Sometimes I do wish i got this golf R instead of my WRX.
I had a 15 STI and the tech alone made me get rid of it I have a Q50 now golf R looks cool though
+semiautoriflelover1 I paid 38K the golf R and focus RS have way better infotainment for the same price! Yes the car was firm on the streets but I get the same handling from my Q50 and tech and power so why not have it all
+exit07 The only thing the WRX is missing is the hatchback, If I want a sporty hatch with manual and awd there's basically just the golf R and the upcoming RS but both are in a higher price bracket.
+exit07 I rather a fully loaded forester xt for less and is a lot more practical.
+exit07 I'm tempted to trade my fully loaded WRX for this, the R just looks amazing imho. I'm just concern about the resale value of the R as the Rex is legendary with their resale value.

Thanks for showing the telescoping wheel! I'm getting an R in the next couple of weeks and I'm a shorter driver who's never had a wheel that telescopes. It was nice to see that in action!

Nice video! Very thorough, and the 4K is amazingly sharp. I drove over to East Coast VW from Florence, SC and test drove this exact car on 9/30. Decided I had to have one, but I wanted it in Lapiz Blue and with the "DCC & Nav" package. I found one just like that down in Gainesville, FL, and I picked it up last week! Thanks for the informative video - somehow I hadn't even noticed that little compartment to the left of the steering wheel yet! :-)

I've been looking at the Golf R online today and just saw you made a video about it! Other than more power and the glowing lights inside, what's the difference between an R and a GTI?
+AJ Z. The main differences is the massive increase in HP and torque, 4 motion all-wheel-drive, dual clutch transmission and more engine/turbo cooling. The R is also more rare and they tend to sell fast! This car literally sold while I was making the video and the customer allowed me to finish my video before he took the car.

im thinking of getting this or the focus rs. pictures and video the focus seems like the better car. in person the golf r seems to be the better car.
now the focus seems to outperform the vw but most of the reviews comparing the 2 the focus rs is on cup tires and the vw is on regular tires.
not to mention the compare reviews are manual to manual. put cup tires on the vw and with dsg and dynamic stability control and the vw seems the better choice.
finally the vw can do double duty. it can be a normal car and a hotrod. focus rs is just hotrod all the time.
wish it was called the GTI-R or the R-"Something". kust being "Golf R" makes it sounds like a sporty Golf slotted below the GTI. I know it's not but it seems like manufacturers are not at all creative with car names anymore

This car starts out very nice but as time goes by and things break or malfunction, a Scion tC looks like a better car. Not as quick but drop dead reliable.

1:13 Look at the exterior specs. It has the LED Daytime Running Lights package which includes rear LED lights. Plus, at 7:44, you can see the "L" shapes of the rear lights. Those are LED.
belive me this are not led light in my contry we all love vw cars and we know more about vw cars than USA or other american contrys
Mike you need to learn more about the car to talk about the features that make this car unique. You covered none of those. also take a look at the car at night you might be surprised. Cheers like the videos.

I know people are going to hate me but 37K for this small car? I know it's not in the same class but you can get a Honda Accord with 60 HP more and more bells and whistles than this. The accord is a lot more spacious and easier to maintain. The only thing this has is AWD and it handles way better. But honestly unless you are going to track this car, this is over-priced. Don't get me wrong, if this was $30-34K out the door it would be a bargain of a car and I would consider it. For 3K more you can get a scat pack Dodge Charger with 400+ HP.
+Paulog1990 I see where you are coming from but you are viewing it subjectively. . I want an awd car I can play with in the snow in the winter. One that with snow tires will plow through 5 or 6 inches of snow with ease. I also want a turbo so that way I can tune and make easy power. An apr stage 1 tune brings the power to 360 hp. A fwd accord isn't even in the same league as this car. This car has even been said to feel like a mini porsche. I get that you might get more "bells and whistle" but this car is for people who want a high performance car. People who buy these don't buy fwd accords. The only bells and whistles I need are a turbo and awd. But whats so great about the r is unlike a subaru you get a mature looking car with an above average interior for its class in my opinion. Also I'll take a german car over japanese and especially an american car any day.

i think the appeal is it can do alot of things. it can be a daily driver and a weekend race car.
hp to hp doesnt really show everything. good tires, programers for dsg and haldex and engine and you can turn this car into an animal and then turn it back to a family car.
An Accord V6 has less HP and weighs more. This is a specialty vehicle for the Golf enthusiast. I just purchased one. The quality is top notch. It's actually assembled in Germany.

Might have been referring to the fact that if you get the "DCC & Nav" package, you get the same "Cadiz" style wheels but in 19" instead of the 18" version this car has.
It is way over priced! U can get a high end Bem for that much. The 4 wheel drive is nice tho.
no it is not. At a curb weight of under 3,000 pounds with the hp and torque it has this is on hell of a machine. Not to mention that it will also get you 30 mpg's. It is not only 4 wheel drive but 4 motion they are two different things. This is a highly sophisticated and quality built german car. They are also rare compared to gti's, golfs, jettas and so on. The dealership I work at only ever has one in stock and its almost always sold before it even hits the lot so of course vehicles of that nature are going to have a price tag that reflects that. I think if you drive one someday you will change your opinion very quickly.
Golf R, 2017 Sti Limited, Or Focus RS?
I went with a Golf R DCC w/Nav and drivers assistance package for MSRP vs a Focus RS most likely markup up or a Subaru WRX STi with an antiquated drivetrain and subpar tech.
Thanks VW!! You charge us $40K for a car and make us buy a spare tire for it. Why? It isn't a stripped out racecar so trying to understand why you made such a stupid decision when you should know just how bad fix a flat is for your wheels. Like it can literally consume your tires from the inside out and start to corrode the rims. Put a spare tire in it!!! We don't have soft roads in the USA; just drive in NJ or NYC and you will see how boneheaded of a decision that was
This is a fairly common thing now thanks to government regulations demanding manufacturers to produce cars with unrealistic fuel economy ratings. If the spare tire is optional then it will not be included in the MPG rating. Lower weight = better MPG.
Same thing with some vehicles having Electronic Stop/Start.
Those are 19 inch rims, you should learn the product your selling before you start talking about it
