A few years ago, after ten years of accident-free cutting, I had a lapse of concentration and cut my leg. It wasn't too bad but required several stitches. I do not remember if my first Stihl was an FS86 string trimmer or 023 saw. I have been a fan ever since. I recently purchased am MS261. I cannot wait to use it.

@@tjlovesrachel I do it, too. My MS 180 is small enough, but I wouldn't do it with one of the bigger saws. It's better for novices to avoid drop starting until they're experienced.

All good information! It’s imperative to use approved PPE equipment! Saw accidents name and kill in a split second. Be sober, alert and rested. Keep the saw chain sharp. A sharp saw is dangerous, a dull one is deadly!

Learned a lot, but some of the things I can't apply. For one, I live in the tropics. I get dehydrated chainsawing in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm a widowed homeowner without permanent neighbors next door on either side, my "partner" is having a phone in my pocket. I get what you're saying but some people's circumstances are different. I'm also more concerned about an earthquake happening than about sawing into my leg (that's one of the reasons why I only own a small chainsaw). What got me here is trying to determine what to buy to sharpen my chain, or whether it would be cheaper to replace it - and the case may very well be the latter.
I cut my leg with a chainsaw a few years ago. Now I sweat and complain when cutting in my Stihl protective gear, but my legs won't be cut again. Put safety above comfort. If you have a service point nearby, they'll sharpen your chain for very little. I used to sharpen my own chains, but as an occasional user I'd rather pay to have it done.
@@bobikdylan I completely get that. I still have a chain of my 10" chainsaw lying around and rather than sharpening it or getting it sharpened (so far) I bought a new one. At some point I may get fed up with having to put chains into metal recycling - because I know I will hit the dirt again.
Then to adjust yr high & low speed screws, drill out the plugs that are holding the screws from being adjusted use about a 5/32nd drill bit, clean out shavings & adjust, now yr saw can run correctly 😉 !

Stihl saws are hard to pull start. I thought I wanted to buy a Stihl chainsaw. I walked into a Stihl showroom and tested the chainsaws I would like to buy. I pulled every Stihl chainsaws in the showroom. Fantastic, I couldn't pull any chainsaws in the showroom. Of course, I walked out with no chainsaw. I ordered a Husqvarna 460 Rancher with a 24" bar. It came in few days. Amazing, two pulls easily without issue, I started my Husqvarna 460 Rancher chainsaw. Used my Husky to take down a 70 ft high over 24" dia meter large tree in few minutes. I realized Stihl is not my saw.
Did you try 'drop starting' it? I can't start my saw any other way. The 'ONLY' way to properly start a chainsaw is by the correct 'drop start' method!
If you aren't strong enough to start a saw you don't have any bussiness using one. Also, Stihl saws are one of the easiest saws to start.

I just bought a 362 from a dealer in my town, he was an ol grizzled ol man didnt speak much didn't tell me anything about my purchase, do i have a warranty? I didn't even get instruction pamphlet like from the box or anything hell i didn't even get a chainsaw wrench. Just kinda figured at $965.00 id atleast get a chainsaw wrench, i didn't even get a manual, i told the dude it was my first chainsaw ever.

I just bought an MS 361 and came across ths in the manual "Firmly tighten down the cylinder base screws of professional saws" without any elaboration. Would be able to clarify exactly which screws are being referred to?
All of the Stihl videos recommend warming up the saw before use, but none of them define the length of time required to warm up the saw, or ways to confirm the saw is sufficiently warm. Cutting with an engine that's too cold can cause internal damage. Stihl should edit or amend their videos to provide guidance on this. I've seen new saws ruined from cold seizure because owners didn't let them warmup sufficiently. Big oversight by Stihl when making these videos.

Not sure why they insist that gloves are so important when using a chainsaw.
I was told by my stihl agent that my STIHL ht103 should not cut anything more than 2 inches thick ,but I saw in this video a branch being cut that look like 5 inches thick
Hello Sherwin,
No idea why they would have said that. You can make cuts as long as the guide bar is. Typically when pruning with a pole pruner it's rare to utilize the whole length of the guide bar.
I have an old 019 saw for working off a ladder and that little saw goes thru 8" and 10" stuff with no problem. Later when I got the polesaw I put the same bar on both to be able to interchange the chains. Both are great saws.

I would start the saw on the ground and let it warm up . Turn it off . Do the climbing and one pull should start it when you are ready to cut.
What's the latest model equivalent to 070 model
Hello Marnelle, STIHL offers the MS661 at 91cc and the MS881 at 121cc. They will be the closest comparable saws to the 070 which offered 105cc.
Bummer that removing dead trees is more than likely what you'll be wanting to remove. Reminded me how dangerous this can be.

Yes wear heat stroke pants when you have no clue and it’s your first day on the job personally my husband would rather not die of heatstroke . Carry an ifak with tourniquets to and pay attention my hubby has been cutting trees since he was 14 not one saw or axe 🪓 related injury. Keep your head on your shoulders you’ll be ok use common sense though today that’s lacking in some but those are probably the type that don’t work

Where on earth are the chainsaw logging boots with protection??? I've been logging for years and I know my boots have saved me more times than the pants. Oddly enough, it is easier to know where your legs are than your feet.
And btw, both Stihl and Husqvarna (and others) now produce pants that actually fit and are comfortable and that DOESN'T snag branches like these relic chaps.

I worked for Aslpnudh a long time ago. Got a nice Stihl saw here today and am scared shirtless of it. As everyone should be. Mostly afraid due to my very bad back that left me working from home, remotely.

When limbing up a fallen tree I like to start at the extremities from the top. This way when cutting, the branches are not loose and moving around. It’s easier this way to cut short lengths of branches down to the trunk. Once the trunk is clear of branches it’s either cut up for firewood or is used as timber.
great video i have never falling a tree nore operated a chainsaw before, but for me i would not be walking in front of a tree that has had all its falling cuts made. looks like a recipe for disaster to me.
And remember, the guy that did walk in front of the tree that had all it's falling cuts made is a "professional".

It is easier to change out for a new chain and pay someone else to sharpen the dull chains. Too old to waste time doing this pita job.
