Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and workaround. I asked Goodereader about this but they were very vague. Also, if you own a Kobo Clara BW, can you please compare its speed and clarity with the new Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen? Many people (like me) would be wanting out of the Kindle ecosystem and would like to consider the alternatives.
Yes, at least on iPhone, you can send any epub files to Kindle using the app. Just long press on the file, tap “share” and select kindle. A few seconds later, the epub appears on your kindle library, both on the kindle device and the app.
As much as I would like to get a new paperwhite, hearing that you can't download your books via USB with the new kindles,I might not get it. Or, I might download my books from my 11th gen paperwhite first.
Could you please make a video showing the conversion of a personal file to the Kindle format, from a simple PDF to EPUB? On my Kindle 12 generation this PDF to EPUB conversion does not work.
Does this work? (It's what I do with my 11Gen). Install the Kindle App on your phone (mine is Android). Download the PDF onto your phone. Open your File Folder on the phone, long press the pdf, or press the 3 dots menu with the file selected. Choose Send To, choose the Kindle app. You will get the option to keep the original layout or convert it. For most pdfs, choose this latter unless the doc has loads of pictures (manuals for appliances) The first time you do this, keep a watch for an email from Amazon asking you to confirm that this is OK. Ifp this doesn't work on the newst Kindles, it will wipe out a big part of the usefulness of the Kindle to me and it will be time to wave Amazon Kindles a tearful goodbye. So many of us no longer own a PC.
@@GalaxyFur did you watch the video? You can no longer download your books via USB if all you have is one of the new Kindle models! Bad move by Amazon! Why? Because for those of us who like to download and manage our own library separately from the Amazon cloud, most are likely to keep older Kindles (in order to keep downloading our purchased books via USB) instead of buying new Kindle offerings. Especially when other devices exist, devices which let you upload your books onto them from any online store. Devices like the ones from Pocketbook, etc.
@@rudiphoto did *you* actually watched the video? Amazon only removed the ability to download the book copy from kindle store to your PC. You can still upload whatever book you want via USB to Kindle device. If you downloading the book to remove DRM and send it to other reader device, maybe just get the book via other means, since you will be violating Kindle Store terms of use anyway.
@rudiphoto You obviously did not watch the video. /)_< I can still upload and maintain every book purchased from online book stores. Only Amazon purchased books have drm which they always have had.
That's really useful information. Amazon addressing DRM removal by not allowing you to download the file you've paid for.

Wait!? What?!!! I can't download MY eBooks to my computer?! Thats a nasty move by Amazon!!
Did you watch the video?
Nope. Not via USB transfer. I’ve already had words w/ the reps via chat
Sadly, they are not “your books”; you’ve only paid a license fee to use them. You own nothing.
Tell the EU about this not being able to store to another device. They are trying to create a monopoly and Vestager hates that idea with any company.
Awesome video, as usual 😊 Can you still send books to your kindle device using the app?
Thank you. You can still use ' Send to Kindle ' email address which works fine. AFAIK Kindle app doesn't allow you to import/upload books.

@@JoseManuel1983 Tested just now on Android and indeed it works. Thanks for sharing!
Apparently it's only the Mac. Windows still allows you to do it. Also, thankfully, I still have an 11th gen paperwhite.

Does anyone know how to get it read on iPad?
I returned my Kindle 12th Gen. No downloads, no Kindle.
All Amazon did was change the protocol. The new Kindles still have those same capabilities as the older ones.
