i think the basement is less of a ff7 reference and more of a nod to old school isometric rpgs.
The sword doesnt actually increase in strength. Its always at 999 (lol) but you get more of the Weapon Story which is basically Kaines thoughts.

They added a YoRHa dlc for Replicant, you get 4 weapons, a 9S outfit for the child and adult protagonist and a 2B and A2 outfit for Kainé
