      Like any building tech costs more to start but long term savings could be phenomenal, and as other said in places that would otherwise be difficult to bring building materials (not just offworld) this would be huge

      I imagine the cost saved is in the externalities of construction. There is a significant amount of waste on typical construction sites. Wasted resources = wasted money + wasted potential. The labor aspect also looks far less demanding.

      I think that would cause the "homeless" population to rise. Why would some want to pay for a house when they can act homeless and get a house for free? On the same note, why wouldn't everyone feel "unsafe" in shelters...if they feel unsafe, they get a free house. What could be great is building a bunch of cheap homes in undesirable areas and letting the homeless live there. Get them off the streets and out of good real estate areas. To qualify they would need to work for some type of government program to help "pay" back the taxpayers or at least help maintain the system they take from.

    @notlessgrossman163 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This makes sense for southern climates, that would otherwise be built with CMU concrete blocks (in winter subzero climate airtightness and insulation is obligatory). But what is the drying curing time? A rain fall could ruin the print halfway through. What about foundation and anchors? The demo shows a print of a flat warehouse floor. Steel rebars would still be needed to anchor walls to some conventional concrete foundation.
    More testing is needed

    • @Trenz0
      @Trenz0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the best way to look at these types of projects is as a proof of concept. The electric car has existed for years, but it wasn't until last decade that they truly saw their potential. Regardless, I don't think the idea for printed homes to be for every use case. The primary interest is when you need a LOT of structures built quickly. At this current iteration, what comes to mind is quickly creating shelters for refugees or another situation where hundreds or more people suddenly need shelters to accommodate.

    Concrete is normally reinforced. Why is the windmill support not reinforced? Concrete is good under compression but rubbish under tension. When the windmill shakes, parts of the base are under tension and will develop cracks. During sub-zero temperatures water will creep into the cracks, freeze, expand and increase the cracks. How is this handled in 3D printing concrete?

  • @compltfool
    @compltfool ปีที่แล้ว

    Swimming pools will need a different concrete mix, Right now I build gunnite pools in Florida and It would be great to print a pool , but it may take a few years to get the mix right since water causes concrete to cure, The mixture may crack due to excessive curing and also sun exposure. I would buy a cobod now if I knew I could get a perfect mix for pools.

    It's just amazing to read how ignorant people are in the comments. Do you think that when you pay $1 million for a home, it's because it costs $1 million to build the home itself? No, the cost is primarily in the land. That's why housing is expensive. While advancements in home construction can help reduce the cost, it's not going to change the reality that land is very expensive. Don't expect a flood of cheaper housing with this technology.

      Land varies in cost depending on where you’re buying. The point here is, that instead of only being able to spend 80,000 dollars on a piece of land, because you have to spend 200,000 on the house itself, you can now spend 200,000 on the land, because the house costs 80,000 printed.

Can be anything from synthetics to steel strands mixed in, and as far as breaking the stuff down with a excavator and a hydraulic hammer, bigger pita than traditional rebar. Also more expensive as far as I know. Course, you don't pay for as much rebar.

I also invented the iPod in my head long ago. But I figured you could give the device away free with the perches of the PC program and buy the songs. They would make money selling the digital songs. I didn't know back then that everyone would just steal the music for free.
