Thanks for all your videos keep it up. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Excellent video Sir. Much appreciated
Thanks man!!!!!! you saved me a trip.
Thank u sir. You are a super hero of the mechanic world. All your vids are top notch with the best repair detail of any. Merry Christmas to u and family!
Thanks RichPin. I need to replace an oxygen sensor on a 1995 4 runner but this helps out a bunch!
THANK YOU VERY HELPFUL VIDEO.
you are great teacher
Thanks for the knowledge
Thank you for letting everyone that.
Awesome video. Was able to get the code for my 1988 Toyota Camry. Used my wife's bobby pin to activate the diagnosis. 👍
Great video Richpin, I have a 91 Tercel.. basically the same thing as the 92.
I'm wondering do you put the paper clip jumpers in the two holes for each check engine light?
thank you very much .. i apreciete a lot .i learned a new thing
Awesome! Thank you!
wow excellent video Rich, I had done this before seeing the video and the check engine light kept flashing just like in this car and it concerned me. Found this video only to come across that my car has no codes!. Thank You.
Yea i got the same results, that just means my cat is bad since it wont pass emissions even though i did a full service, all filters, oil, plugs, the works. Not looking forward to welding in a replacement🤣
thanks for the info, i didnt feel like googling which pins to jump.. i wish u would have unplugged a sensor or something so it would have set a code so u could have actually shown a trouble code..
Thanks Peter
If you are jumping the pins but get no flashing CEL, you might have an OBD 2 compliant toyota. For example, the 1995 V6 Camry has a diagnostic port under hood, but jumping it will not flash codes. Instead there is an OBD 2 port located on the left hand side of the dash behind a removable coin holder, where you hook up an OBD 2 code reader, and see your codes. Other toyotas like the Avalon have it behind a fuse box cover. Confirm your pre-96 Toyota is not OBD 2 compliant. Do so by checking the under good label.
Lynx Star Automotive Thank-you! I've been trying to figure this puzzle out for weeks. What a bizarre design --a dummy diagnosis port under the hood just to frustrate owners?! (: Anyway, I just removed the coinholder on my 94 V6 Camry and there is the OBDII port exactly as you said. I happen to have an OBDII scanner for my Sienna so I can run the codes on the old Camry now too. Thanks again!
No problem. If you are curious, the port under the hood is actually used to diagnose other systems like ABS, SRS (if equipped), and to run diagnostic tests on some systems components.
Lynx Star Automotive Ok, that makes sense. Anyway, the scan worked well. Showed a p0401 code. Only "symptoms" are lousy fuel efficiency and a slight carbony smell with the windows down --both of which could be from other causes, of course. Still, I think I might try cleaning the EGR valve. Doesn't look too hard... famous last words?? (:
Gary Frank You can try cleaning the valve, but you will probably have to clean the EGR passages in the head as well. They might be plugged up, not allowing proper flow, and setting the insufficient flow code. Also, the carbon smell might be a leak from the very EGR system, and could also set that code.
Lynx Star Automotive Good to know. Not sure what I'll do yet. Thanks again.
thanks Rich, this came in handy!
You are welcome.
A very useful tutorial. I heard you mention code 12, the very code I'm receiving on my '94 Corolla (1.8L). The problem related to this code is an intermittent miss while the engine is idling at normal temperature, and ONLY at idle. I'm pulling my hair out tying to find the problem.
Did you ever figure it out, I have the same code.
AWESOME!!!
@SpaceWolfPainter same thing. norm was a damm good carpenter.
My CEL came on, ran it with the paperclip method. Got egr malfunction. Took apart throttle body and the passages were completely blocked with crystalized carbon. Scrubed em clean, sprayed em out, reinstalled. Reset light. Never came back on. Thanks!!
+JaceD4V1S88 Your lucky most of the time it is very hard to get the carbon out.
ive heard stories haha. mine looked like a piece of pencil lead that was sticking out of the hole on the inside of the intake but about 2 times bigger.
JaceD4V1S88
Can't say how surprised I was to find a diagnostic port under the hood of my 28 year old Corolla :D
good vid.
Any guesses on when i try to jump e1 and te1 the CEL doesnt flash? maybe a broken diagnostic box? ive tried a paper clip and a copper wire thus far.
i drove one of these 4th gen Tercels, it was a 6 speed. only 6 speed i have ever seen in a Tercel. was a fast little car. lol
@Bulgdoom That's explains why he is getting all those speeding tickets.
@Liamautomechanic Exactly!
I have not done much work on the celicas.
It could be that the connections in the box are very dirty and you can not make good contact.
Hey rich cool video im having code issues with my toyota 4runner 95 I took a video cause im confused on how to read the flashes to get the correc codes
I owned a Toyota Tersal Model 1994 and the needy Ride Motor corresponds please advise me with the knowledge that the motor current 1500cc
Hello I Did What You Show In The Video But My Engine Light Dont Flash Stay Solid On How Cant You Help Thank You For Ur Time .
How do u get over 13V with thr engine turned off? I got 12.6 V at best
Rich, very good video I used it to pull a code on my 1991 Tercel.... Question is I got the code 71 (EGR System) I know it something with the EGR System but what are the things to check/diagnose?
Thanks.
Look closely at your vacuum lines and Vacuum Modulator.
I did that same thing on my 94 tercel but no flashing Check Light ( or SES light in the case of my car ) What would the problem be if there is no flashing of the light ?
@calmini4x4 Boy that is a rare one.
richpin06a toyota cami codes 51
Ive got a Lexus GS300 (1993 so pre obd2) with an air bag light on, does anyone know a way I can diagnose this? Some have same the airbag module but im not sure. We bought the car at an auction with trans issues for $400 (fixed via a fluid AND filter change hehe!) car runs great and has 370k on it, shoot the AC even works perfectly! Just this pesky airbag light might cause issues for inspection! Person that owned it before did normal maintenance but let other things slide (valve cover gaskets are pouring oil everywhere, fixing that along with a recently developed coolant leak, today. Would be great if we could atleast find an explanation as to why the airbag light it on. Im gonna try this to see if maybe it gives me a trouble code but I doubt it
you sound like peter griffin
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lmao!!!!!
Does the 1992 toyota hilux have an obd port i have looked all over
Just resetting, doesn't fix the problem?
My Check Engine came on last night on a 2006 Corolla......Auto Zone run test. Came back with code that fuel was too lean.... I'm not a mechanic.... What now? Can't afford a Toyota Dealer prices. Can I replace? Thanks....
what happens if you put a piece of metal between the positive and negative posts on the battery
Gracias me ahorre 100$ de diagnostico y una pocible estafa pues solo tenia suelto el conector de censor
Hi! I replaced the battery on my 1995 Toyota Celica and now it cranks, but it won't start. It's probably the anti theft or immobilizer. Any Idea how to bypass it with just the physical key? Thanks!
Good deal ....
Hi I did an obd scan on my car (1988 toyota celica 2.0L A/T) and the result was 51.
51 - Switch signal -A/C switch ON during diagnosis Wiring, A/C switch, A/C amplifier, ECM
51 - Switch signal -closed throttle position (CTP) switch OFF during diagnosis Wiring, CTP switch, ECM
51 - Switch signal -park/neutra! position (PNP) switch not in P or N during diagnosis Wiring, PNP switch, ECM
My car has this acceleration issue for a month now, it cannot go uphill.
I did these things trying to solve my acceleration issue, still not succeeded
-changed fuel filter
-cleaned maf sensor
-air filter is in good condition
-cleaned throttle body
-clean air intake tube
-cleaned throttle position sensor
-changed my ATF (drain and refill method)
-changed AT filter
-cleaned AT oil pan and magnets
-changed spark plugs
-adjusted the accelerator cable according to the manual
Interpretation on the result of 51 and any suggestions?
Timing issue
4:06 I never knew a carburetor engine had on board diagnostic port, or even any engine management computer. Would you enlighten me with some examples?
my toyota corolla 1988 ae95 has carburetor and has obd1, research fuel feedback systems
@@silverfish6908 that's interesting
this is probably obvious, but will it work on a 1991 toyota supra? does it work on all toyota obd1's?
For everybody who wonders, this is the same on the European Corolla E10/E11 and the British made Carina T190
Thank you. :D
This is one fast Toyota, does 8mph while standing still
I have 1995 corolla ,when i connect te1 e1 the service engine just flashing in constant timing
my problem is after driving for seconds the service engine light comes on and comes off when I turned off the engine
what is the problem
thanks

Unbroken flashing means it’s not storing any codes. Anything you’re getting is temporary and likely no big deal. I would want to know too tho.
It's like watching The New Yankee Car Shop.
When. I do this mine has a clicking noise while it flashes it's a (Saturn sc2 1993)
Also when I push the brake pedal the hazards come on when the car is running the brakes kills the car
what happens if you turn on the car wile checking the dignos.
Richpin why dont i have a check engine symbol not even whenni put the key to on
i pin out the +b and e1, did i ruin my ecu?? after that fans are always on and car only cranks, please help me :(
You have blown a fuse haha. You went straight across the battery
what happens if you turn on the car wile checking the codes
I did this test on 1996 corolla and its flashing continuously implying that it has no codes but its performing badly on fuel, low power and even produces black smoke
Can you have stored codes without a 'check engine' light ?
Light will not come on
@bhstone1 In your dreams.
I believe i was on the 20 volt DC scale.
When the clip is in it will read all the codes in the computer.
my flash 4shorts 1long 7shorts 1long canbe two codes?
It is possible to have a code 41 and 71.
where can I get the code list?
+Paterson Padri There is a good list here www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/
thanks...
a lot of overspray in the engine bay lol.
Just anf F.Y.I. for anyone watching this... I have a 92 paseo automatic transmission and it works on that too.
That is good to know.
K8
FIRST!
I have not done much work on the celicas.
