My whole family loves these cars my cousin Walter got one before I did and what made me fall in love with it he was on an icy Road and slid off the road went into a ditch and the car literally held together and that car drove itself out of that ditch never incident my friend Mark had one snowy icy conditions up here in these mountains where I live and he slid off the road driver's door into a tree at 55 miles an hour car door would not open he crawled over to the passenger side walked out of the car my mom bought one after she see mine she has an 06 Taurus got into a car wreck and walked out engine destroyed radiator smushed into the motor Hood went up into the V like it was supposed to and that car kept her safe the airbags deployed on her car and she walked out without a scratch without anything that impact was so bad the windshield was broke the back window smashed out the window and the door was smashed and the windows behind the door was smashed and she walked out without a scratch these cars are very safe very reliable if you get an engine light on for code 460 that's a fuel level sensor in the dashboard behind the radio not many people know that these cars are very fun to drive I even token mine down quad Trails up in these quad chairs near my old house where I used to live and she crawled right through them without even getting the stuff she only got stuck one time because the dip was too big of a dip and she got stuck but she was able to rock herself out without needing a tow
for the 09 how did you make out with transmission? and 3.5 motor did you have internal water pump leak? just curious was it your favorite over the other years? thx
It depends on whether you got the AX4S or AX4N, that and a mixture of maintenance and a lot of good luck. My aunt's got to 272k and it was the engine ( not the transmission) that died first.
Nice-looking car. I actually kinda liked the previous gen's crazy oval-centric styling too, but I guess I'm one of the few in that camp. It was a bit overdone.
Modifications you can do put Mustang fuel injectors from the 3.8 Mustang Cobra on to your chores but to do this you need to upgrade the throttle body so that online the upgrade part and you can also upgrade the exhaust to a dual exhaust you can also without doing those my sister in one month you will get over a hundred horsepower boost by putting a supercharger on you can also put a turbo on these cars these engines can handle a lot of stuff they have websites all over to buy high performance parts for these cars mine is built mine out ran a stock Mustang 5.0 outran a Thunderbird outran a V8 Crown Vic outran a Chevy Impala SS by yes I am Eminem I lost to a Chevelle and I also lost 2 a Torino but I will say this car has a lot of Giddy Up and Go
This should have been the Taurus from 1996 to 2001 then in 2002 the first generation fusion should have been the Taurus until 2007 and then the fusion now from 2007 to 2012.
krzrrazrrokr I disagree. I believe the third generation and the fourth generation Taurus should have been sold the other way around. The fourth generation should have been sold during the third generation and the third generation one should have been sold during the fourth generation in 2000-2007. It would have been able to slide its way in without too much controversy. Its more of a gradual change that way too!

I had a 96 GL with the Duratec, Chrome wheels, floor shift loaded and it wasn't a bad car and as matter of fact that car had more standard options and looked more upscale than this 3rd gen refresh that ppl call 4th gen but really isn't! The 2000 looks basic, no dual exhaust, or nicer chrome wheels , or painted rockers little things that made more upscale trims stand out from base ones
Matt Hybel Yeah really I only like the 2004-2007 ones of the Fourth Generation. I prefer 1998-1999 on Third. With the front split bench seating. Glad you still own a Taurus. I want to get one of these when I am older.

I do too, a lot of older Taurus sedans and a couple wagons here in the Midwest as of 2023. This 2000 model has aged very well in my opinion.
The transmissions were crap on these. Rode in one that went out at 140k miles.
