Omg a 15minute video! This is the best day of my life! Xxx I’d probably rather ride Callie because I’m tiny and would look pathetic on herbie and he seems a bit calmer 😂
I'd love to ride Herbie, but seeing that I only ever ride Iceland Ponys I would probably be horrible 😂 I am also very vocal when riding, both with naughty and nice Ponys, because I find mostly all of them are pretty responsive to a good growl :D
Sitting back slightly and sitting deeper in the saddle, and really using your seat to encourage him to keep going forward to the jumps, to encourage him to that way to using stronger, constant leg pressure, using your voice to make sounds the horse understands are serious, intense, encouraging, etc...these are a few ways to convey to a horse that yes, you mean business, you do really want them to jump that fence, and no, you're not going to let up until they do what you're asking them to, and then as soon as they do it, letting up, and rewarding them immediately by using your voice in a way you know they really like, touching them in a way that they really like, going on to do something you know they really enjoy doing, etc...is all it takes to get a horse to do something and to learn that doing it when you ask them to is the way to go, because they always like where they end up whenever they do so. All animals respond positively to things they like, including humans. Kindness, caring, appreciation, respect, all these things go far with other living creatures, and we would do well to learn this before or instead of learning how to use something that causes fear, pain, intimidation, etc...to get what we want regardless of the fact that these are negative things, and potentially, become even more so down the line, because it requires little effort and no skill on our part, and therefore, it's easy, the response we get is typically immediate, and often seems like what we want a horse to do although it occurs for negative reasons that can have even more negative ramifications down the line. I think it's wonderful that you used your voice, because you know it works particularly well with Callie, and stronger, more constant leg before doing anything else, such as using a crop on Callie, to get him to jump every fence you asked him to. He figured out very quickly that you meant business AND that he was rewarded for doing what you asked him to do.
Lauren McLain Thank you, I really appreciate your comment. It’s very easy to judge people’s techniques around horses, as everyone rides differently, and it’s especially easy to forget while flicking through TH-cam videos that the horses aren’t clones of each other. There are some horses I just wouldn’t bother using my voice with as it would be pointless, I would try something else I’ve found works instead. As you say, they each get their ‘special treatment’, whatever that may be, followed by a pat/scratch/‘good boy’/canter/whatever else they like as reward when they get it right :-)
Absolutely love Laura saying ‘You’ll be fine on him’ to Annalise before she got on Herbie 😂 I’ve ridden them both although never jumped either but I think I would most like to ride Herbie but in Callie size 😂 I always feel to small on Herbie but he is so much fun! x
ST Equestrian I know! I heard that when I was editing and thought oops...! 😅 Herbie in Callie size would actually be amazing, especially because I wouldn’t need a twist in my stirrups 😂 x
@@PonyCam how tall is callie and herbie.also you are such a good rider because herbie looks like a horse who likes to just go really fast when he jumps
I would ride Herbie because I would probably squish Callie. I went to Nunney International Horse Trials today and I got to see Mary King compete in the showjumping! (There was Showjumping, cross country and Dressage going on) William Fox-Pitt was there too! But unfortunately i didn't realise his name was in the programme to compete today until I got home, and we left after the class before his finished. Once again an amazing video! Keep up the good work and amazing riding! 💖
I just all of a sudden didn't watch your vids but then I watched this and 💭 thought to myself "why didn't I watch your videos" 😂😂😂. Your so talented at riding. ❤️❤️❤️😊😊👌
Callie is gorgeous. As much as I love then athletic horses, I also really love the horses that are stocky and with a cute face lol. Idk why but I love shire mixed with some sort of standard bred.
I‘d rather ride Herbie because i like horses who are a little bit faster and Callie seems incredibly chill and rather slow😂 Btw my own horse is a gelding named Callie🙆🏻♀️ But he‘s a few hands taller than the one you’re riding😁 But he’s also a bay, even though a little bit lighter in his coat color and overall more excited to jump (most of the times he gets overexcited and just starts to go through the course at full speed, but we‘re working on it)🤗 I really enjoy your videos and you‘re so kind to the ponies!☺️❤️
Loved the extra long video!! Qotd: I'd rather ride Callie, only because I prefer riding ponies/small horses, and I think I'd be overhorsed by Herbie XD
Just some suggestions, you could like a morning routine with the horses or something like that and tacking the horses and un tacking. Btw I love your channel!
I’d prefer Herbie because i love riding forward horses for some reason, but i am used to riding a 23yo dead in the sides fell pony too so i wouldnt mind either 😊
I use a Drift Ghost 4K (there's more info in the description box), and I have a helmet cam set up video here: th-cam.com/video/7Uirjt_H4e8/w-d-xo.html :-)
ella rewi Looks can be deceiving! 😂 When I swapped with the rider on board Callie in this lesson, Herbie (who was supposed to be safe & fun for her as she was a bit nervous) bolted her round the field for 5 minutes at full speed - not exactly his usual safe, schoolmaster self in this lesson either!! He was a fantastic horse but he definitely had a cheeky side! 🙈
I would ride herbie as he is the same size as Danny at my barn and he Is lovely but his canter is a full speed gallop round the arena but there we go lol. Also I'm pretty tall but there both nice My favs to ride would be magic or maverick
Herbie, I don't know why I'm short and Herbie looks big but I love the horse like Herbie, that jump that way (I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN😂😂) Ps: sorry if I make some mistakes I'm from Italy
I would ride Herbie. People think I'm really strange but I love a horse that is really forward and eager. But I also like Callie because he/she seems like a challenge
PonyCam wow haha that's really small! I'm nearly 5'8 and just about 14 😂 it's also really good that horses get used to different heights and builds of people, I think that's really important! xx
I'd rather ride Herbie because he looks so smooth and I'm also a little bit tall for my age (5'7 and 12) and I generally prefer bigger, smoother horses
Paige Montague Callie’s actually very fine boned, he’s a New Forest pony crossed with something very lightweight - it’s just his big fluffy mane that makes him look a bit like a cob! :-)
Herbie he reminds me of my 16.2 hand horse Ripley who is aged 16 and she's magic I have a stable next to my house so I can see her everyday! I would rather herbie bc he seems like my type (me not looking at the height) so ye (when I relized the height) so 2000 for Callie ye?😂💖ly
EquestrianMarie There’s no real need to put boots on when we’re only jumping a few small fences, in this instance they’d probably do more harm than good :-) x
I'm sorry I just had to say that you make them canter almost right before they jump the jump which seems pretty difficult for them to do. I recommend starting up the canter earlier and before the horse sees the jump. That way you just think about maintaining a canter and getting them over the jump instead of worrying about getting a canter and getting them over the jump. The first horse you rode you rode very well though. Good job.
sue1109 I cantered in plenty of time to all of these jumps given the fence height and experience of the horses, however I was not letting either of them canter down the hill or round the tight corners to stop them slipping on the longer grass, which is why I don’t give them a ‘run up’ to some of the jumps in canter. The first horse is an incredibly experienced ex eventer and knows his job well enough to pick his own stride and canter where he thinks is appropriate in front of the fence, even if you actually ask him to canter much earlier (which happened a couple of times here). The second horse has such a short stride that he can easily get himself out of trouble if we happened to be on a bad canter stride in front of the fence, but as he has a habit of bolting you round in the canter and then running out, and it was my ‘job’ to get him over every jump this lesson, I wanted to make sure I was lined up to each fence steadily and correctly before asking the horse to jump it. :-)
really love your channel! x
I'd rather ride herbie, because I'm really tall and callie seems pretty small for me. Both seem fun to ride though
I miss these horses so much😕 rest in peace herbie❤️
Herbie didn’t die?
I know the struggles with twisting the the striups leathers 😅😅
Wherefore is that?

Lauren McLain she knows how to ride than you very much
@@fshowjumping1827 She wasn't telling her how to ride, she was commending her on how she rode the horses according to their specific needs :)

these vids get really good i love horses keep up the good work

Callie , because I like smaller horses and he seems like a good challenge but all together I love them both💗

I absolutely love those stirrup leathers! what are they!?
The people who disliked this video doesn't have any respect on horse's💔
I agreeeeeeeeee
Im not sure who I'd prefer to ride but I'm used to riding horses that are a bit more stocky (if that makes sense) so probably Callie.
loved the long video! i think i'd like to ride herbie more :) xx

Sienna Thomas Thanks you! These aren’t my own horses, this is a riding school so unfortunately things like morning routines aren’t really possible x
I love your channel! That’s fine, you are great at it and I love how you talk to your horses. Love you
What cam do u use or recomment for not to much money
What saddle do You use? Im just a begginner
I’d prefer Herbie because i love riding forward horses for some reason, but i am used to riding a 23yo dead in the sides fell pony too so i wouldnt mind either 😊
I ride Callie a lot, so I’d really like to try herbie☺️
What camera do you use? And can you do a camera set-up vid? Thanks!! (Great vids)

PonyCam great thank you so much!!!
I’d happily ride either tbh. I’m going to miss Herbie videos though. Poor boy:(
He died
I dint put wraps in my stirrups
I would ride either horse! I'm used to riding lots of different horses, not just my two horses, so I'll ride anything!
Haha this was not the same Herbie I watched on your channel when you went xc schooling !
ella rewi Looks can be deceiving! 😂 When I swapped with the rider on board Callie in this lesson, Herbie (who was supposed to be safe & fun for her as she was a bit nervous) bolted her round the field for 5 minutes at full speed - not exactly his usual safe, schoolmaster self in this lesson either!! Herbie looks super bouncy and then Callie looks like I could control him better as he’s a bit shorter and I’m tiny lol
I know about those cheeky ponies that would test younger riders out in our riding school. I used have to do the same. 😑😏
I l♡ve horses!I would ride every single horse in the world if i could!Im currently riding at Legacy Saddlebreds
Did Herbi have a sore nose because it looked sore
Julie Logan Yes he’d managed to scrape it on something, but he had lots of antiseptic cream put on it and it healed nicely 😊
I'd rather ride herbie because callie has small strides and I can't canter or sit trot with small strides because it kills my back 😂😭
I would ride herbie as he is the same size as Danny at my barn and he Is lovely but his canter is a full speed gallop round the arena but there we go lol. Also I'm pretty tall but there both nice
My favs to ride would be magic or maverick
ponies! just had my lesson. has to role my stirups leathers up twice!
Herbie, I don't know why I'm short and Herbie looks big but I love the horse like Herbie, that jump that way (I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN😂😂)
Ps: sorry if I make some mistakes I'm from Italy
Id ride herbie because i love bigger horses💕 I normally ride horses between 16-16.5 but atm im riding a 14.1 pony:p
I would ride Herbie. People think I'm really strange but I love a horse that is really forward and eager. But I also like Callie because he/she seems like a challenge
Lots of people like forward horses, including me.
😍😍
How tall are you? Because on your Instagram photos on Herbie you look tiny on him 😂. Also I would prefer to ride Herbie cos he looks so nice! 💕xx
Lucy I’m a little over 5’1 - Herbie is definitely too big for me! But he’s started to get more used to being ridden by the new smaller human 😂 xx
PonyCam wow haha that's really small! I'm nearly 5'8 and just about 14 😂 it's also really good that horses get used to different heights and builds of people, I think that's really important! xx
Loved the video! And I’m gonna like my own comment cause nobody does
I'd rather ride Herbie because he looks so smooth and I'm also a little bit tall for my age (5'7 and 12) and I generally prefer bigger, smoother horses
Also, I would rather ride Callie because he seems like he might be a Clydesdale X, and I find I click a lot better with broad horses :)
Paige Montague Callie’s actually very fine boned, he’s a New Forest pony crossed with something very lightweight - it’s just his big fluffy mane that makes him look a bit like a cob! :-)
Probably Herbie because even though I am quite short (5"3) I still like to ride bigger horses xx
😍😍😍😍
Callie because I prefers horses that need more encouragement and more chilled out also because Herbie would be way to big for me
I'd ride Herbie , as he looks very forward .
As cute as callie sounds, herbie, Callie is too small😂
just a little tip I would find it more interesting if you added music to your videos.
A lot of people tell me they like to hear what I'm saying to the horse and what my instructor is telling me, so I usually don't use music.
The struggles of having to wrap your stirrups to fit your leg length 😂😂
Herbie cuz I like tall stallions there always sweeties and pony cam do yu ever go to Ireland cuz I'd love to meets you
Herbie he reminds me of my 16.2 hand horse Ripley who is aged 16 and she's magic I have a stable next to my house so I can see her everyday! I would rather herbie bc he seems like my type (me not looking at the height) so ye (when I relized the height) so 2000 for Callie ye?😂💖ly
My real name is Callie
I wish I could jump
I would rather ride Herbie as I like riding bigger horses❤️🐴
Callie : 14.3 is like my ideal height lol
Wow boží
i always think you’re calling Callie “cow” bc of your accent but you’re calling him “cal”😂
😂
Don't forget to put boots on them to protect there legs when jumping. :)
EquestrianMarie There’s no real need to put boots on when we’re only jumping a few small fences, in this instance they’d probably do more harm than good :-) x
I would rather ride Herbie because I don't like to have to push a horse.
CALLIE IS A GIRLS NAME🦄
Haha I know, but I think this Callie would disagree with you! 😄
one more like plz (on da video)
first to likeeeeeeeeee >:D

Ah, okay. I guess I was just taught differently. I respect it, though.

By the way you are such an amazing rider
