I found this out after the fact, but using some silicone spray may help reduce the chance of it breaking, apply to the zipper, then with some wax on the zipper rail. Perhaps others can benefit from this tip.

I have stayed in my tent 2 weeks solid during the winter in pretty damn cold weather that most people wouldn’t dream of doing. It’s been through strong gales crazy heavy rain storms and snows to minus 15. I haven’t run into the problem you have shown here.I get what you are saying regarding the issue and my attention will be drawn to that now. The condensation does get pretty crazy inside if that fire is not roaring. during the really bad nights I keep the fire roaring and sleep in intervals of every hour to hour and a half. I also always open the tent from the bottom to top and I don’t use the top zipper to exit how you have. What I will say is that the stove jack is shite and if you get this tent invest in a rubber stove jack. When I set up first time the hole was to big around my stove and it pissed water into the tent 😂. It was a long night. Overall for use in the uk it does the job. I do think as you say though that the zips could do with upgrading and instead of 2 openings have just the one and maybe use 2 zips for one door. I do think at times though that the zips at the bottom tend to be under allot of strain hence why I open from the bottom first. Perhaps I may upgrade someday but I don’t fancy going to fabric due to its weight.

I had the same issue. Not designed for winter camping imo.

What temperature are you taking it down too, and how long are your trips, more specifically how much do you use your wood stove during your trips? Just curious.

Another factor to mention could be that different batches might be made of better materials. Often companies will put out a really good quality product for a few years before decreasing the quality and ride on that wave of it's previous batches success and reputation. I wonder if that's a factor?

Was debating on this tent - at the cost I was already thinking I should pack or make some wood pins - clothes pins to close the text with after the zipper derailed

Good call, i replaced the zipper with a button closure and two flaps, works a lot better now, also, I found this out after the fact, but using some silicone spray helps reduce the chance of it breaking, apply to the zipper with some wax on the zipper teeth

I did see a post on Facebook where a person had a broken zipper, it looks like he was able to get a replacement. I am not sure if it was an ice issue. I acquired this tent primarily for its waterproof qualities and generous interior space. It will serve as my preferred option for campsites where I am unable to bring along my teardrop trailer.

Just be really careful with those zippers. You notice ice forming on them, be super careful...

Well best bet if your still considering it is to purchase it and use it and find out what you may. But keep in mind the ice build up. If your not planning a longer stay than 2-3 days in -20 weather, you should be good

Such a huge emphasis on a broken zipper. Stuff happens. Deal with it.

    • @kskbushcrafter3414

Lol yeah, and I've since fixed the issue by making my own modifications. If you don't think your shelter should be 100% reliable while out in the bush at -30 then you have no business being out in the woods. Kind of guy we got to get a search party to go recover their frozen corpse out of the bush from.

I still don't believe that wax would have solved this issue. You wouldn't believe the amount of ice build up that occurs.
