    I used to have some problems with a slight hum when playing records. I solved it with the acrylic platter and by attaching a wire from the spindle base to the ground screw. (I also posted this solution on Flickr a few years ago.)

    Thank you herr Heinz for the very nice and informative video.. also, thank you for excellent customer service.. I had bought a Pro-Ject Classic SB Superpack (used - not new) from Amazon few years ago and it came missing several pieces such as the base feet... When I conacted herr Heinz about this he quickly sent me replacement units FOR FREE which I consider as truly great customer service... Best wishes to you...

    I've made several of these upgrades and plan on doing all of the ones you recommend as time goes by. So far I've done the acrylic platter, sub platter with upgraded belt and changed the Sumiko entry level stylus that came with the table with a Moonstone. The upgrades I've made so far have made a huge difference. An upgraded power supply cord arrives in a few days. The nice thing about the Sumiko Oyster series is the ability change the stylus by simply pulling it out and sliding in the replacement. Next will be the upgraded RCA cable and power box S-2. And of course vibration control.

    Mr. Lichtenegger, while I never met you (always wanted to), I have seen lots of interviews and tours, etc. over the years (Most from Michael Fremer). I have to say in my opinion, you are a rock star! You and your wife are simply lovely people! Your passion is strongly felt and shared.
    It is nothing short of amazing, what you do! You offer ever-improved product at great value creating something for everyone. I love your statement you have repeated elsewhere about how you want to get luxury audio into as many people's hands as possible because everyone deserves it. That is amazing and very kind-hearted.
    I personally do not own any Pro-Ject products currently, but I am considering the DAC DS2 Ultra.
    I run vintage turntables, but if I ever have a need for a new turntable Pro-Ject will be first on my list!
    I also like how you treat your employees well and I hope everyone is doing ok with all this pandemic running around.
    Stay safe!

    I own rpm 1 I've upgraded the e connect it and acrylic platter, and also ground it, found that the ground it was least effective in terms of sound quality but good for leveling I'f needed.

    • @Projectaudiosystems
      @Projectaudiosystems  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, the Ground it doesn't change the audio signal itself, but provides a proper standing & prevents the transmission of vibrations. If your furniture is already very stable & not vibration sensitive you now have the perfect platform with the Ground it, as no vibrations will reach your turntable & you can perfectly adjust the height.

      In this case I actually prefer it this way. While it is nice sometimes to just know the final cost up front and pay all at once, I appreciate the ability to get into the hobby at a low entry cost and be able to upgrade small things over time without needing a whole new table should I get more into it.

    • @mikechivy
      @mikechivy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iburley_ Disagree. Rega for example, has many "upgrade" paths for a P3. Platter, subplatter, external power supply. By the time you pay for all this, you could afford a P6 which has a significantly better deck which is a massive reason why its a lot better. Just save up for the bigger upgrade instead of putting lipstick on a pig.
      P3 w/o cart - $1125. Neo power supply - $445, platter $365, metal subplatter - $250. Total $2185
      Rega P6 w/o cart - everything mentioned above and a far far superior deck. Total $1875

  • @philipsharples615

    I have a Pro Ject RPM 6.1 SB . The cartridge is a Goldring Elite MC . My phone stage is a Phono box DS . I use the record clamp that came with the turntable, but find that with some LPS from the 1970s and 80s that they can be presed on a lightweight vinyl. This can lead to the disc being dished or warped. When the clamp is used, it will flatten it when playing one side, but the other will have a gap between the disc and the plater . Is there anything you can recommend to help eliminate this issue. Kind regards.

The weight varies in the folders between 960 and 1.3 kg. How is this possible? And how heavy is it, as i do not want to lose to much weight. Wow and flutter is now an incredible good 0,04 to 0,06%.

    What are your interconnect cables are they 50 Ohms? ideally want 50 ohm cable and 50 ohm BNC silver Jacks and sockets, RCA generally is 75 Ohm and doesn't offer a very good connection. cable you want is an RG 50/u coaxial cable cheap and best to use solid core copper.
    One thing I can't get information is litz tonearm cable at 50 ohms do you make it you know who does
    And you really want to get the energy out of the main bearing this is done best with tungsten powder c80 ideally from buffalo tungsten powder, fill a squash ball with tungsten powder and superglue it to the plinth you can get tungsten powder for golf clubs I'm not sure what the oxygen and carbon is tho but c80 is one of the best. I haven't experimented with another tungsten powder formulas there's many to choose from but for mass c80 is one of the best

    How do I connect my RPM 10 Carbon to the Power Box Uni? I was told this was the best option as a power supply but they have different plugs. The motor has an AC15v 1 pin style and the Power Box has a 3 pin mini XLR. No dealer was able to help me. Please help me @Pro-Ject. Thanks Enrico a loyal customer in Italy

      Your RPM 10 Carbon should have a 15V DC input. If you want to power your turntable you need the Power Box Uni 1-way TT with the 15V output. A fitting cable is in the box.

      @QoraxAudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes those are great, my 1200G is basically free of rumble too.
      I measured the rumble at -72dB, which is the noise floor of the test record itself.

  • @QoraxAudio
    @QoraxAudio 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Mats don't change the sound characteristic or color.
    Better mats only improve the dynamic range by lowering rumble and reduces pops from static noise.

      Platter bearing spindle and the bushing on the platter are different on 1.3 and 1 Carbon and the Acryl it for RPM 1 Carbon was made for the RPM 1 Carbon bearing design. Spindle diameters are the same, so it will physically fit, but on a technical level it doesn't work to the same effect as on the 1.3. To be honest, it is a small detail, if you enjoy it, keep enjoying it!

    The best way is not to waste time on testing multiple upgrades and worrying about imperfections of the system, and simply enjoy listening to the music instead !

    • @mikechivy
      @mikechivy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're just enjoy listening to the music, stick to digital. Music is much more enjoyable with better clarity, separation, transparency. A cheap TT wont get you any of this.

    • @warrenslaughter393
      @warrenslaughter393 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mikechivy Depends, basically any CD will be better than nearly any TT setup, but most half decent TT setups can easily get better than any straight MP3. With TT becoming more and more advanced, it’s quality is only going up. That does however require a lot of work and money so if it is just for the music it wouldn’t be worth it. That’s why most only love it for the act of collecting and balancing out a TT system. No it’s not practical in the least, but it can be very enjoyable.

Maybe quality HD digital records 96/24 flac and better have same quality as vinil. CD generaly isn't best sound source.

    I tried the power supply upgrade and it only added hum whenever I start up the platter. The hum gets louder as I turn the volume up. Only way to get rid of the hum is to disconnect ground wire from my turntable to the phono preamp, or put the stock wall wart back. I put the stock wall wart back.

    My Pro-Ject metal platter makes an audible scraping noise when playing any LP - It is a flaw in the design and my other turntables do not have this issue - matt does not fix it and neither does a sound dampener below the TT or a clamp as it is the grind of the metal platter that is the cause...sounds like a can opener - not really a good audio experience

    The author did not touch upon the two most important upgrades of your playing device.
    First and foremost - the most accurate adjustment and alignment of the rocker arm and shell and head position. Putting in order the mobility of the suspension units of the tonearm - running in the bearings and grinding in all the bearings and rotation bushings to maximum mobility.
    And the second is the replacement of the tonearm with a more correctly designed one in terms of responses and resonances, standing deformation waves. A good tone arm should have minimal inertia and maximum damping.
