    The problem that I have with BMW and Mercedes, is that their design hasn't changed much in like 5 years.
    When I was test driving vehicles, BMW and Mercedes did absolutely nothing for me. It didn't seem like I was in a new car.
    I didn't test drive Audi because I wanted rear wheel drive only.
    Love my Genesis G70.

      Jonathan Losito you are right. We have the T6 in the S90 and it lacks nothing in power, but the engine is loud and buzzy outside of the car. Inside it is super quiet. The Volvo holds its own but with the T8 engine. That is only because of the electric engine. The Volvo is a lot cheaper than the G90 and has all the luxury.

    They should stick with those headlights and make it their “thing”. I think one of their problems is they drastically change the look of their models and the brand lacks something distinguishing. The ambiguity of “what kind of car is that?” Was fine at first but it’s time for them to get a look and really establish themselves to be a strong competitor

    • @jove1155
      @jove1155 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Tristan Han That's not what he was saying. He was referring to keeping the distinctive new design cues, rather than drastically redesigning every so often. As an example, if you look at the Hyundai Sonata since its inception, some look like toyotas, some like jaguars, they have NOTHING in common throughout the years. But you can see clear evolutions in something like the Toyota Avalon redesigns through time. He was saying they should keep this new distinctive design even through refreshes/redesigns. In 2027, I hope the G80 then will be a clear evolution of the 2021 G80 - because I love it and I'm buying one!

    • @DaveKootchie
      @DaveKootchie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the opposite. They aren't an innovative brand but they are built around extreme quality and reliability. They aren't chasing crazy horsepower or the newest screens and gadgets like the German companies, and they aren't trying to make German-like cars like the Korean companies. BMW, Merc, and Genesis are luxury cars you'd want to lease, because once warranty runs out of the next newest generation comes out they want you to upgrade. Where as Lexus is a luxury car you want to OWN for a long time. Because of that I think they are a successful luxury brand

    • @RomanM803
      @RomanM803 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lexus cars really don’t have that wow factor like the Germans do and let’s be honest they don’t have the same status. You really don’t see big TH-camrs or celebrity’s driving around in a Lexus. They will pick a German or UK car all day. Now that’s where Genesis comes in so you have affordable car brand with German tech and luxury. All you see is bmw Mercedes and Range Rover it’s time for something new.

  • @mikemccormick8115
    @mikemccormick8115 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What’s NOT better than the Germans is the real question. They last 4 years then every cheap plastic part under the hood starts breaking or wearing out. German cars are all about (unwarranted) status, bling, and nice cushy interiors. They aren’t about reliability anymore. Those days are long gone. For those writing back, “mine has lasted a long time with no issues” good for you but: 1) you are the exception or 2) you are due for a headache or 3) you’re lying

    I definitely would look at a G80 if I were in the market for a luxury car. Good looking overall, just needs some tint and a less chrome option. When are these companies going to realize chrome is going out of style? That interior though, so nice! I really liked that control knob to use in lieu for the touchscreen (sorry Tommy). Would I buy this car or a traditional Mercedes or BMW? Well, I would have purchased a Lincoln Continental over all of them, but now that it's going away because Ford gives up, I'd buy this G80 with AWD and the V6. I figure, if I'm going to plunk down as much money as half the price of a small starter home just to drive something, it might as well look this good and have the works in it, too.
    As for BMW and Mercedes-Benz, they need to work on quality and find a superstar like Peter Schrayer to come teach them how to design a car with thought-provoking lines and elegance through simplicity; something they were once kings at, and now seem to be more like paupers in this field. So yeah, G80? Gimmie gimmie! 👑!

      But in your case, maybe you should begin with some reading comprehension courses, since I never actually specified an amount of money or any specific BMW or Mercedes model, so that could be anything from a $50,000 to a $120,000 car and "starter home" is exactly what that term implies. Is this the top trim in the US? Rear seat in Korea gets a control center in the rear arm rest like any luxurious car does. I felt the Korean didn't bring all the good features to the US market so they don't have to repair them under their super long warranty.

    Mercedes design is lost in the woods? I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. They are putting out some of the most classically proportioned and beautiful cars we've seen in 20+ years. These cars will look good for many, many years into the future, both interior and exterior, and the language is cohesive throughout the brand. You can complement Genesis on their design too, but don't try and denigrate MB in the process. Both can be good.

    First off, I like the G80 and the GV80 and if I had the money, I would certainly go for the GV80. Now, with you reviewing cars and making critical comments (such as the ones about BMW, Mercedes) I am being critical once again with your camera (Smart phone) use in your videos. When it's you doing the review Tommy, Whomever you have doing the camera work is really not good. I feel like I should be bumping into your constantly while watching. The holder of the Camera is TOO CLOSE and Zooms in Too Often. The limitations of a Cell Phone being used for this purpose simply don't make it a great tool for the job, OR, the person using it just doesn't know what he is doing. Some people can actually get motion sickness with this much constant moving around of the camera and won't watch simply on that point alone. Back off with the Camera a few feet, Be more Steady and STOP Trying to inspect Tommy's skin with the Zoom!

    When you find out that the g80 and gv80 have matrix style intelligent front lighting systems with 128 individual LEDs:😱😲. With this headlight system you'd never have to turn off your high beams because they dynamically split the beams to make way for cars and pedestrians. I was puzzled because the headlights were projector beam instead of reflector and I didn't know it could be done. But they did it🙌.

    It is incredible how Hyundai manages a steady progress from bottom-shelf crap towards a world-class vehicles. Having said that, while the previous G80 was a bit of a snoozer, this exterior while definitely unique, just doesn't do it for me. At all. The head/tail lights are interesting to be sure but for me vertical stack arrangements just don't work on a sedan. The interior however, simple, elegant and a very nice place to be for sure.

      Most likely would be sued by Volvo. Tesla wanted to call the Model 3 the Model E, but Mercedes had the trademark even though that car line is technically called the E Class and never referred to as the Mercedes Model E..

    Well it depends .. BMW Mercedes and Audi .. brand new are awesome cars .. but what after 6 7 or 8 years they are garbage ... I don’t think the hundai will ever be able to match anyone of those brands in terms of tech , engines, and luxury.. Becuse the Germans do make great engines and new cars .. I don’t see Hyundai ever over takin them ... but if it’s a lot cheaper and sort similar than it’s a good buy .. I guess

    I love it. I believe they should watch out. The only problem is that the G80 doesn't get the inline 6 diesel. Only the GV80 does. That's a deal breaker. The E Class, A6 and 5 series all have inline 6 diesel options.

    Quick question: I've had my heart set on the new G70, but it seems like the face lift is now another year away.
    I'm 6'5" and haven't been able to sit in a g70 yet. Should I just forget waiting the g70 and start focusing on the g80 given my size?

      Yes. G70 is not really meant for tall people. I'm 5' 7" lol there is a plenty of leg room for the front seats but even at my height, no adult can sit comfortably behind the driver's seat.
