    I think it’s pretty cool that people are legitimately using these cars for adventures. I’ve seen more kitted out Model Y’s in the past 2 years doing gnarly things than almost any other brand of cars. It’s funny because Tesla never said that the Model Y was some type of adventure machine, but when the product is as good and robust as it is, it’s reputation speak for itself. I even saw a Model Y with a slight lift and knobby tires once. Insane lol. I’ve had my Model Y for 2 years now and my wife and I just ordered a tent from Kickstarter that’s gonna be delivered this month. We also ordered a cooler that fits in the sub-trunk, some cooking equipment, sleeping bags, and a new set of tires and wheels to get out adventures started as well. Cheers!

      Nice 👍🏻 Yeah for me it was the ability of Camp Mode that's the game changer. As I mentioned in this video it's the holy grail of camping and that includes RV's. Most have to be outfitted with tons of solar panels and battery packs and installed by a professional. This allows you to control the climate and camp comfortably for days at a time in a regular car that doesn't emit polluting fumes. I just can't wait for the Tesla van, but until then the Cybertruck pulling a trailer will do 😀

    I don't know bout bears in G.Canyon, but you indicated traveling out west... so what do you do for smellables that you have in your car?btw on another subject, Jackery had a tow behind charger, Idk if they killed it or not, but that was at least 2023 CES that I thought I saw it, just thought you might know

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's the occasional black bear in the Grand Canyon area, but not much of a threat. In Grizzly Bear Country (Yellowstone, Grand Tetons) I would use a bear box like I did in my Yellowstone camping video if I was at a campground. Otherwise I would keep things sealed, inside the car and not in a cargo box of any kind. Nice thing about the Model Y is it has dual pane glass and no door handles so you would hear an animal trying to get in. I also make sure to not cook within a 100 yards of my campsite in those areas. As for the Jackery tow behind... never saw that and likely not anything I'd be interested in, but do you remember what was their main purpose for it was? High powered tools? Appreciate you watching 😀

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've overall been happy with Mint. I pay yearly for the unlimited plan. There are times though when trying to upload over hotspot that many of them (Mint or T-Mobile) will be super slow even though I'm paying for full speeds. I think I might bite the bullet and go back to Verizon at some point this summer when my annual plan runs out at Mint so I can get reasonable upload speeds when needed and Verizon always seemed to have great coverage. They have a new plan that gives you 130GB of 5G hotspot along with unlimited on phone for $120/mo. I may look at AT&T too, but had such a bad experience with them years ago I swore them off and like Mint, I'd imagine Boost is deprioritized in heavy use areas behind AT&T customers. My use case is basically when hotel wifi sucks and when Starlink isn't an option because of trees or I'm stealth camping, but need to upload about 15GB of video to TH-cam. I'll give Boost a look though so thank you for the suggestion. 👍🏻

    Hi Bryan, just wondering if you plug in your portable generator to recharge it while your charging up the car? Then when you reach your destination the generator will have more juice & no need to use up car energy??? Lovin’ your vids ✌🏽

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Mark - I actually almost always leave the portable generator plugged into the car's 12v including when I charge up the car. Even a 1500 wH portable battery is only 1.5 kWh's so that's a small portion of the Tesla Model Y's 75 kWh battery pack which is of course always topping off the 12v so even if it had to charge up the portable battery from 0-100%, it would be a very small percentage of the overall 75 kWh. Because of this I just leave it plugged into the car's 12v at all times unless I need to unplug it at a campground or elsewhere to power something outside the car. For instance I used it to power my fridge/freezer in my Yellowstone video while inside my bear box at my campsite. This kept the food safe, myself included, yet powered the fridge all night with minimal loss on energy. Then in the morning when I was ready to checkout of the campsite, I just plugged it back into the car to top itself back off.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mexicanfluency If you're going to travel a lot like me... buy. If you think it'll be a normal amount of miles per year I'd lease.
      The market is changing rapidly and specifically Tesla's as the prices are constantly changing so while resale should be easy and you'll likely get a decent price, it's volatile and Elon makes it even more so.
      If you don't plan to put on a ton of miles (over 15k/year), I'd lease. About the same amount down payment, but the monthly price is way less vs buying. Don't have to worry about trying to resell it after a few years either.

The TESMAT had the bottom boards for support. Was the “unsupported” portion of the mattress an issue while you were sleeping? Good question... I've never had an issue and I even crawl back and forth between the front and back and lean up there all the time. That's basically where your head will be and not all that heavy 😜 so I don't see any issues for you. I'd suggest just hitting the road for a nearby overnight camp and test it out. I honestly don't think the boards did much and the comfort of the EXPED vs the TESMAT is leaps and bounds better. I'm 6ft.

      I’d have to look back at some videos but I only noticed about 5% range loss vs about 25% with the rooftop cargo box. Much more efficient, no added noise and much more versatile as you can use it to cook on or for a Starlink.

    When using the 12volt in the back of Y, are you drawing from the TSLA 4680 battery or the one tiny car battery (the battery all vehicles have installed for lights/accessories and will die in less than 3 years)?
    Anyone knowing that answer - I appreciate you!

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Linda - The way it works in a Tesla is you're pulling directly from the 12v (small battery for lights/accessories), but it's constantly topped off by the larger main battery (in my case the 75kWh made of of 2170 battery pack) so no need to worry about it running out of juice. As long as it's in good condition you can continue to draw from it for things like electric refrigerators for as long as you need. In a traditional gas car this wouldn't be possible as you'd have to drive the car to regain more juice, but in a Tesla (EV) you can just let the main battery pack automatically top off the smaller 12v. Hope that helps 😀

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not. You’re better off just modifying the current one and mounting it on the roof like others have done on their vans or just buy the new Starlink in-motion version and have it mounted to some rails. I don’t really need to use mine when driving so have t thought about it too much.
