Irish spirit Poitín (pronounced po-cheen) is one of the strongest drinks in the world with an alcoholic volume of 40-90%. It is also known as Poteen. It comes from the Irish word 'pota' which means 'pot'. We decided to get some popular branded Poitín from a local source, and see what our Irish People made of it!

My 100% Irish grandpappy brewed White Lightening moonshine in the hills of Alabama, God rest his soul. It was the strongest, roughest thing I've ever tried to swallow. It was completely clear, like water, but it tasted like rubbing alcohol.

I lost a lot of blood, the one time that I got drunk on this stuff. We had a dram in 1/2 a pint of Guinness, followed by a dram in 1/2 a pint of cider, Then repeated those 2 drinks.
It was a very hot St. Pat's evening in Perth (Australia), and the pub was beautifully air conditioned. We hopped in a 5min taxi ride to the next pub, as things started to take hold/fall apart. The next thing I knew, the Wandoo threshold step lept up (unprovoked, I'm sure) and split me eyebrow open.
Despite that, it was a great night.
