      The funny thing is that these things have a headphone out and it's a mono out so plug that into a better speaker and it's actually decent enough

      @@GrumpyTy34er I've yet to see a really decent review for any of these sort of thing. All of them make the same mistake, imo, of not comparing like for like. It's like shitting on the lesser quality of mp3 sound vs a good vinyl set-up, and so dismissing the idea of an mp3 player entirely, losing out on the option of having music no the go when a vinyl set-up just isn't an option. Baby/Bathwater.

    like 5 years ago my mom gave that fender for christmass, I like it because it looks cool and used more as a decoration because of how crap it sounds. I moved to another country to study and dont have money for an amp and that little fender is the only thing I could take with me other than the guitar, so basically im still playing thanks to that toy fender, it found its pourpose and Im happy with it even though it sounds very bad. Thanks mom!

      As a fellow owner of a blackstar fly 3, I gotta say that this is a rather fair representation, actually. Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome little box for when you just wanna plug into something quickly and jam out, and it's waaaaaay better than the other mini amps. Hell, I'd say that it's even better than that old 10w Ibanez amp I used to have when I just started out. However, it does seem like the katana mini is just doing it somewhat better. I'll have to try one for myself and compare the two, just for fun.

    • @Fektthis
      @Fektthis 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      not quite twice. Boss Katana Mini 99 usd. Blackstar Fly 3 60 usd. Although, for 99 bucks you can buy several small combo amps all of which would probably be better for small room practicing. Line6 Spider 15 or even a Blackstar CoreID 10

  • @Quellification
    @Quellification 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I have a blackstar fly 3 and as a uni student who travells back and forth from home to uni in a different city, blackstar is so good. the tones I'm getting out of it are magnificent. i put a boss ds1 petal before it and put the gain around 9-10 o'clock and it's magnificent. only downside is, you can't have a sound without giving it a bit gain.

    I ended up buying a Katana Mini, and I am quite happy with it. Small, versatile, relatively cheap, perfect for late night bedroom practice. I hesitated between the Katana Mini and the Katana 50 Combo, the Mini won in the end, because I knew the 50 would've been wasted on me (Never ever would've used the extra power, or features)

  • @napalmhardcore

    I bought the Fly a few weeks back. I was aware of the Katana and had seen demos when I bought the Fly. While the Katana is undeniably better purely as a mini amp, certain key features drew me to the Blackstar instead.
    Once you add the extension cab to the Fly, not only do you get stereo delay (which is a cool effect), it will also double up as portable laptop/tablet/phone speakers with proper stereo separation. In situations where space is at a premium, I can leave the extension cab at home and just take the main unit.
    The problem I have with the Katana is its size. If I need something small and portable, the Fly is a good size. If I need more volume than the Fly can provide, I'd be looking for a larger amp than the Katana Mini. It sits smack bang in the middle of two different use case scenarios and I personally think it would be a compromise for each of them.

Throw a few pedals in my checked bag. It’s very portable and sounds amazing! Also, the batteries are still going strong. Just ordered a 6v power cable for like 13$ on Amazon

    14:10 Hey Lee, as an owner of the fly 3, if you do it right you can get the best damn clean tone there is!
    Volume = Full
    Gain = Half way between 8 and 9 o'clock
    EQ = Half (12 o'clock)
    OD = Off
    Delay Intensity = 10 o'clock
    Delay Time = Halfway between 2 and 3 o'clock
    I like the guitar for clean on neck pickup with tone on about 6 or 7

    Blackstar with the extension cab is what I'm listening to this vid on, plugged into my laptop. When you plug into the phono input, they make a great pair powered speaker..completely bypasses the pre, nice and clean line level. For jamming along with stuff on youtube, or itunes..brilliant. My most used amp by far....
