    This is one of your best ones. It's simple and instantly effective in getting the feeling. I did not have this problem on the slice serve but now I have a very easy way to explain it to players or to correct myself on an off day. Thank you!

      That's funny. I've also been told the sound is enhanced. But I'm wearing a microphone.
      However it's just a serve. And it's not that fast either. About 100mph is the best I can do these days

    General comment Steve. I know you as a TH-camr need to make income somehow. But so many ads within the video is objectionable. I've noticed this increasingly more frustrating but in particular this video right at the moment I'm looking for every clue possible there's this huge white Banner Ad blocking my concentration. Very disconcerting when it's the culmination of the lesson. It's not helping your likes button IMO. They're getting annoying but worse today they are particularly distracting as I need a good sliced serve it is very off putting to have this Banner Ad taking up more than one third of the screen, right at the most critical moment for understanding. I was okay with several throughout the video but it is disturbing the flow of concentration with so many and so large. Can you place these large banners away from critical intuitive moments in your presentation please? Thanks Steve. 👍

      Hi
      Which advert are you referring to please.
      Maybe give me the the in the video.
      I actually refuse some potential sponsors.
      But, it is a balance as I try to release 3 videos per week and there are real costs.
      But I will adjust adverts that are disturbing.
      You may also notice that I reduce the "like share and subscribe" request to a minimum.
      I hope that overall your still enjoying the channel.
      Regarding your slice serve... Have you tried this drill yet? It is incredibly effective.
      Thanks for your interest

It's the timing so much as the banner ad itself Steve. The one most distracting on a regular basis is your own white one (no offense!) of Riley Opelka. It takes up so much real estate on a small phone it just feels like an obstacle to learning. tbc...

      @@oneminutetennis I'm going to try the lesson in about 2 hours and I'm very anxious that it works because somehow I hit the most amazing slicer when I was trying to kick surf and I have a boat -2 hope of getting that action again but it just felt perfect! I'm amazed at the speed of your serve it's far faster than I anticipated! I'll try and give you some feedback tonight on the slice serve practice I'm more concerned to be honest with the kick serve it's such a joy when you get it right. They both are but the kick serve right now is more advantageous for my skills. From what I can see from the excellent rear view video shots, you're holding the slice serve in a continental grip, is that correct?🤔

      Hi.
      My serve is not what it used to be.
      But I can still top 110mph
      I wasn't demonstrating strokes because of a disc problem.. But it's getting better.
      And yes. Continental grip is pretty essential for a slice serve, although Milos Raonic uses an Eastern backhand grip.
      Let me know how it goes please? Good luck

    Didn’t get this one. At 1:46 your palm is facing to the right. But the rest of the ball throwing motion the palm is facing left. I thought to have internal shoulder rotation, the palm has to be facing right at the end.

    • @oneminutetennis
      @oneminutetennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jason.
      Internal shoulder rotation will allow the elbow to direct the forearm downward.
      But depending on supernation and pronation the palm may point in different directions.
      I can point the palm to the right with only pronation and zero internal shoulder rotation.
      Does that make sense

      I use the 0.25x speed on your demo at 4:20. You basically is carving the ball. While it generates slice, it’s quite different from your intro where you showed a true shoulder rotation and pronation

    • @Better_Call_Raul
      @Better_Call_Raul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneminutetennis Will have to have a think about this one. Yes, you can perform pronation with zero internal shoulder rotation. That is true. But my understanding is that when you perform Internal Shoulder Rotation (ISR), pronation always occurs with it. It is not possible to perform ISR and supinate the forearm at the same time. 🤔

    • @oneminutetennis
      @oneminutetennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      I think that with isr pronation occurs naturally. But that doesn't mean the player cannot supinate.
      Here is a simple biomechanical explanation from Dr Morry. A lot of his work is online
      Pronation and supination
      Pronation and supination allow independent rotation of hand with the distal radius gliding about a relatively immobile distal ulna and without an obligatory rotation of ulna or humerus. The ulna slightly abducts during pronation and adducts during supination. Variations has been described but normal forearm rotation averages about 75 degrees pronation and 85 degrees supination (Morrey and An, 2009). Several daily activities are performed in an arc of 50 degrees of pronation and 50 degrees of supination (Morrey and An, 2009). Limitation of more than the last 30 degrees of pronation or supination necessitates obligatory shoulder internal or external rotation which cause difficulties in daily activities (Morrey et al., 1981).

    Another common tip is to finish with palm supinated and strings pointing towards the sky as shown in 4:30.
    But I never quite understood that tip as it feels awkward to pronate and then finish with palm supinated. Moreover, the ball is long gone at that point. 🤔... But I will give it a go and try it out.

    • @bournejason66
      @bournejason66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t see the shoulder rotation in this ball throwing motion. It looks like he’s carving the outside of the ball.

    • @nvda2damoon
      @nvda2damoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the problem with the slice serve for most people is the pronation that opens up the face to the ball and you'd hit the ball long. in order to create a 'windshield wiping zone' thru the contact so that you have great control and confidence to accelerate, the strings basically always point to the left fence (for a rightie) from the racket drop all the way thru the impact and to the big upside down U position (similar to the thumbnail of this video except Nadal is actually hitting a flat serve in the thumbnail.). so if the strings are facing the left fence at the big upside-down U, when the arm falls down the strings will face the sky..... so the big U position is very similar between the flat and the slice.... except that for the flat the strings face the right fence at the big U, while for the slice at the big U the strings face the left fence. the internal shoulder rotation and the snap of the elbow are basically the same.

    • @Better_Call_Raul
      @Better_Call_Raul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nvda2damoon I am looking at the video thumbnail and upside down U, how can you tell that Rafa is hitting a flat serve and not a slice serve? 🤔

    • @nvda2damoon
      @nvda2damoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Better_Call_Raul from the amount of pronation.... basically pronation is a friend for the racket speed hence power, but is an enemy for consistently getting spin. so this entire drill is trying to limit pronation to ensure spin.

    • @Better_Call_Raul
      @Better_Call_Raul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nvda2damoon Yes, as you said from the Rafa video thumbnail and the "upside down U position". If a righty server is hitting slice, when he hits that U position, the hitting strings will still be pointing *inwards* . If a righty server is hitting FLAT, when he hits that U position, the hitting strings will be pointing outwards to the right side fence.
      The timing of pronation is slightly delayed on the slice. The U position is a great way to check that you are pronating correctly on slice!

    This has helped my slice serve so much. I once had a tennis coach who refused to teach me the slice serve because he said ladies at the 3.5 level could not generate enough racquet head speed to make the ball spin. I guess he didn't understand the angle of the arm and elbow and how they generate momentum. The wrist snap and elbow snap with rotation of the shoulder did it for me. I am finally hitting slice serves. So happy! Thank you.
