- Casper was back to his normal self this week and was so much fun to ride! There were only three of us in the lesson and we were back to one of our usual instructors, so we went out into the field and Casper and I jumped some of our biggest ever jumps together! He was such a good boy and didn’t even bat an eyelid coming into some of the bigger ones, they were only somewhere between 2'6 - 2'9, but considering 6 weeks ago Casper would cat-leap anything bigger than a ground pole, he did a super job! It was also a lesson of firsts as we attempted our first ever walk to canter, which obviously wasn’t perfect, but I couldn’t even have dreamed of trying one on him a few weeks ago! We also jumped the gate for the first time together - Casper’s jumped the gate before when he first got here and was put through his paces, but that was quite a while ago so I wasn’t surprised when he had a little wiggle and a look coming into it for the first time, but he still jumped it despite not being sure and when I brought him round to it again he popped it with no problem - such an honest little pony!

Charlotte Lilac Haha yes! His trot's super now he's become more balanced and stopped rushing, his canter's still a little unbalanced and fast but it's so lovely when he decides to be brave and canter into the jumps! 😊 I'll take speedy & excited to be jumping over lazy/backing off any day! x

Very impressed with the walk to canter!! Good pony 😊 He hunted last winter so when I jumped the gate it was the thing he jumped the nicest as it was most natural to him but he's jumped quite a lot of poles since so he's probably more used to them now! x
ST Equestrian Yeah I was slightly surprised when he backed off it because he's never backed off anything else before, but you're right I think he's just got used to plain poles... Hadn't realised he's hunted! Sounds terrifying on such a green horse 🙈 x
ST Equestrian That would also explain why he's not bothered when he knocks a pole. I thought he'd scare himself the first time he caught one, but he literally didn't care at all 😂 might also explain why he likes bolting off when there are lots of other horses cantering around him too though 🙈 x

I find it so intresting to see the diffrent between swedish riding schools and british/american/idk where u from haha! But u sound really british. We would get slapped if we did not get on a fine line, and jump up in our paddock. You are lucky :p! But now I`m going to highschool with focus on only horses, and then college with only horse focus. But u guys seem so much on the ground, we are really hard trained and should do anything really good! Cant i come and visit, haha o-o

How big is Casper? And do you use fish eye lense on your camera?
Casper is 13.2hh. I don't use a fish eye lens, but because the lens so wide angled, it distorts the edges a bit :-)
Me and my horse always jumps in to canter from walking. For me it's pretty hard to do it from trot.
I could never tighten the girth when I'm on the saddle, though maybe it's because I ride western and girths are a big different on the two saddles

I have done walk to canter before and im only 11 years old its so easy
Well done :-) walk to canters usually depend on the horse as well as the rider - they can only be done if the horse first understands what you are asking. Young, green horses like Casper will struggle a lot more than more experienced horses because they are not as in tune to the cues from any rider. They are often also not strong or balanced enough to do an instant walk to canter each time x
