Hello there, This is a cheap 3rd party tripod that I put on the kayak's floor and tie it down with some strings so that it doesn't move while I'm paddling. A video from Loch Ore would be the best test of this setup as I faced wind of 30kph with gusts going up to 50kph - the tripod "survived" the trip. 😅
Looks a nice seat that Tom but I do agree with about the height of the back rest. Do you mind me asking how much the seat is and your recommendation on the best supplier for it
Hi Dave, For anyone paddling an open kayak and using a high back PFD that seat will be a perfect choice. At the moment it is being introduced by Gumotex and as far as I can see it is priced at 137€ on their website but the product is so new that even a product page is not yet available, just a placeholder for now, at the time of my reply. I guess we would need to wait a bit for it to be broadly available. 😉
@LetsGoPaddling I'll keep my eye out for it then Tom, the extra things I like about the seat is its waterproof so wouldn't take as long to dry out when the bigger waves come over my Rush and I'd guess its lighter too so would help when I'm doing a train journey or portage
Obviously it's a much higher back but I'm curious if it fits your X500 well too, particularly how well it stays in position and whether the square blocks for the original seat would be likely to cause any issues.
These blocks would probably be in the way and you won't be able to strap this seat in - the buckles are for the footrest and are facing the opposite direction. But besides that, I currently don't have an x500 anymore. I have footage for more videos but all my x500 kayaks are gone now... 😟 Maybe I'll get another one but need to save a bit for now.
This seat can also be used with the new Gumotex Seashine. 😊
