Devola and Popola Models are created to oversee and carry out Project Gestalt and when it failed and last Gestalt and Replicant dies making humanity extinct. Also other Devola and Popola models were killed by androids after the failure. Only after that it is when Aliens attacked and then androids form the resistance and stood up and fight.

He created the basis of the Project, but scrapped them, deciding the plan would never work. It was 9S's prototype model, No. 9, who after finding out the truth about their black boxes, killed Zinnia and wrote and completed the rest of the plan about Project YoRHa, including their disposal and reconstruction.
Powerfull escene... shows how in amids the lack of any real meaning 9s finds it self able to build one for him self.. truly 9s was the only character who made it to be human. But at the real cost.

I don't think the war was entirely set up by the machines. Androids themselves needed a purpose to live and fight, and saw the opportunity to perpetuate the lie that is YorHa when the aliens landed.

I haven't finished the game yet when I started reading the game's novelized version... and I was really really shocked about that unexpected plot twist...
This scene was really weird to me, because I remember I got this same document from a box on one of those places before reaching the tower, I remembered the document so well I thought I was confused myself, not being able to locate the "new" document the mastermind machine gave us... In the end the plot twist didn't have the impact it should have, is this confirmed as an old bug yet?

No, she's right, I found that same document in the Soul's Box. Like, it had nearly word-for-word the same information contained in the document from this video, but it also had the stuff about the black boxes being made from machine cores alongside it. When you finish reading it, 9S reacts to the machine core stuff, but not the revelation about the Yorha cycle. I was actually really confused like, "Uh, dude, is that really your only takeaway from the document? That you're made from machine cores?" Had to have been a mistake or a bug or something.
Someone that played this game in japanese needs to tell us what that document says in their version, because when I got to that part I basically made the assumption that the translation team copy and pasted half of the other info into this one.

Number 9 dubbed the plan Project YoRHa and set it in motion before he was executed by prototype Number 2. ...so yeah, the root 2B and Nines' suffering is actually previous models of themselves, and revenge isn't even an option because everyone involved is dead already. Which is an unfortunate truth you can say about a lot of other things in this story.

Considering 2B's existance and purpose, it's not that simple and disposal of the station is an unwanted scenario. Model 9 was responsible for the backdoor, so that future models could come closer and closer to reaching the tower, what 9S actually does in the end. And, if there's a sequel, I'm sure it'll be about reaching the moon, although I'm not sure if it'll be as much of a masterpiece as Automata.

actually the androids never had a chance of losing since the machines logic and programming meant that they always need an enemy to defeat. So they couldn't defeat the androids since then they would have no enemy to defeat after that point. So the machines set themselves into an infinite loop of nearing winning then almost losing which is how there are 14 machine wars. Everything to do with YorHa is actually all the android command had set up. Meaning everyone in YorHa died for no reason. Since they were never going to lose war because the machines won't let them lose.
