    I've just ordered my Pro-ject T1. Eagerly awaiting arriving. As a young one, my father handed over his turntable (rotel) along with Rotel amplifier. Aiwa tape deck and JVC tuner.
    Why the hectic I opted for a Crosley Suitcase as my first adult choice escapes me.
    After seeing product suggestions of Pro-Ject, I instantly aimed at upgrade. Unfortunately, my missus decided to surprise me with a Jam turntable and speakers for a Christmas gift.
    Instantly recognising the cheap Crosley mechanism and dreaded built in speakers, I knew that I could not make regular use of this set up. The Jam Bluetooth active speakers are okay, but have too much bass.
    I have waited 3 year before taking my step towards purchase of T1, as not to offend my wife. My vinyl collection is almost at 100 count, and 80% or more have yet to have been played as fear of damage to quality.
    Finally, I start my own adult build, will never meet my late father's Delphi Oracle with Kef speakers set up, but I aim to build an impressive entry-mid level sound system to enjoy.

    Treated myself to one of these turntables recently, love the basic design but found a couple of problems using it. The on/off switch is underneath and using it will push the turntable to one side. Lifting the cover will lift the front of the turntable. I've heard that by using 3 mounting feet is ideal, but i found it made the table very unstable. Most of these issues can be solved by using a heavier or better quality wood for the turntable carcase.

      which one are you talking about?

    • @koosfockens1707
      @koosfockens1707 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      how do you manage that? I admit the switch on my (carbon Evo) is stiff, but i don't just use a finger on the switch my thumb is on the top of the plinth so the table doesn't move. I don't have any issues lifting the cover so your must either be very stiff, or you're applying more force. Stability issues I don't have either unless you lean on the rear of the table where the single leg is. 3 legs is theoretically the most stable design, it will sit on any surface no matter how uneven that surface is, which is why you see this employed on many high end tables, and many barstools too ;-)

    • @theseob
      @theseob ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with the lifting of the cover and the stiff hinges also occurred on my essential 3. But it gets better after time. I really love my essential 3. Only issue i really had is that it took me a while to figure out that the usb output would only work if u used thr built in pre-amp. Since i connect my table to an old amp with phono in, i had switched the onboard pre-amp off. Thus disabling the usb. Now i know this, i will switch the pre-amp on whenever i want to make a digital copy of a record, and off afterwards. The switch is on the back of the connection box making it a bit difficult to reach.

The platter came wobbly, the mechanism clunky and the worst parasitic noise in the speakers when in phono mode my guess because the platter rubs against the central spindle (not a great design). No direct drive turntables?

    • @Thryym
      @Thryym 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won't find hi end (over 2000€) or mid range (1000-2000€) turn tables with direct drive. At least those intended for pure sound quality because the direct drive causes vibrations, and thats the main goal of these turn tables, get rid of all that causes vibrations. Normally are Dj turntables and entry level the ones with direct drive. cheers.

    • @QoraxAudio
      @QoraxAudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Thryym You should do a bit more research before posting, because that's incorrect.
      For example VPI, which is a well know audiophile brand makes direct drive turntables as their highest-end turntables, like the VPI HW-40.
      Swedish Analog Technology, which is also a well known high-end manufacturer makes a direct drive turntable called the SAT XD1.
      The SAT XD1 uses the same direct drive motor as in the Technics SL-1000R, which is considered to be one of the most accurate turntables made in the past 40 years.
      A very similar motor is used for the Technics SL-1200G which is an audiophile version of the regular SL-1200 models.
      Clearaudio is also a well respected brand in the audiophile scene and their best turntable is the Clearaudio Statement - also a direct drive.
      I can call at least 3 more examples, just from the top of my mind, like the Brinkmann Bardo, Grand Prix Audio Monaco, Thorens TD402DD...
      You'll probably be able to find many, many more examples of high-end DD turntables.

    IMO vinyl format its not worth it because:1.the cost it is stupid high for the sound quality 2.sound quality its worse in every mode to cd 3.its an inconvenience for listening to music at a good quality,you need to buy tens and thousands of accessories for maintenance and they scratch and get dirty very easy.To put in perspective with cd,that is much cheaper,better sound quality with an average setup that contains a cd player with some active speakers,that from my experience sounds better than a 500$ turntable with external pre-amp and reciver with passive speakers.I just want it to put my two cents on this debate,but choose want do you want,my choice majors the fact that I don't have the money to spent on an audiophile setup with hundreds of records,but at least I support my favorite artists with the cds I buy.

      CDs were hyped as more durable, but sad truth is they scratch so much easier than LPs, and then you have to polish them, just to play them! Otherwise, the tray spits them out! CD vs LP price depends on where you live. CD players also do not last long! I had all of them crap out on me in the last 30 years, none lasted more than about 8 years, a few only 6 months, while several of my turntables were made close to 50 years ago! Nowadays I use my refurb computers to copy my CDs onto hard drive, and they play quietly, which I cannot say about CD players, which often make nasty noises! I still buy CDs, but for listening, the 1:1 copy on computer is more convenient :)
      My LPs save all that work!
