@Ben-fl6rf That's why it's a paradox it's a seemingly awful move but will ultimately be a cornerstone in your offense and lead you to win the game. If only Napoleon's awesome strategies weren't wasted on his incompetent and fumbling generals.
I just realized why his move was called the “Napoleon Ultra Paradox.” It would put both chat’s king and Napoleon’s king in checkmate, but in doing so neither king could take the other in conventional chess. But Napoleon isn’t playing by the rules. The move was both stupid and brilliant, a paradox.
I know it's three months old, but, think about it this way, Napoleon wanted the four pawns to surround his king, so technically by Napoleons rules, the king was taken by the pawn to the right of his king, and the room would've been taken out by the pawn above the king.
That technically means Doug, as his general and as the one who told him off and stopped him from taking that move, *_was_* actually at fault, meaning Napolean would have won his first chess game against twitch chat, if not for his incompetent general.
It's an amazing name, and if it didn't break the rules (no instant win), one of the pawns surrounding white's king would have taken back's King, ending the game instantly. A fitting name for what would have been a final decisive move where he surrounds himself with pawns, some of which would have been already taken.
It's the equivalent of a king walking up to the gates of an enemy keep with his squire in tow, then immediately skewering his unaware squire on his halberd and devouring the poor man alive.
his king really said "pawn, im sorry but this isnt working anymore. we are going to have to cut you off and fire you." *chops off the pawns head and throws the body into the incinerator*

There was a university that held a chess ai competition a couple of years ago. everybody spent hours trying to create the best possible bot, but when they put all of them in a competition, the one who ended on top just made random moves.
IIRC this is because they try to train AI on competetive gameplay so it always makes optimal moves, since AI can't recognize strategy or enemy moves but only recognizes what the theoretical best move would be it is incapable of knowing what the best response to a bad move is, it isn't trained on bad moves after all. That's how a complete newbie beat the AI that was famous for beating a GO-Master, they just quickly explained the rules to him and he made circles, no strategy or anything. The AI couldn't recognize the moves and kept playing ideally against an enemy who isn't.

I’m actually surprised the AI didn’t just bring pieces back. Often when ChatGPT plays chess it will just bring pieces back or add new pieces to capture another (or just make a random move and say that it’s checkmate)

It is likely more a reference to actual chess maneuvers like the Sicilian Defense or the King's Gambit. I believe the joke is the laymen would believe there are a lot of moves in chess like a combo list in mortal kombat, which can be deployed at any time. In reality chess maneuvers are just names of openings for the first 2 - 5 moves of the game.
@@ghostderazgriz You're possibly right, I play chess but I didn't mentally equate the names of chess openings with things like the Waterloo Whirlwind and the Corsican Cannibal because of how goofy they are, and the fact that he's naming single moves rather than a series of moves or board positions. It felt so theatrical and unrelated to openings that it didn't connect
In reality, the Napoleon Ultra Paradox was the best play ever. Let me explain. So, Napoleon did put his king into checkmate, however, by putting his pawns around both him and the enemy king, it leads into a true paradox. Both kings are in a checkmate, which means that the game cannot be won or lost by either of them, leading into a stalemate
It actually is a perfect move. It looks terrible on first glance, but if you pay close attention, there's actually no legal moves available to Twitch Chat that will capture Napoleon's King.
@@VeryPeeved I don't know if that's true. You can't make a move that leaves you in check, but are you "leaving yourself in check" if you've ended the game by taking the enemy king? Could be wrong, but as far as I know there's no rule on that because in normal play you can't take an enemy king.
For those who haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching the VOD that inspired this video. It was a battle for Europe between Napoleon and Twitch Chat. The first hour was them duking it out chess-style and it was incredible. Smoke approves!

the napoleon ultra paradox is basically napoleon coming into the future to exact revenge against his enemies but then when he wins it starts to destroy the fabric of time and space and reality and then it just keeps happeneing until napoleon kills himself to save the earth from the multiple iterations of him constantly trying to exact revenge. and then it puts twitch chats king in check and they block it with bishop
@@ashleyberkowitz8772It might not be; If you are in check your move must result in you getting out of check, you are not allowed to make a move that would leave your king to be captured (this does not apply to Napoleon as he can cheat) meaning that Chat’s only legal moves would be moving their own king out of check to G8 or G6, whereafter Napoleon could take Chat’s rook for free, and would have been left with a brunch of pawns ready to promote. However due to the incompetence of General Douglas, this did not come to be. The Napoleon Ultra Paradox would have won Napoleon the game if only his General knew the rules better.

Since Napoleon is Napoleon he could've tanken the rook with a pawn across the screen, unmating himself. P.D. whoever suggested to add move names automatically made this 200000 times funnier, also the editor omg
Napoleon cannot get out of a checkmate since chat wouldn't have any win condition otherwise. Also, he's cheating, the cheating moves don't count as normal moves.
My favorite thing about DouglasDoug is that each time there's a cut in the video you can kind of piece together what twitch chat was talking about ten seconds before
The AI is so good at naming shit, I often just give a brief description of something, and ask for names that fit a theme, and it spits out so many absolute banger names
We laid down some ground rules before the stream that didn't come up in the video. That he wasn't allowed to take the king directly was one. The others were that he wasn't allowed to ignore check (which came up) and finally that he wasn't allowed to cheat to get out of a checkmate (otherwise he could have teleported his pawn to take the rook on e1 or something)
Idk why they didn't include these, but it was mentioned at the beginning of the stream that Napoleon "can't directly take the king, since the win condition for chess is checkmate, not physically taking the king"
How magnanimous of Emperor Napoleon to allow chat to checkmate him. If he had wanted to, he could have teleported his King out of harm’s way, but he allowed them to enjoy this small victory. Truly a selfless general.
complete fever dream of a stream. I'm still a huge fan of chat constantly shouting "D:" every time napoleon named a new move, no matter how ineffectual the move was or silly the name is.
I love how most of his moves are kind of country related, and then theres "THE NAPOLEON ULTRA PARADOX" which sounds like an Ultimate attack from an Anime or Fighting game, even further juxtaposed by the fact that it puts him into checkmate

This is random but the longest someone has ever peed is 508 seconds or 8 minutes and 47 seconds
There was a university that held a chess ai competition a couple of years ago. everybody spent hours trying to create the best possible bot, but when they put all of them in a competition, the one who ended on top just made random moves.
😂
this reminds me when there was a poker ai competition and the winning ai was literally “if it’s my move, go all in” and it won
Reminds me of the Black Jack AI contest
Someone won by making a AI that always does one thing
All the other AIs panicked and folded
The lesson to learn from that is this:
If you are developing a competitive AI, don’t actually make an AI, make an edge case.

His genius is truly beyond his general's comprehension.
