As a former Geography teacher I enjoy your geological information. Cheers from Australia.

Thank you, that means a lot. One of my favorite parts of geology and rockhounding is knowing the how and why behind the rocks.

Oooh, next time you’re out in AZ let me know. I’d love to take you guys out to look for rocks. Most of the pieces you got probably don’t have bark on the. The trees were conifers so the bark would be very chunky and rough and since they were tumbling around in the Triassic river before being fossilized, that’s why you don’t see small limbs or bark. What you’re seeing is more likely the texture of the cambium just under the bark. Not any less cool though. You got some great specimens there. 😁👍🏻

We'd love to next time we're out there!...whenever that may be, probably not soon :( You've got so many great places out there. And yeah, you're definitely right about it not being the bark, I've realized that since taking them home and getting a better look/understanding of them.

@@RockandRoadRockhounding no worries, it’s an open invitation. I used to work at Petrified Forest. There are so many cool fossils there. And they keep discovering new ones! 😁

Did you work for the Park Service??? I was a ranger for 3 years (at different parks). Petrified Forest is one of my favorites to visit though.

Thank you! Yeah, I feel like the petrified wood from Arizona is pretty different than most places, or at least compared to other places I've found it.

My son is in college in Phoenix will definitely need to take him out there when I visit. Can't believe all that rainbow wood only cost $140

It's definitely worth a visit! I couldn't believe it either, I expected to walk away paying a lot more.

New sub, sitting in Holbrook waiting for morning to go to the ranch. Hope I find some colors as nice as what you found. I too make TH-cam videos, a mix of gold prospecting and rockhounding. Thanks for sharing this video.

That's exciting! Good luck, I hope you find some good stuff out there. It's one of my favorite places. I'll have to check out your channel.

I'm going to have to take a drive up there, it's about 3 -4 hours away. I also want to figure out where the geodes are, there supposed to be here somewhere in arizona!

It's definitely worth the trip! I think there are a few geode beds in Arizona, but I haven't been to any of them (yet). If you do make it out there, good luck with your finds!

Do you have an Etsy store? I would love some of that. Even one piece. How do you polish do you use a high tech so that you can leave one side natural?

I do have an Etsy store! It's www.etsy.com/shop/rockandroad. I actually I finally got around to posting a few small pieces of the petrified wood for sale today. I'm planning on getting some of the bigger pieces listed in the shop tomorrow. I have a high tech flat lap, but this material has a lot of natural cracks so I've only polished up a few small pieces so far, but I'm working on getting more done.
