks exactly like how did it downgrade so much.
especially considering how cassie disliked nate in season one. it was obvious when he was picking on her during the carnival in front of mckay.
idk i mean maddy and cassie's friendship was kind of toxic in the first season..? like cassie brought up maddy saying that nate was gay or bi or whatever and maddy threatened to "end" cassie,, i just think their friendship seemed a little fake, and (to me) maddy clearly trusted kat more (she called her instead of cassie when all that drama with nate went down)
@sunsxt that’s usually how it goes in high school tho especially with the popular kids
and had that random zero sense Nate and Jules sense
YES! This is what I have been thinking!!
Such an intelligent perspective!
Is it like the Menedez brothers case? I don't mean to insert an actual tragic sexual abuse but it reminded me of it
@@allluvin7977 not at all
I honestly feel really bad for Hunter.
Yesss exactly!
She got hate for what Jules did? Ridiculous
Why did she get hate?
I was extremely unconfortable on how much she exposed her sister in her own play and everybody thought that was okay... repeating her embarrassing MDMA/carrossel moment in front of her school is just cruel.
i think so too! cassie & nate just happen so suddenly. we def needed more than a crazy car ride and a chase through a construction site :')
They did show Cassie's depression but not a lot of screen time because it would be like repeating episode 7 of season 1 imo
There was absolutely no need for Elliot. He literally just ruined every characters development to fit him into the story he was so beyond unnecessary.
@@Lunabyes no way omg…why did they even add him then? He literally did nothing but waste screentime?? What a dumbfuck move

i agree i love dominic but i think the season would have been the same even without elliot, like rue was already doing drugs she didn't need a friend to do it with her and jules could have cheated with any other character, maybe they should have bring the girl from s1 the only thing i can think of is telling that rue had the suitcase but fez could have done that
Can we talk about the fact that Mckay was literally assaulted and they never spoke of it again? Like um... what?

It’s bc he wasn’t vaccinated and could not be on set. Unfortunately he could only do limited scenes (the party scene).
@@bhynh
Wow, I had no idea. I still feel like they could've gave some closure or info to his character/story though 😔
That was horrific. Like wtf
He also assaulted cassie in the bedroom.
Hell, at the end of season 1 at the formal, Nate verbally abused Maddy in front of Cassie and Lexi and called her a 'c*nt' and was very aggressive with her. dont make excuses. cassie knew
YES
I think it comes down to the fact that Cassie may have not recognized that it was abuse. Nobody can excuse physical abuse but the way Cassie was written and her naivety shows that she probably didn’t even see that it was in-fact verbal abuse. I think her view of love is very warped and maybe that’s why her and Maddie were both attracted to Nate in some form. She probably somehow glamorized Nate and Maddie’s relationship as well. Either way it was horrible what she did even without the abuse angle.
@@tailynbarbosa511 that girl is not stupid she literally knew it was abuse I need you guys to stop defending her like this

Yeah it seems that way. The scene with Cassie in the bathroom and flowers was fucking boring like I rlly don’t care
The worst part is that they could have had an awesome story with cool cinematography. Like, these two things aren’t mutually exclusive, lol
The visual aesthetic they STOLE from ✨Petra Collins✨
Sometimes it works, sometimes you don’t wanna think, just look at pretty aesthetics. But it’s so much better when there’s an overarching plot that actually encapsulates you.
Thank you for bringing up Jules and Rue not going to Maddy’s party, I thought that was odd too.

Omg did you see how he got into Mckays face at that party…or when he would repeatedly have those horror dreams about his dad SA him, when they talked about the tapes he found. The constant daydreams of Jule. Sure there’s less of that in S2 but it’s not completely dropped.
Thats so true 😭
Yea idk about that, seems more like he just has trauma around men that he was near incapable of diving into
@Ks The writer’s can make character question their sexuality without actually “making” them gay.
In S1 there was that one guy who told her no one would ever love her for more than her body and there’s the whole thing with her dad leaving her- it’s just not consistent with her personality to be acting the way she did but i think there are justifications within her character for the acts she commits but not for the way she justifies them
You literally didn't get we are seeing her mental breakdown through the whole season 2.
I just feel like the entire plot/theme of this season should've been "actions have consequences"
Rue: downwards spiral out on the streets forced to overcome her addiction all alone.

For real! Hollywood needs to get over it’s fascination with teenagers. We need more college age shows.
I swear I thought this too. They should’ve been college students
real. it could’ve been a trashy community college or a smaller scale university where they’re all freshman (maybe all knew each other in high school, like a really small uni… i don’t think any of them would really be in big universities or wouldn’t right away at least) and living with their parents or in dumpy apartments. basically a college without dorms. but i could see a college with dorms also working, but it seems they like the close aspect of high school and i think a small college or university could work for that. some of the people, especially in season 2, rarely are seen with their parents so idk why living in an apartment with an npc roommate or a studio dorm or whatever would make any diff.
@@tsuki3752 I don’t understand how it would be taken place in a community college especially since most people in community college don’t speak to each other and are 50 years old 💀

Still a great analysis! I liked Rue and Lexie's storylines, but the rest really frustrated me
Your analysis is on point. I am a former H addict. Thank god allah and spongebob that I survived withdrawal and only struggle with coke anymore.
Tbh I don’t think Nate really loves Cassie for her personality. He loves the fact that she is feminine, cute, and most importantly how vulnerable she is. He’s attracted to how submissive and easily she can be manipulated into doing what he wants with her.
Cassie is everything Maddie wasn't while Maddie is everything Cassie wants to be
You encapsulated the idea of why Nate probably likes Cassie really well.
He, in my opinion, wasn't visibly desperate but he psychologically wanted to have at least one thing he could control effortlessly
lmao what personality
@@itsthevervelol
He's also using her as a replacement for Jules
YESS exactly what i thought
This is an amazing philosophy.
this comment is AMAZING. im liking both bc its amazing, and the fact that the comment likes are currently at 419.
Yesss Cassie to him really is a more socially acceptable version of Jules aka cis, straight, and will do what he wants. Aside from Nate’s obvious transphobia I think Jules knows herself more than Cassie and won’t take Nate’s shit (I mean she did pull a knife on him)
what do you think about maddy and nate’s relationship ?
@@iris-xo Lol I'm not wrong, there's no such thing as a wrong opinion
You think Jules sleeping with Anna and telling Rue about it knowing how Rue feels about her isn't sus then idk what to tell you. It's not hard to love Rue because she's an addict,it's hard for Jules to fully commit to Rue because she has mommy issues
Go watch the special episode again👍🏽

This show is going to be the new riverdale. Starts off good and slowly gets worse before plummeting. This is what happens when a show relies on an attractive cast rather than good writing. They could make absolute garbage but be okay because the cast members are hot.

Makes perfect sense why she would had that job tbh, because she can do pretty much the bare minimum and it has great perks.
i agree, it actually felt like the perfect low maintenance job for her character
Lmao getting her kicked out of her babysitting job and having to do some actual work would’ve been great for character growth this season.

Idk how people like lexi in season 2 she literally releases everyones trauma without asking from them and her play was supposed to tell us about her but its all about other characters
It’s very easy when some have a “some people deserve to have their feelings hurt” line of thinking. And she did show Rue the play.
Agreed. She made so much trouble for people. The only plot line I liked of hers was her relationship with Rue.
As someone who has tried hard drugs and also has bipolar like rue I have been the patient X that jumps from the car and yeah that whole episode of rues pov was so incredibly accurate

This would have been so much better and consistent with where they claimed they were taking her character

That was a rumor. A very weird rumor. They are all friends.
7. idk, i'm still not over rue's narration at the end that implies that the rest of the school year could be completely off screen when half the characters are about to graduate and leave and the drug dealer issues/fez's fate weren't mentioned at all.
also hate what they did to jules and kat and how many plotlines just got totally wiped with no explanation. the show might as well take place on mars.
agreed with no 2 completely
@@loen1z Im happy to see I'm not the only one! Literally people have full on written novels about how I'm wrong on many of these points (biggest one is that I'm somehow victim blaming Maddie by standing up for Cassie...people be crazy)!
I literally agree with you on all points.
1. Cassie did something really wrong, but everyone hating on her blindly and cheering on Maddie while she is physically abusing her is so toxic
Agreed it's God awful now
Yep, and now we have the idol. Trash.

@@megamilk5792 yeah its so frustrating. maybe the actor was getting too old too fast? (as if realism was important in this show lol) really i think sam loves any chance he can get to traumatize and degrade his characters without the skills to properly show what he aftermath of that trauma would actually look like (for example what happened to maddie- going from looking near catatonic on her bed after what nate did to her to seeing her smirking and mocking cassie when she's walking down the hallway with nate literally the next time we see her). it felt like half of this show was cutaways and was almost nonlinear because of it- the play for example gave me just as many questions and new complaints than explanations of the past and how it effected the characters. season 1 was wasn't perfect but it was so so much more cohesive and made sense and felt fully formed. a lot of this season felt like the worst parts of UK skins, degrassi and s1 of euphoria combined. mess.

I can’t remember the last time I sat and watched an hour long TH-cam video in one sitting. This was really well done!
wow thank you !! this means a lot 💜 so glad you found it interesting 🥰
I don’t recall the video stating that his actions are excusable due to his backstory
totally agree.
Showing up to work late is a carbon copy of Nate…
For maddies bday party I think Jules being friends with Kat would've been the only reason she's there. While the girls intreact with each other the main friend group is Cassie ,Maddie, BB and Kat. Not all of them plus Jules and Rue. Rues really only somewhat friends with Lexi. They're not all close so they wouldn't all be at the party.
Yeah I don’t get why ppl were confused they weren’t there honestly
for me, season 2 felt like a reality show rather than a cohesive story
i was willing to accept rue’s stupid drug dealer idea since it was pretty clear she was manic, and in a state like that people won’t be consistent with their own personality. my issue with it was just that it went nowhere. like is she really not gonna face any consequences for the amount of money she owes that lady??
After Lori gives her the heroine rue blacks out and wakes up in a room with multiple needle marks on her arm while shes locked in a room. Lori lied about not having anything but heroine in order to trap rue (you can see she has a suitcase full of other drugs) and keeps rue under the influence while letting men have sex with the her unconscious body. Hence the line "The good thing about being a woman is that you always have something people want." and the other line about selling her to some real bad people.
She has daddy issues too, so those need to be looked at as well... in therapy.

@@jessica-uj4bw Your thoughts?
With Maddy too it’s like Lexi didn’t even ask her to put in the issues with her family, like maybe it’s not a big deal, but from what we know about maddy she doesn’t like being vulnerable, or it seems that way. now im not trying to hate in Lexis character, i still like her, i just don’t agree with her decision to do that like a lot of Lexi fans do. okay now onto kat, i’m disappointed this season with kats character in general, and i know that’s because of the whole Sam and Barbie thing, but everything just seems so
unexpected? like for just more drama they wanted to include issues w kat and ethan, or it’s like they didn’t know what to do now that they just threw away that storyline.
Although I’m not sure if the BPD symptoms were intentional or not
I probably would too if she didnt go for her best friends ex
@@gloriavences1458 that’s absolutely not out of question for someone with untreated BPD. trust me
What's BPD
@@rainbowshit borderline personality disorder
I’m convinced Elliot’s character was paid for to promote his music career
My jaw dropped at the end when u said this was your FIRST TH-cam VIDEO?? This is so well done! Very impressive for a first video.
I believe the timeline is Aug/Sept - to Dec and season 3 will be the second half of their senior year and last season in high-school.
Cassie didn't ask bc she doesn't fuckin care 😂
I’m not sure if I think Cassie was inconsistent. She has attachment issues and craves male validation. Nate knows Cassie well enough to know this and exploited that to get back at maddy. So Cassie falling for Nate the most manly man daddy in town kinda checks out
Thats true but it wasnt depicted well in the show
@@0912sooli oh it definitely could’ve been executed better but overall her characterization didn’t change that much.
It felt like there was so much but somehow in s2 there was nothing. nada
The costume designers were CARRYING the character development this season
When was cassie SA’d as a kid?
@@taetm8868 there's a scene with her old male relatives groping her when she hits puberty
I think you're glamorizing sadness and that's why you can't relate to maddy because she never has a tender moment and her trauma is not showcased like cassie or rue. I think perhaps to understand that because you've been through alot does not give your right to act a certain way, you must be on the receiving end
I'm also getting the feeling you are below 15.
This is a masterpiece to watch, your skills at editing and writing scripts are just phenomenal girl.
I thought Cassies character was gonna be on a completely different path given how reserved she was after her abortion.
The show went from "I wanted to tell a story" to "I just wanna put stuff together with no ryhtme or reason."
my interpretation of rue’s drug dealing story line was that she wasn’t intending on selling any of the drugs at all but just taking them to eventually OD and end her life
The sad part is is that Jules is a good person and they made her seem like she isn't... It would be one thing to make her the villain from the start or show a clear progression as to why she's doing the things she's doing but it's another thing to just suddenly make a good character do something bad for no reason
See this is what bothered me about what they did with Jules and people try to argue about it like it's not just incredibly terrible writing.

Nate ticks all her boxes too, he embodies all of her moral misconceptions about men, making him the « perfect man for her» in a way
This video was really amazing, I really liked jules in s1 but i was dissapointed in her for the exact reason you brought up so ty
it's a shame they didn't give her more of a thoughtful story this season :'( i really loved her too. she deserved more 😔
one thing that didn't have this season was Rue fantasizing she did that a lot in season 1 like the time she got a tattoo written "rules" and talking to the meds among others
There wAs fantasizing hello? There was that whole scene where her and jules are paintings/famous figures
I've said ot before and I'll say it again: YOUR SO UNDER RATED!!!!!
omg thank you Parker!! I so appreciate your support from the beginning of my channel !! 😭I hope to make more videos like this in the future if people are interested 💜
You’re*
I absolutely loved this. The character chapter intros you made were so beautiful and enchanting!! You are talented and this was so great to watch.
you put so much into words that i couldn’t. i went back and watched them simultaneously (s1e1, then s2e1, repeating pattern) and found so much of the same
I’m so happy you said something. They really destroyed Jules in the second season, she was hardly even the same character
My jaw dropped when you said this was your first youtube video! This was such a well put together deep dive. I cant wait to see what else you make! :)
Yes also it's labelled as badass and so cool like I love her too but why was everyone mad on twitter that she didn't beat up cassie like she should have😭
Wait wasn't most of that a montage in Cassie's head of what she thought might happen
@@ratumakae I think that was her remembering
Mm honestly, it’s pretty realistic. In my high school, there weren’t really people who got in actual trouble other then like in school suspension or just temp suspension( if a teacher saw or got told). I mean if a family did press charges, it had to be like a bad ass beat down. But like if you got your ass whooped, you stayed away until you got better :/ and sometimes the parents get involved in their own way, but I mean, not really.
@@hylia1824 I think in this case it was just lazy writing to invoke tension for the ''final beatdown''
Completely agree w Nate pursuing Cassie bc she reminded him of Jules.
He would be straight with Jules too. In his transphobic mind probably not, but in fact: yes.
@@Pleunpleun I guess that's a matter of opinion I think he still would be considered straight.bc I do aknowledge her as female but ig some probably do not and he probably hasn't excepted himself to the possibility of being on the spectrum.
@@NaerysTargaryen26 yeah I’m p sure he wouldn’t since he even considered at that part of horrible Lexi’s play as homophobic.
@@NaerysTargaryen26 I don't think it is a matter of opinion tho... Nate being with Jules would be a straight relationship.
Them killing off ash broke my heart. As a child he had so much potential
Ugh It’s so annoying

it was quite upsetting that mckay wasn’t in season 2, i completely understand where the actor was coming from (i’m sorry i don’t know his name) where the show was extremely graphic, but his character was important to the show and it would be really cool to see where his character went.
