Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: This place is amazing! If I won the lottery... I'd make a beeline for this place! The sunset colors of petrified wood take my breath away!
That was absolutely awesome! My goodness the different colors and pictures in the wood was outstandingly beautiful! I was totally floored by its beauty! Thank you so much Dave and Sweet Jim, for the video and information! It was mind blowing!
I didn't know Pet Wood came in so many wonderful colors either Lisa. Now I have even MORE I need to buy. Maybe I should start selling some stuff so that I can buy more?!!
I've been there several times. Absolutely love wandering through the shop and grounds! Always end up with lots of great treasures to take home. Love it!
Thank you so much for this episode, just fascinating. I am in Australia so can't just drive to see this, and I do appreciate the variety you present. The pieces on display are one offs and a delight for collectors. I have a piece of opal fossilized timber and love it, but reckon not much could match the rainbow colours of these pieces.
Stopped there on my way from CA to TX in Nov 2020 and it was amazing!!!! I didn't have nearly enough money to get what I wanted. I would recommend any Rockhound to make it a stop on any road trip through the area!
I like all of it but I really like the stuff just looks like a tree limb etc. I've got few pieces like that. In my collections. I seen a pine cone other day that had turn to stone was pretty cool
The plaster trick is useful even for a rank amateur with an angle grinder and some diamond pads...like me. Gotta remember that one. Some of the items in the private collections made me all kinds of envious, like the red mortar and pestle that would look very nice indeed in my kitchen, and that lovely malachite and marble (?) chess set.
Enjoying your videos man! We've probably crossed paths for sure. I recently came across a good bit of large Jasper stones here in New Mexico. Northern New Mexico. I'm in Colfax County. There is no one here that can help me slab it. Any ideas? Taos is 90 miles and a 2hr drive from here.
This is the first time I've ever seen about rainbow petrified wood and now I'm hooked!! You mentioned a good book about abates. Can you tell me the name of the book and its authors name please? Hope you're all having an awesome day! X
Jim Gray does not have his own claim. He is on a ranchers land, and he is paying the rancher for the mineral rights. The DoBells have their own claim. Their property touches the park. Actually the government took some land from the DoBells to make the park. Jim Gray is relocating his wood to the shop where are you are at, from the ranchers leased land.
@@lapidarydave darn, I might have gone there if they sold the rough wood. About 20 years ago I went on some field trips to the area through another shop up there, the one with a very large dinosaur out front. Not sure if it is still there or not? I think they sold their ranch to the Petrified Forest state park last I had heard. We could collect the very best material for only $1 per pound. I bought 1000 lbs! lol! All handpicked, best colors possible! I still have some but am running low now.....crappy stuff is like $10 per pound now on eBay! lol!
@lapidarydave ha, that's an oxymoron. No pun, with the highest respect I'm going to cut into it in a few days with a tilesaw for porcelain and see what happens.
Sweet Jim! Remembered and missed by people he didn't even know. Sweet Jim was probably a great bud to have around.
One of the all time best

Quit slacking life is going by, you will never live again, ever.
Earthy sublime tones, that occasionally surprise you when they jump to bright.

I love yellow petrified wood.
The different mineral from the volcanic ash the 340 square mile massive floating wood dabre pile sat in did an awesome number on the wood.
Buy all the petrified pine cones you can find they always hold their value
Looking good, Jim. Jack SWG
