Congrats on getting your hands in a decent UR quattro. I have a soft spot for the earlier cars having owned my 84ur for the last 22 years but undeniably the RR was the pinnacle when it comes to the UR (obviously the SQ is a totally different beast and now stratospheric in price). Do drive it a much as you can as a standing WR is not a happy one and they make a great daily. Don’t leave us hanging. Is there any up and coming quattro content planned?
Thank you! I do love the earlier flat front, of course the RR was the one to have I guess but it's always been the early one for me! I don't think I'd daily it but that said I've used it for a lovely weekend away and a few other trips out over the last few months - that said, there is some quattro content planned, as I wish to fix a couple of small bits and we've already had some, er, reliability issues! I've got pneumonia currently so haven't filmed anything myself for a few weeks but hopefully we can revisit it again soon! Cheers! -Owen
What a brilliant introduction video! To have helped someone achieve their dream has truly been an honour, these cars are so special and you are absolutely worthy! Just one thing, your car has a WR engine, not the MB. The MB was only made for 18 months or so and is super hard to get parts for lol

Well done and a charming presentation. Isn't it Tornado Red? It's a lovely example. I was just like you when I was younger, throughout the time I did my degree the Quattro was the target and I eventually landed a D reg (Tornado Red) Quattro Treser. Rose tinted glasses and all that, but I don't think I've owned anything that accelerated like it since. In the same way you won't say what you paid, I won't say what I deeply regret letting it go for. Lovely to see a car like this go to someone who will appreciate it. Well done, again.
Thank you! So tornado red was the same as my 88 Coupe GT - it's a deeper red, mars has a more orange tinge to it. The earlier cars came in mars, and as far as I know tornado came and took over soon ish after! Hard to tell which I prefer, but generally I've preferred the look of the earlier cars so it had to be this one! The colour wasn't deal breaker for me but Ashes to Ashes and all that... it goes! :D

There's 3 engine sounds that I absolutely love: a Toyota 4AGE with ITB's, F1 V10 engines and the Group B Audi Quattro 5-cyl! It's a dream car for a lot of people :) You should take it on some B-roads and film!
Sweet car.. I was in college when these came out. Used to drool all over my buddy’s car magazines featuring this car. THIS car is why I bought a B5 S4 Avant and then would tune it to stage one 330 ish bhp, plus all the other mods that one would do, brakes, suspension etc. For a brief period, I owned the US spec 4000 Quattro, same Mars red as your UrQuattro. Wish I still had both cars. amazing clean car you have. It looks like that was an original 10 valve, single cam motor?
@@OGCarsI bought I 20V Coupe quattro (non-turbo) back in 1996 and had to decide between an ABY stage 2 '84 UrQuattro and the '90 CQ. Being in college I opted for the latter but now wish I had gone for the UrQ. Both were approx. $9000 USD back then.
Congratulatons on the Quattro. Although it sounds like the timing really wasn't ideal (from a finances POV) sometimes you got to bite the bullet, better then waiting another 10 years when they are more like 50k! You also bought a appreciating classic so its a "investment". At least you have a girlfriend who's also passionate about cars else I think you'd be sleeping in your Quattro alongside your four spare wheels haha!

I noticed you planned sorting out some bits and bobs, that seems like a sensible approach to things; I'd change the police baton for a proper antenna, and sort the aluminium pipe for the injector cooling first. Are you also missing a proper gear knob on this one ? More than anything, it's always a quirk to me seeing a RHD with LHD wipers. :D Enjoy!
I had an 88 for ten years. It was two years old when i bought it and i was 22.the brakes were scary as hell and if you kept foot on the brakes at traffic lights , the back lights got hot inside and the bulb circuits would come away from the plastic . The window wonder track would wear out , the door locks had to be replaces and i had to change a section of exhaust every few months . It got written off twice in cases the other car was at fault . I used to have to stick two powerful spotlights when i did a lot of night driving because the headlights are shit but i loved that car for ten years before I had to scrap it after somebody came through a red light , hit me side on and wrecked it .

I can imagine the smell of the interior. My 1985 Audi 80 Sport had a lovely, distinctive smell. Added to the inviting cosiness.

Beautiful car! I drove many of these back in the 90s when they were worth very little. Wish I had bought one and kept it at the time!
It’s crazy how cheap they used to be! There’s receipts for this car in the 90s where a couple of people paid barely over 4k for the car!

As I remember the gear knob was attached when purchased, and the topper flew off while driving back from picking it up!
