A Critique of Kenneth Copeland's "Supernatural Heatwave" Video

- Come along on a journey with me... a journey through one of Kenneth Copeland's "sermons." I laughed. I cried. I cringed. I jest, but I've been wanting to talk about Kenneth Copeland for a while, and I decided this video was a good starting point to fairly critique his teachings.
A lot of people don't actually believe that Kenneth Copeland teaches the things he does. Some think it was something he said once in the 80s that he can't possibly still teach. This is my attempt to give some thoughts on why his teachings are more theatrical than biblical, and why he should be avoided. Let's be sure to pray for him.
I purposely didn't edit out a lot of the talk and the long pauses in between his sentences, simply for context and making the point of showing his speaking style.
This was my first time doing a sort of screen share video and did have audio issues that hopefully don't come through too much.

All these years, I thought I was the only one who thought his eyes were demonic. I cannot watch him (or his wife) without feeling a darkness that scares me. I was so relieved to know it wasn't just me being overly critical! I agree with Marilyn - whatever he's filled with, it's definitely not the Holy Spirit. It's more about him playing God. And that's scary.
“ You Don’t go to God because you need stuff, you go to God because you need Him”. Love that. I think you and I had the same facial reactions during his “ so called sermon”. Thanks for this video.

It was John 16:23, where Jesus tells the apostles “Amen Amen I say to you, whatever you ask from the Father, He will give it to you in My name”.
I'm so old I'm not even sure I know what a millennial is but, if this young woman is an exemplar then, for heaven's sake: Live Long and Prosper! Most folks with her strato-intellect have issues with humility. This lady is a crystal-clear communicator, a pleasure to listen to, delightful to look at, has a gentle and pleasing sense of humor and is unselfconsciously humble in a most endearing way. He’s not even saying anything about anything. This isn’t even ear itching this is straight rambling. This is why people will remain lost if they don’t learn the word for themselves.
So true. I've felt the Lord convict me of this also. Church is great, reading sound Christian books are great, but if you don't get to know God on your own and read His word everyday, you'll be taken away with the current. Its quite scary listening to KC as he really is rambling, yet his church followers think he makes sense!
@@jayneschwalger7554 That's what I always try to do. Seek God first, then look at the world and see what makes sense and is right and what isn't. Also there are so many things God says that the world will explain differently. Anything, forced, crazy, abusive, etc. does not come from God.
"This is why people will remain lost if they don’t learn the word for themselves." You're so right! Most people have never read the Bible for themselves and don't understand what it says. If they knew the Bible, they would be forearmed to fight off misrepresentations like this.

I've started saying to quit reading the Bible and start studying it, along with the original language words to help explain the CONTEXT.

That's funny because a short while back I referred to tactics creationist Kent Hovind used as "B.S.tianity." Because unlike Christians like me and Ms. Doughherty who try to lead humble lives in following Christ, you've got pinheads like Copeland who spread B.S. to line their pockets.
The long pauses, laughter, groans, moans, yelling, etc have a purpose. I grew up in a hyper charismatic WOF church and those things were taught to be an anointing that was so powerful that it became difficult for the anointed person to function physically. It’s demonic and it’s for dramatic effect and also allows a 10 minute sermon to last 45 minutes.
Also, the “pretending it’s hot” thing is an example of the WOF teaching of James 2. (Faith without works is dead). For example, if you broke your leg and you proclaim healing you must get up and walk in order for your leg to be healed. If you didn’t your Faith was dead and wouldn’t work.
Many people have made their illness worse because they stopped taking their medication.
Yes , Word of Faith is so dangerous ! Let’s all pray for those false teachers and the lost sheep, who so easily fall into these traps.
Lord Jesus, please soften Kenneths heart and mind to you, and deliver him from the darkness, and demons. Please call him out of the darkness God. For your glory Father, amen.
I must commend you for praying for this man. I commented that we should pray for him, then I stumbled upon your prayer and found it very loving of you, and was able to agree with you in prayer. Amen.
Amen. I think he really believes he is doing the right thing. He is VERY MISINFORMED OR IS BLINDED WITH A SPIRITUAL VEIL OF DECEPTION. LORD PLEASE DELIVER MR COPELAND AND MAY HIS LOVE OF MONEY BE EXPOSED BY A LOVING MERCIFUL GOD.

Melissa Dougherty They have no fear of God. I find it hard to believe that he is this old and really believes the things that come out his mouth. He is in his 80’s. He will meet the Lord soon. Unless he repents and soon he will not have a good ending.
I felt a check in my spirit regarding Kenneth Copeland and the entire faith movement many years ago. I think this breaks our Father God's heart, such a black eye to the body of Christ. No wonder so many have turned away from the church.

I remember being a kid and seeing him on tv. I felt something was off then. I was maybe 7-8 years old. I just remember always changing the channel quickly. God gave me discernment even as a babe.

Kenneth is actually insane...but has masterfully created space for millions of others to adore him, and become insane with him.
After his declaration of a strong south wind and a heatwave there were unusually LOW temperatures in Texas. The following day and the week after I believe, it was unseasonably COLD ! The LORD God almighty will NOT be mocked !
I've read similar comments on other videos rebuking Copeland. God is almighty. And we should all be thankful when he reminds us we are not,lol. My guess is Copeland is too wrapped up in himself to notice what the lord is doing.

It's been quite cold for this time of year here in Maryland, as well. We even had a light snow recently! I've had to wear my jacket outside since mid-March. It's usually short sleeved or tank top weather here around this time, or at least close to it. I've seen several people claiming that KC is a true prophet and "general of the faith" and that there's really been a heatwave all across the country since this sermon 😒

So you all are God's judges, how do you know this stuff that God doesn't want them to be rich? I believe as I read the Bible we need to be rich, where in the Bible does it say God wants us poor but it's ok for the world to be rich? I have a hard time watching him. My mom watched him, believing in what he taught, supported the ministry, always tried to preach to my siblings...it has turned them away from Christianity. I'm a believer in Jesus, God's only son, learning the Word verse by verse, in the Hebrew meaning...
This makes me sick and sad as it's so hard to reach my brother, sisters, children with the Truth. My mom's last year on earth was spent drawing close to Jesus, reading the Word, and having true peace with her relationship with God! I'm sad she was caught up in his ministry, all she wanted was Jesus! She's with Him now. Please pray for my family to accept Christ. My uncle, HIGHLY admired in my family, by his seven brothers and sisters, gave money to Copeland. My uncle ascribed to a combination of Christianity and Zen Buddhism, and I recall everyone thinking he was oh-so-deep and wise. Ugh! It makes me sick. My mom died in 1985, after a very painful, drawn out death with cancer. I can only pray she knew the right Jesus.

My dear lady I don't know why we spent so much time talking about who is false or who it doesn't personally I never like the way he preaches or how he focuses in money or any other preacher that do the same but I believe he will eventually be judge by God all mighty, so why don't we that have the "sound doctrine" teach the real word of God? I've been a Christian for almost 40 years. I've been in full-time ministry in Pentecostal churches for 25 years. I have to say that nothing has changed over 2,000 years. As the Apostle Paul had to deal with the so-called Super Apostles (See 2Cor 11) of his day, so do we. Nevertheless, we have this encouragement, God will honor those who honor his Word. ~thanks Melissa

Kenneth Copeland started this ministry a long time ago, and was very popular on Trinity broadcasting Network for quite some time since the late '70s. Even back then I thought he was weird, him and Benny Hinn alsoTerry Poppoff. I do not recommend any of these people for Bible study.
Why don't they go to all the hospitals and cancer places and heal everybody. I believe in healing but God doesn't heal everyone.

I got caught up in the “Faith” movement years ago. The Holy Spirit lead me out of this cult. I’m 80 years old now and praise God He is faithful to His Word ... the real Word in context of Truth. Cherry picking is the best words for these charlatans.
I watched a couple of his t.v. Sermons in the early 80’s, and the Holy Spirit helped me see how dangerous he was. He’s a heretic. Thank you for reviewing this sermon. It’s also interesting that he’s turned off his comments on his TH-cam channel.

The way he wanders in his speaking makes me think he's senile. I'm watching this in January 2021, and 1) we had a very cool summer, and 2) covid is a strong as ever!
It’s really sad, many many years ago, I was a new Believer, heard him, read his books, but now I see the manipulation, I thank God that He opened my eyes, to see through this, let’s pray for eyes to be opened and the Spirit of Deception to leave Gods children alone, to whom much is given, much is required, we all have to give an account one day, I rather be a door keeper in the house of the Lord, than to dwell in the tents of the wicked, we shall pray in Unity and Harmony and Love, that all these Prosperity Preachers be exposed in Jesus Name. Does it ever seem like people like him seem to view the bible as some sort of spell casting book rather than a history of god's people and a guide towards him? They read the text but they always seem to miss the message/meaning in the very text they read.

Definitely. I once saw a book which was a long list of different verses taken completely out of context which could be used for all sorts of problems in life, and all you had to do was repeat them over and over. I can't remember which verse was used, but I recall there being one for sunburn. I called it the Christian Spellbook.

It’s because many people do not know the Word of God, and the Spirit of God for themselves.. People assume that all of his personal revelations are really from God. They assume that he is receiving divine revelations from God almost daily. There are also others that claim to receive such revelations too often.

Some of these people claim that God is speaking to them, and giving them “new” revelations almost daily. Well, try, (test), the spirits to see whether they are of God.. We test them by God’s Word. If they don’t agree with the Word. -exactly, they are not of the Lord. We know that He does truly give true knowledge and revelations, but they will always agree with His Word. The true God always speaks, and works according to His own Word. He never does anything independently of His own Word..
What I find fascinating is once you remove the audience and their applause and whooping it really truly becomes a case of the emperor has no clothes..

Kenneth is so full of himself, I honestly doubt he would listen to sound doctrine. He has open his spirit to a legion demons. You can hear them when he growling out scriptures ( making other strange sounds) and his speaking in tongues wasn't praising Jesus. It sounded like demonic chanting that you hear in horror movies.
This is the kind of comment I wish we could see more of.

Can you honestly see this guy repenting? I wonder what that would look like? I think he's "all in" on this thing whatever it is. Jim Baker tried to backpedal from his schemes and it didn't work. So did Jimmy Swaggert and other TV preachers. Usually they ride the wreckage to the bitter end.

That is so true. I used to watch him on T.V. years ago and he is definitely not the man he used to be. There is something very demonic in his eyes and his entire being. I fear for him but I also pray for him.

We watched him every Sunday night on Ch.20 in the D.C. area.
Well, he has STRANGELY become a different man over the decades.
And it's a strange and scary thing.
What's worse...are the people who "partner up" with him and other type preachers. That is a very strange and weird crowd of people!!
I got totally away from that whole crowd many years back.
I also noticed how "neutered" he appeared without hundreds of deceived parishioners cheering him on. He feeds off of that emotion from them.

As someone who has came out of word of faith or the prosperity message the one item you do not hear much about is the sovereignty of Jesus. I have seen people hurt when they are told that either they don’t have enough faith or even worse. I truly believe that people do not have a real understanding of what faith is and one of the reasons for that is people just don’t do their homework. Don’t be afraid to question what people are saying and do your homework! Great video !

It's preachers like this that give Christianity a bad name. He's an embarrassment and disgraceful. I honestly believe he may be possessed. Just watch those eyes. If he was just someone out on the street he would be taken in to the nearest mental hospital and people would shake their heads and say 'oh that poor soul'.

Hello my sister, it's true what you say about Kenneth Copeland. He is truly not from God. But let me advise you. We as children of God do have power to raise the dead, heal the sick and many many more miracles and healings. Moses and Elijah were mere men but they did great things because they were under the annointing of the Holy God. Now let me tell you of a man in our modern times. I know of a man who prayed and and aids victims was healed. I saw in a vision a meteor comming down in a fiery blaze but was stopped by a Man of God. I saw again in a vision a great tsunami comming over the earth but was stopped by a mere mortal man in the spirit of the Lord Almighty. We can control the weather, we can call out the wind and stop the tsunami. Kenneth Copeland knows that because he was once a true man of God before he sold his soul for money and fame. If you a rebuke a demon in the name of Jesus, it will flee. If you say I am poor you will be poor. If you say I am not sick, you will not be sick. My sister if you had all the power would you not allow your children to inheret at least some of your powers. So just like our father he has not given us a spirit of Fear but of Power and Might. My sister you speak wonderful but you are of little FAITH. Speak to me, I have much to tell you of FAITH. It truly can move MOUNTAINS.

Part of that is before social media and internet it was difficult to expose someone like him now in todays world its difficult for him to hide who he really is all things done in the dark will come to the light
