This might confuse some people, but I personally like the fact that Grog pretty much loses this fight, even though he learns what is the true source of his strength. The writers do not sugarcoat the fact that Grog, without the rest of Vox Machina, would never be able to beat Kevdak in a fair fight. Kevdak is older, more experienced, and even without a Vestige simply STRONGER than Grog. He didn’t skip arm day, and it was a clear curbstomp cushion of a fight.
In the campaign itself Kevdak absolutely fucking destroys Grog and it's not even the slightest bit close.
It's actually implied that Grog _would_ beat Kevdak in a straight fight. Notice how after he gets his strength back, despite being heavily wounded, Kevdak _can't land a hit on him_ until he uses the Knuckles? The big turd had to basically cheat with an artifact-level magic item to turn the tables back against a wounded opponent, _that's_ how good Grog is compared to his uncle.

@@SoyDrinker Uh... pardon? This series was given full approval by the CR crew and I'm pretty sure they had a hand in writing it, so I think this elevates the show above the level of "fanfiction". Beyond that, even if it was just fanfiction, I'm talking about _this_ version of the fight not the TTRPG one (Since yes, there are quite a few differences). Since just from visual observation you can see that after Grog gets his strength back Kevdak lands _one_ hit in the whole stretch before he cheats with the Knuckles, and even then it's a rather ineffectual punch across the face that doesn't even break Grog's stride or series of strikes; thus proving my point in the previous comment "it's implied Grog would've won if Kevdak didn't use the Knuckles".
@@kismethappel7811 What you are saying didn't happen in the campaign and it didn't happen in the series. Like I said, it's pure fanfiction. Grog gets his strength back, surprises Kevdak and lands a couple of hits that seem to do pretty much no damage at all. "He punched him 5-6 times then Kevdak activated his knuckles and fucked him up" doesn't signal that Kevdak is weaker than Grog.

At least Kevdak was mostly fair, he could’ve easily kept his axe and one shot Grog, not that Kevdak possessing the gauntlets wasn’t gonna make it any less one sided

I went into this show blind and binged both seasons in one day. I kept going "why do I hear Thor when Grog yells" and then I realized he played Thor in some of the cartoons. I already clocked Vex as Black Widow since that one is basically the exact same voice but British. The really wild one for me was wondering why i kept thinking about the Hulk when Vax talked. Turns out, he did actually play Hulk in a show i haven't watched, but he played Hiroim in the Planet Hulk movie. Which is also basically the same voice but Hiroim is too dignified to say half the stuff Vax does lol.
Did the animation quality get better in season 2?
not sure.. but CGI dragons were surely better than Jap counterparts. But I feel frame rate was subpar in many scenes.

If you watch the whole thing Grog is usually a big ass buff guy. He had his strength and muscles literally sapped away by a cursed weapon. In this moment when he activated his rage he regained his former massive figure and killed the SHIT out of his uncle.
