What very lovely playing - restrained and un-egotistical... the speed seems just right for the music, and allows the musicians to bring out each rhetorical gesture in an unfolding dialogue. I loved this!

He didn't compose those chords, the Ciaccona dance is a ground bass, which was part of the music tradition since much earlier than Cazzati. Every early baroque composer (mainly Italian) wrote a ton of pieces on those chords.
This is a 'minimalist' version, clear and direct, which is great. I've heard several instrumentations of this piece, including woodwinds and even electrical instruments. But I wonder what was the original Cazzati's idea of arrangement...
I know that this is five years old, but just in case you were still wondering, during this time period in Italy and Spain, the Ciaconna was a dance in 3 that many composers wrote variations for. Although by the time Schmelzer and Bach came around, the Ciaconna wasn't really a dance with variations written around a pre-existing theme, instead it became a piece with an established bass line that was written in some form 3.
Fantastic! Thank you for this exquisite musical offering.

I love this Ciaccona! I wish that it would go on and on... but ciacconas are short. Replay. Replay. Bravo!
@Ayotide Baptiste Bach, 20 minutes

Stupenda CIACCONA Grazie
Magnifique Merci Thanks for posting
believe or not, this man created every number 1 hit pop music to this day thanks to the 4 chords he composed

Cazzati, less prolific, but no less passionate in his communion via composition than his temporal peers. Delicate and sensual.

Skynard and the Allman Brothers must have listened to Baroque Ciacconas to create their dualing guitars. I like this better.

No. E' Claudia Combs.
Did he just blantently plagarize Merula or what!? Or was it the other way around!?

@jacekzakopane zgadzam sie w 100%
Perfect!
