    Metromile auto insurance uses a module that stays plugged into the diagnostic port while driving to track gps locations for billing by the mile. I wondered if it would screw things up if I ever needed to unplug it to plug in a diagnostic code readout tool. The very next day my check engine light came on. When I logged into my email inbox I had a message from them that PO44O code had been indicated. They actually diagnosed it before I even had a chance to get back home and diagnose it myself. Thanks to your video my fears of an expensive repair have been stopped. Thank you for an honest clear and concise video.

    Thank you very much The Car Doctor. I got check engine light on and code P0441, 0442 and 0446. I've been searching for what cause it all over the internet and could not find the answer until seeing your video. You save me from having to go to the dealership and get charge for a simple fix. Once again thanks!

    Car Doc.. thank you thank you! Your description 'Did you recently have the oil changed or check your air filter and suddenly experience a check engine light and stored codes P0440 and/or P0446?' was EXACTLY right...CEL came on after and oil change. Repair facility got upset when I asked them to figure it out because CEL came on 2 miles later after oil change.
    They left it unplugged.
    Wait--it gets better. ANOTHER video of yours perfectly diagnosed another vehicle of mine (-no reverse/no 2nd/4th gear.)
    Thanks!

    Lol man you were right on point! Two codes popped up 0441,0446 changed the gas cap and four days later, CE light was still on. Found this video, checked the air filter hose and yep it was off (after an oil change from the drive in oil place). Great video, saved $$ and time. Thanks Tim!

    If it's not that, a P0446 is often the purge valve on the charcoal canister or the canister itself.

  • @GiantWingedLizard

    Nailed it! Had my 2001 Tacoma safety checked recently, and got a P0446 code. Whaaaaaa? Right after a safety check (which the truck passed)?
    Watched your video, took a look at the air filter box, and saw a hose crushed into the lip of the box, instead of plugged into its port. Not just sloppy, but suspicious.
    Do you think they wanted me to come back and pay for hundreds of dollars of unnecessary repairs? Nah...that never happens. :)
    Thanks, Doc!!!

    2000 Toyota Echo, 310,000km. I had a good laugh when I walked over to find that to be the exact issue. The spring clamp that comes stock on the line doesn't have much strength. I figure that over time the engine rattle could have worked it loose. I replaced it with a screw clamp to ensure it stays on. Thanks, bud!

      +The Car Doctor You know what Tim there has never been a channel where people can express themselves on a common channel. We all have cell phones and no place to express your thoughts unless you want to make your own channel. Well most people don't want to start a channel but what if there was a channel you could send in a clip of your thoughts on various subjects . If the subjects were such that it sparks the interest of viewers I say yes. I think you were being a bit Steve Robish but I think it's an interesting concept, I'm all about being different. LOL

    Hi Tim, It has been my experience that you really can't afford to have a quicky lube place work on your car. I have herd many horror stories about stuff they have done. If you can't do it yourself, pay more, but it is really cheaper. Good Video...Thanks

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel bad since Im not always available to change oil on my customers cars mostly because I loose money doing it. I know its a good time to look things over and sell work but im usually too busy to even do that properly. Then I pull the oil drain plug and oil sprays all over my shirt and floor, I drop the filter then have to wait two hours for a filter I didn't have or special fluids for some weird application all the time tying up a rack that could be turning $98 per hour while doing an oil change for 39.95 But then they go to a quick lube place and they cross thread their drain plug, double gasket the filter, put power steering fluid in the brake fluid and sell them stuff they don't need. Oh, and then knock the hose off the air cleaner and cause the check engine light to come on so they have to come visit me. haha. What a broken world we live in.

    Thanks for the Toyota Tip! This is clearly the manufacturer's doing. Quit hanging crap off routine maintenance items and burying them. Also drop the pretty plastic engine covers that hide leaks, rubbed hoses and wires and make it more difficult for visual inspections! Rant over, my apologies.

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that they tend to make common maintenance things difficult and the hose placement was poor design. It's almost like they want everyone but factory trained folks to fail at servicing their brand so that people become disappointed with independent shops as much as they are with the dealership. Hey this rant thing is super fun!

      Thanks. That's my push truck. 460 powered F350 4X. I got it for $500 after the last owner had the neutral safety wiring wrap around the front driveshaft while traveling at a high rate of speed. When the truck suddenly died he noticed a large ball of wires wrapped around the driveshaft. It had pulled every wire from the tail lights to the insturment cluster down and wrapped around the shaft. It took me a few days to straighten that mess out but well worth it. I spent a bunch of time and money on the engine and transmission recently just because. It's a real powerhouse.

    Now that would make the check engine light come on as soon as you start the car right? My light wont come back on for about a week after resetting it???

    Hose falls off mostly because of engine jerking when u start it, it’s like u’d be pulling it off

    Fixed my 4runner P0446. Found a leak in my canister-pulled it and ran a bead of black FIPG and its done. Meanwhile my wifes Camry/Solara 3.0 check engine came back on for the P0440 after I put the hose back on. Any ideas?
