    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not considered desirables. We can't give any medical advice so you'd have to look elsewhere if you're looking for that side of things. But the idea with making concentrates is to concentrate the desirables, the things that do good things for us or have positive traits people are seeking, and the lipids and wax are generally considered not to be that. So to have the best concentrate, you'd want to limit those. There will always be some though when making full spectrum concentrates which is not an issue.

    If I wanted to winterize my extraction, how many filtration passes should I be doing between extraction and starting winterization?

    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would probably want to winterize the wash. You can do as little as 1 and as many as 3. Most people using frozen methods like QWET and colder cryo temps find that one winterization pass is sufficient.

    Should the ethanol extraction remain cold or room temperature during the filtration?

    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'll want everything as cold as possible before making the ethanol extraction, and also after the plant material and ethanol are combined and back in the freezer. Once you take the ethanol extraction out for filtration, you'll want to work fast to avoid letting it continue soaking at room temperature. Once you do your first filtration, the rush is over and it's fine for the now filtered ethanol extraction to get to room temperature.

      @@Jacksonjames4 Its not arrogant, its accurate. The pumps are tuned to operate at various elevations to modulate the balance between ambient pressure, vacuum pressure, ambient temp and heat delivery. "How strong are the pumps" is not something that factors into the equation at all. They are tuned to facilitate the operations of the unit detailed in the user manual. I'm not trying to be arrogant, its just the best answer there is to the question. Furthermore, when it comes to a vacuum pump performance measure it is either the speed it evacuees the air volume defined as cubic feet per minute or ultimate vacuum level, there is really no answer for "how strong is it." We tune the pumps for specific operations that are detailed in the user manual and thats the only measure.

      It just won't work that way. These filters are very fine, about 20-25um for the fast flow and 3um for the slow flow. If you poured into these without vacuum, the tincture would just sit there. You need vacuum to pull through these fine filter papers.

      Depends on what you are making. Topicals and edibles, no real problem. Smoking/vaping it’s debatable. Rosin has tons of fats and lipids which kind of ruins it for a lot of people and isn’t good for the lungs, so, I think it’s better and cleaner to have them removed. Removing the undesirables also increases potency and smoothness. Lastly, if making carts it’s important to remove as they will cloud, precipitate our, and clog the cart

    Can I use this vacuum process to winterize rosin?

    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just for clarity I'm going to change the wording here a little from "vacuum process" to "ethanol winterizing process" to make sure we are talking about the same thing. So if you are asking if you can use our machine for the ethanol winterizing process with rosin that is absolutely correct and possible. There is a good article "winterizing & polishing extracts using ethanol" on extract crafter.com (extractcrafter.com/2017/12/04/winterizing-polishing-extracts-using-ethanol/) if you would like to take a look. There's actually another great compliment between ethanol and rosin. You can use the ethanol extraction method to recover all the good stuff left behind in your pressed chips, pucks, and bags so you don't waste anything.

      This operation (evacuating the flask) takes a few seconds. The hose is intentionally not very long and the fittings are barbed at both ends. As long as the base is pumping, the hose is not likely to just fall off. You don't really need to hold it.

    I really gotta know, what is the actual difference if you were to use a hand pump instead of the machine’s pump? And if I were to use the Source’s pump on a much bigger flask, let’s say 3L flask, would that in anyway harm the machine. I read somewhere that it’s possible to because not enough pull force is happening. If you take the time to answer these questions for me, it would really be appreciated. Thanks.

    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hand pumps move less air, the Source Turbo moves more air. A 3L might be ok but a 5L is far too much air volume. Unfortunately, it is Easter Morning so I may not be able to field customer service questions from TH-cam for the rest of the day. If you have questions about the machines then directing them to customer service at info@extractcraft will be handled during normal business hours.

  • @jasoncthomas
    @jasoncthomas 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your waxes and lipids are not being filtered out. They are in solution with the alcohol. In order to remove the waxes and lipids, you must bring the solution down to -10 to -80 degrees to cause the fats and waxes to precipitate out of solution and form globules. Then, you must filter immediately, preferably with a frozen funnel. You must refreeze for at least 3 hours with dry ice, or 24 hours in the deep freezer, between each filtration in order to re-coagulate the fats each time.

    • @ExtractCraftVideos
      @ExtractCraftVideos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Much of what you say here is correct and much is a little off base for what we do. First, yes fats and waxes can be filtered out at this point depending on the process that was used. Room temp primary extraction, then no. Frozen QWET up front, then yes. And if you use cryo temps for the extraction, absolutely not making it into the tincture. As for the "preferably frozen funnel," this is a typical amateur error thinking they have to keep everything as frozen as possible the whole time which isn't true. It's wrong for two reasons. First, moisture condenses and freezes on all surfaces of the funnel which will add moisture to your wash, not a good idea. Second, with winterization, the process you are describing, keeping the solution to about 20F below room temp should be enough to keep the lipids and fats in suspension to be filtered out, you can keep colder if you choose but there is a large margin and no reason to over think it. Lastly, for a regular freezer you need to leave in for at least 48 hours for proper precipitation. You will find that if you use cryo temps from the beginning the winterization is most likely not necessary
