    Great video! I’ve had this mat for over a year now and it’s awesome. I think the reason it didn’t self inflate is because you didn’t insert that little green pull into the valve. That is made to stick in there and keep the valve open so it can expand.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks 🙏 Yeah I didn't have a good clip to show, but I did insert it after what you saw, but it still didn't inflate much at all. Mattress still works great, is super comfortable and I just use the air pump, but for some reason mine didn't want to self inflate 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for watching!

    I've had this great mattrasse for 1 year. To roll up as compressed as possible, I suggest the following procedure:
    - Fold in half (so the left is on top of the right)
    - Start to roll from feet side
    - As you roll, use your knees to push all the air out
    - Rest your back on the vehicle roof (in Model Y, it's the beam between glass roof and rear window). This is a great way to push all the air out.
    - Close the valve

    I use an Exped Synmat in a Subaru Outback. About 1” thinner, easier to fold, and comes single and double. For me it’s fine as I’m only 170 lb. I previously returned the Megamat since it was too big and bulky. Exped has brief TH-cam videos on easy ways to fold up them up.

      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep. It's my favorite so far. It really checks all the boxes if you want a mattress that covers the entire back area. The other solo offerings they have are nice as well. Just wish they had one that wrapped around the side of the Model Y like this one does, but in a single. Great quality though on their products. Thanks for watching! 😀

    Thanks Bryan! Great review! I've got the Exped MegaMat Duo which is rectangular and just fits in the back of the Y. It's pretty terrific. Even though it fits in the frunk, I prefer to put food there and store the mattress and sleeping stuff in the back.
    I too wanted room next to the mattress for things. The rectangular one gives me a little. Coincidentally, a cot-sized (75" x 25" x 4.5") Losthorizon self-inflating mattress arrived today. It seems very high quality and equally comfortable. Recently they came out with one specifically for the Model Y, shaped like yours. And today they added one for the Model-S. Crazy! I don't think they're as compact as the Expeds when rolled up but they're about half the price. The cot sized Losthorizon fits in the frunk with room to spare and weighs about the same as the MegaMat Duo. I'm confident their Model-Y mattress will not fit in the frunk.
    In addition to having more space next to it, I thought a smaller mattress would be less of a chore to deflate. Again, thanks for the review!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I'm loving about this one. The ability to store it in so many places. You can use the air pump to deflate this too. I didn't do it in the video cause I wanted to show how easy it was to just squeeze the air out, but I suppose I should have shown that too. It sucks it out in about 30 seconds and then cap it and roll it up. 👍🏻

    Thanks Bryan for the Video! I agree and we already talked about that in the comments in previous video that a single version would be nice. It would give you the room to actually build a self or storage system on the empty side, in this case it could prevent you from rolling off the mattress and you could build a nice storage solution. That could also open a market for someone selling the perfect "storage solution" :D

Have you tried using the vacuum deflator [at the same time as] you roll it up? that way has GOT these things closer to factory size no? Curious. I'll be loading lots and don't want external storage so every little bit of storage a premium for me now!

      EXPED MegaMat Auto fits great into sub-trunk or even frunk and while you can use a deflator it’s not necessary. It will help make the process faster, but doing it manually only takes about 5 minutes.

    Hi, Bryan!
    My husband and I have watched several of your reviews and feel inspired to take the plunge into camping in our Model Y. So thanks for that! One answer we can’t seem to find is about the “trampoline effect” with the various mattresses. It’s not a deal for those doing solo camping, but as the lighter of the pair of us who will be sharing a mattress, I’m concerned about being bounced around every time my spouse moves. :)
    Do you have a sense of which mattress (MegaMat or Travel SleeperSIM) would be better for two people? It would be helpful to know that before we use one of your links to make an investment. Many thanks!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for kind words and for your question. Comfort wise, they're both about the same (very comfortable) so the EXPED is my choice as its ability to store away in a much more compact way gives it the edge. I also think it's material is a bit softer.
      As for sleeping for two... I'd say both would react the same with minimal movement, but remember... while it's not an air mattress per se (as it's memory foam with air pockets), it's still has air so there will be some movement although I haven't noticed much and the individual air pockets tend to isolate movement, Neither are going to be as good at that as a home mattress, but for a portable camping option built for the Tesla... the EXPED would be my choice 👍🏻 I would suggest getting one of the mini electric pumps I linked to as well as that will make the setup process take less than 5 minutes.
      Hope that helps in your decision and I'm honored that I've inspired you to get out into nature and try camping with your Model Y. I get told that multiple times per week and it still lights up my face with a huge smile each time 😀

    Thanks for another great video! I wanted to find out if using this pad helps eliminate the angle of the backseats as they are not flat. I just watched a few videos of people removing the bench seat to get a flat surface for sleeping. What are your thoughts on removing the bench? I’ve slept in the back of my Lexus RX where the seats do not lay flat either and found it to be very uncomfortable as I kept sliding towards the back.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's my biggest pet peeve about all mattresses built for Tesla and while you do notice a slight angle I'm able to counter that by using parking blocks to even it out a bit. It's not perfect, but much better. If you've ever seen my previous mattress reviews that's one thing I wish these companies would address. I've long said they should taper them towards the top to compensate for the rear seats. If I end up creating my own mattress later this year either with EXPED or on my own, that will be THE MAIN FEATURE 😀 I don't notice it much though with this mattress, but parking to compensate for it will help a ton.

Obviously this depends on your height, but I felt like this was a good middle ground that provided great comfort while not being too tall and of course the ability to roll up tight and easily store. I like to be able to drive with the bed set up. Do you find that you can drive with enough room in the front seat with the bed set up in the back? I'm 6"3" so I have my front seat pushed back a bit. My other solution to this is to use a mattress that is narrower and positioned on the passenger side of the car...so that I can leave the passenger seat pushed forward and still be able to drive. Having the seats in a driving position with the bed set up also makes it far easier for me when doing stealth camping as I can have everything ready to go when I arrive at the destination.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I often set mine up too before heading out and will drive around for days or even a week with it in "bed mode." I'm 6'0" and can drive without issue outside of I sometimes have to force the rear hatchback closed vs it just closing on its own (it's just pushing the bed in a bit).
      When I'm camping I created a profile called "Camping" where I have the seats moved forward and just tap that on the screen when I get to a location and then the seats are forward enough to give me plenty of room in the back. When I'm ready to take off, I just tap my profile "Bryan" and it moves the seat back to normal driving position.
      Having a solo mattress on the passenger side would also remedy this as like you said, you can just keep the passenger front seat moved forward all the time. EXPED does make the solo MegaMat 10 LXW that would work great for that: alnk.to/6xHFmKu

It's 40% of the size and easily fits into even the frunk of the Model Y, while the FMT barely fits into the sub-trunk once it's taken out of the factory seal. Plus, EXPED is a legit top camping company that sells their products in REI in the US, has an incredible team and hand makes these in Zurich, Switzerland, while FMT was run by a single individual that just buys them from an Alibaba manufacturer in China. FMT doesn't make any products. They just resell.

    It’s a shame there is no pumps designed to fit this, for deflation.

      I use the blue one in the video to deflate occasionally, but I can't remember if it's a perfect fit for the deflation side on the EXPED. I know it fit the Travel Sleeper perfectly. Still does deflate it though. I'm sure you can find one on Amazon that uses an adapter.

      Thanks for the reply. Yes perhaps it will work ok. But nothing beats an official pump 😀 Then deflation will take much less time, and it will roll up quite a bit smaller.

    Will this work for the tesla model 3?

      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should, but you will have to squeeze it in there a bit as it won't be a perfect fit. Another option is the MegaMat 10 or 7.5 as well as they might fit a bit better, but will still provide the comfort. You can still click the link and then just select one of those from the dropdown to look at dimensions. alnk.to/6xHFmKu

    Pro tip for any future inflatable beds you do!! JUST USE THE cheap pumps from walmart with an INLET and OUTLET and just switch the heads so it SUCKS OUT ALL THE AIR making it 10000% easier to put away and faster!
