Yeah it sucks how they keep making LS lower risk. Ib ls had a good balance. imo if they had it to where you couldn't cancel spirit helmbreaker, spirit release slash made you lose a guage even if you miss, iai spirit slash made you lose a level if you miss (you can still let it gain a level if you hit), can't combo iss into special sheathe, and you can't roll out of special sheathe, it would probably and the perfect balance of risk v reward. even with how it is LS will probably still by far have the most amount of hunts for me lol. just hope they can have a better balance in the future
Love how Capcom continues to make LS broken.. it used to be high risk high rewards. They’ve significantly reduce the risks involved in using this weapon especially with the amount of hyper armour moves it now has.
I love how you showed the new moves, but you also brought homage to the old style in Mh3, you had an agnaktor longsword and i think the giginox armor or atleast some of it. I loved those monsters soooo much
moves are so fire, hit some insane LS tail cuts on monsters like radobaan, but man.. if only IG was this flashy. LS is great for "make the game easy" (i went from DB-LS-IG.. now i switch between all weapons)
The only thing i saw from LS in Wilds is a clip whete the player does a helmbreaker combo with finisher, NONE and i mean NONE of the attacks physically lanf on the chatacabra and the damage still lands... Guess LS is a ranged weapon now.
I do kinda wish that the Iai Spirit Counter still cost meter if you whiff. It just feels like if it's going to be a counter that completely negates all incoming damage *and* level up your gauge on a hit, that it should have some more noticable downside. To be fair they did make it so that you can't re-aim your Special Sheathe as much and we don't know if Quick Sheathe will be as effective as it was in Rise, so those changes could help make it at least harder to find an opening to get into the stance. At least they also made it so that you can't chain the counter into another Special Sheathe so you can't just spam it over and over again. So even if this is the final version at least it feels more fair than rise, but I still feel like it could use just a little more of a downside or something.
@@CALAMITY0FHYRULEye that was the first thing I noticed when I went to rise, I’m new to mh games so I started off in world, then rise, I have never touched another weapon besides longsword. I’m lucky that it’s so fun to the point where I wasn’t tempted to go to any other weapon
Most of the lvl 300 elder dragon attacks in rise can’t be blocked by special sheath because there are multiple damage from one attack, so I’m not sure which game you are playing
People constantly ask ''why you guys hate LS so much? '' I don't know about others, but hear me out if you want. Long Sword used to be an ''honest'' weapon: strong and versatile but Hi-Risk due to how vulnerable you are if you attack carelessly, by the 4th generation (MH 4 Ultimate) the basis of the Long Sword was perfected from the 2nd generation formula. The first massive gameplay change came with MH Generations Ultimate (MH XX) with Valor style, giving the long sword the ability of parry attacks better than a Lance, which struggles to even guard a strong attack, especially from the Deviants. The seed was planted here. Monster Hunter World (MH5) is basically the new monster hunter one, the new age of MH was settled here. The Long Sword was changed forever, the main playstyle of the LS was up graded as never before, by removing its main weakness: ''Defense''. making it now, perfect, and from here, it's never stopped. Ice borne gave it new tools, Rise and Rise Sunbreak gave it even more upgrades and now Wilds (MH6) has just broken the ceiling. And I know what you're thinking now: ''What's the problem with that? haven´t the other weapons changed for the better too? sounds a bit hypocritical'' and the answer is actually yes, all the 14 weapons have evolved and it's fantastic, but for every new update a weapon receives, LS is 3 steps ahead, which is what feels so unfair, some people haven´t forgotten the weapon trailer of the Lance next to the Long Sword in MH Rise Sunbreak. I use all 14 weapons, I've mastered and loved all 14 weapons and still do so, and Wilds will be no different. Bottom line, good for all the main LS that get hyped with every video, I'll make sure to have my gild card 14/100 +, as my tradition have always been.
As a Lance main, Sunbreak Lance was low-key one of the best counter weapons in Monster Hunter history. Insta-Block got a huge buff, because you could immediately flow into any one of Lance's other moves except for the basic pokes and the Power Guard. This also included Silkbind moves.
Bro. I enjoy longsword, but that's because of the risk vs reward factor. Now it's just reward. There's no risk factor if all the moves are super forgiving. Longsword has just become a hack n slash game.
7:50 lmao, no change for me 😂 Muscle memory kicked in when I started World and I kept the thrust on Circle (like it was on older games) all the way to Rise
I was also very confused, like what? Triangle, triangle, triangle? I didn’t use that much of LS in world and rise but like you said we always went with circle. I just realised after years of world and rise released lol
It would be nice (for us Lance mains) if there was a way to toggle off being able to be tripped up by other players. I get I can gem it in, but some builds just need every slot. LS was the weapon I used before MH Tri though. I still occasionally pick it up.
@@seegurke5333 Lance can use all the damage decorations it can fit into it's build, in world you have to use a triple slot gem just to avoid getting stunlocked by dual blades or longsword
@@Tsukimi39 I mean other than handicraft and earplugs which are the good 3 slot ones you're not going to be missing anything (I've played lance tho, very chill especially solo)
I don't like the ability to bail out one of the game's highest committal moves. It it turns it from a high risk high reward move into a no risk high reward move. Along with not losing gauge on whiff, this is turning LS into a zero consequence weapon.
I agree completely, now I wouldn't mind if you gained bar on successfully countering with iai spirit slash but I think as a risk you should lose bar if you whiff the timing. Helmbreaker is now way too piss easy and the skill expression aspect of landing it is just gone when you can just say nah if you're not 100% sure. Getting bar from wounds is cheap and makes this shit even dumber. The only saving grace is crimson slash moveset change being an incentive not to use helmbreaker immediately. Spirit Charge is fine.
I mean, does the bail out give you hyper armor and invincibility? All it seems to do is let you to preemptively sheath to keep your spirit gauge if the monster is doing something unpredictable. You still gotta hop up and seemingly roll forward. You probably can't do follow ups like foresight after it either
It blows my mind to finally see MH go from a niche gem of a series, to a true AAAA series that sets the standard for even AAA studios, With so many bad big-budget games, i'm happy this series gets to reach it's true potential.

My theory is that Foresight cancel into special sheath is still a thing (I don't know if that's still a thing in red gauge) That the time you can remain in special sheath is still 3.5/5 seconds Things that are confirmed are special sheath into iai Spirit Slash into special sheath (if iai hits) is confirmed, rolling out of special sheath is confirmed. And you will not be able to top of your red gauge by subsequent Roundhouse slashes. So depending on how good red gauge is, power prolonger might be coming along with focus and quick sheath to make the weapon more skill dependent to offset the huge buff's we got... Only time will tell

Otherwise happy hunting and see you in wilds, iai hunters.
Am i the only one worried??? Rise iss, cancellable helmbreaker, a guaranteed hit helmbreaker followup that does 2x damage than helmbreaker that if you somehow miss still doesnt punish you by depleting guage, a very easy to land move that levels up your guage by 2???? As a complete LS one trick did anyone ask to make LS more braindead to use, why are we removing the concept of high risk high reward and replacing it with just high reward when that isnt what mh is about, rise LS was a mistake and capcom should’ve seen that. I just hope it plays differently when i actually play it because what im seeing so far is that they’ve imported a portable weapon in their mainline game
So intstead of re-implementing "powerful, but punishes for bad execution" kind of design, it got even more ridiculous than it already was in Rise. That's not great. The rest of the weapons definitely need more love, and LS could do with a lot less. Its obscenely, stupidly overtuned in terms of usability and power.
Lmao Cry more you cringe loser you know better than the devs right smfh long sword was boring as hell all u did was the same combo to level your gage, then helm splitter and counter when u can (world long sword) long had the most repetitive moveset in the whole game this is a welcomed changed.
I like how the moves look, but it looks too strong to be fun. I started in world and my main was the longsword, it was already a very strong weapon back then, but still somewhat reasonable. But in rise, I kinda lost interest in the LS because it was so strong it devolved into spamming special attack after special attack. So I really worry with the direction the LS is taking with Wilds, to be honest it’s the only thing i haven’t been liking so far, everything else has been as close as a “perfect” monster hunter game as possible. I really think that leveling up your gauge to red should be a somewhat lengthy process, to give a certain rhythm to the hunt and so that when you reach red gauge and have access to the fast attacks or the possibility of doing a helmbreaker feels rewarding and earned, or the options given to you to reach red gauge faster should be risky, to reward players who have mastered the weapon. Otherwise it’s just not fun. Also, I don’t really like when a bunch of different moves all have the same purpose, and in the case of the Longsword, there are waaaay to many moves that level up your gauge. I’m probably gonna forget some, but off the top of my head there is : -regular spirit combo ending in the roundhouse spirit slash -foresight slash followed by roundhouse spirit slash -iai spirit slash -focus strike, possibly 1 level per wound destroyed?, and then followed by 3rd and 4th strikes of the spirit combo -spirit charge What’s the point of all of these moves if spamming one or two is already enough to upgrade you to maximum gauge? That’s why at least it’s good that a full helmbreaker + spirit release consumes 2 level of gauges, but I do think given how insanely high the damage is, while being relatively quick and mobile AND having a very forgiving hitbox AND the fact that you have 2 opportunities to cancel it (one before helmbreaker in the air and the second after helmbreaker but before spirit release), and how easy it is to level up gauge it could honestly cost 3 levels and it would still be strong. And the iai spirit slash should absolutely still cost a level if done incorrectly, with the number of option for levelling up gauge, it’s barely a setback, and it discourages spamming, which is a good thing.
Before this video i was 100% sure that im gonna pick ls, but now it's time to learn something new. Everything that you have said is true. It's just pure unfun, like turning on some cheese cheats. How the fuck should my brain endorse me with dopamine if there's absolutely not a single mechanic to worry about, what is my reward? Im mad
@@davletshine well all we’ve seen is the demo, once the game is out, it’s possible some of these things will have been addressed. I will probably try Longsword to see if it feels good to play, maybe it won’t be that bad, we can’t know for sure yet

I dont even play insect glaive but looking at longsword and looking at glaive is like watching the rich get tax breaks while the poor has to pay more taxes
I just started a new game only using IG and: Glaive is still really flashy, it felt amazing to fight Alatreon with it. It does so much damage too. If IG are the poor, SnS are the homeless.
@strateks9611 back in mh4u glaive was extremely op and the best weapon in the game by a wide margin so much so that they reworked mounting multiple times because of it. I can see capcom just being scared to buff the weapon but at the same time longsword was op in tri too and continues to get all the flashy new toys
Long sword was my main since psp...but i see too many ppl use it...i had to change to the switch axe .... might goes back to it.but switch axe fast just like it...just way stronger than the long sword .
it is both counter heavy and high skill ceiling. I have hundreds of hours with multiple weapons, and it is by no means the most skillful weapon, but it absolutely takes a high amount of skill to master. Every weapon in these games does, thats kind of the point.
@@Sharkamfss it is defo medium skill ceiling. you literally lose no reasources by commiting to what used to be resources based attacks, you can literally cancel missable moves. this is like if CB could cancle SAED or GL cancelling WF just because they were about to miss it.

Maybe it’s just a me thing but I feel like they really had something good with Valor LS in GU. But since World I’m just not digging how LS feels and I think it’s because it no longer feels like a parallel to Greatsword. It feels like LS has more in common with Dual Blades now where you’re zipping around vs Valor LS which felt more like standing your ground. I’m not knocking anyone that likes modern LS I’m just saying I wish I liked it too. There’s a chance I’ll come around. I have nothing but positive things to say about all of the other weapons in Wilds, even the perceived “nerfs” of CB and IG which are remixed to encourage more interesting playstyles.
I actually agree, I liked how it was this in-between weapon that was basic but could be mastered like how people fantasies about samurais. You hold your ground throwing out attacks and parrying to let out one big move towards the end after completing your combo a couple times. I feel like they are overcomplicating a basic weapon that had a high skill ceiling. now I'm just as confused as when I tried charge blade. I really liked how it was before Iceborne before iai slash and special sheathe were introduced.
3rd gen ls was my favorite weapon, when iceborne giving it more counter i fell of from it. now switch axe takes it place. you can as reckless or methodical as you want. reach and sweeps with axe mode, fast and precise in sword mode. it gives me that feel of older mh longsword
First of all your channel is stilll underrated. I also need you to know I brought out my sword and reenacted the spirit thrust with you. It was tooo clean not to join in haha.
That mount finisher + the Spirit Release Slash looks a lot, i mean, A LOT like Virgil's combos in DMC, we already had Dante"s swords and clothes on previous games, wonder if we will get a Yamato LS as a colab
Longsword is so free. Even missing doesn't have repercussions, if I miss a SAED can I keep my phials Capcom? If I miss a true charge can I just do it again at level 3 immediately? Hey I missed my wyvern fire can it not have a cool down. What if the cool down only happened if I land it? No? Just longsword. Got it
Ive played around with long sword and bow but always came back to charge blade. All the weapons look like they feel so nice now. I dont think ill be able to main change one or two weapons. The hunting horn and gun lance also look super awesome this time around.
I don't know why LS is always such an outlier They usually craft every weapon with alot of detail while thinking about the pros/cons, and the costs that should come with the reward But ever since Iceborne, it's just been "hehe op anime weapon"

The spirit release moves hitbox is normal but its delayed damage, Like a true "you're already dead" situation which is why the hitbox probably looks insane.
The way it forgot about this game is, when the spirit gauge level color must be existed 2 more levels, the purple one is for level 4, and the rainbow one is for level 5, that's quite overpowered for Long Sword hunters only.
The fact that y’all don’t lose the gauge when missing a special attack is ridiculous, it takes all the “high risk high reward” stuff and throw it out in the bin to meet Lunastra, that and the speed at which you guys can get your gauges back god damn it’s broken..
I know its like a month later but I agree, it needs a trade off or downside for missing
It's also quite a bit harder to land counter in world/wilds than rise
@@CALAMITY0FHYRULEye that was the first thing I noticed when I went to rise, I’m new to mh games so I started off in world, then rise, I have never touched another weapon besides longsword. I’m lucky that it’s so fun to the point where I wasn’t tempted to go to any other weapon

This also included Silkbind moves.
i'll give you that one for Rise/sunbreak, that was trash to what they did to Lance
So what are your thoughts on great sword and dual sword in sunbreak?
Longsword has turned into Sword Saint Isshin
Bro. I enjoy longsword, but that's because of the risk vs reward factor. Now it's just reward. There's no risk factor if all the moves are super forgiving. Longsword has just become a hack n slash game.
I'm surprised they didn't comment on this in the video. You can tell Darkside are definitely fans of the weapon above all other weapons now.

I don't agree , finally my blind Gramma with Parkinson can play the game with me !
I mean, does the bail out give you hyper armor and invincibility? All it seems to do is let you to preemptively sheath to keep your spirit gauge if the monster is doing something unpredictable. You still gotta hop up and seemingly roll forward. You probably can't do follow ups like foresight after it either

My theory is that Foresight cancel into special sheath is still a thing (I don't know if that's still a thing in red gauge)
That the time you can remain in special sheath is still 3.5/5 seconds
Things that are confirmed are special sheath into iai Spirit Slash into special sheath (if iai hits) is confirmed, rolling out of special sheath is confirmed. And you will not be able to top of your red gauge by subsequent Roundhouse slashes. So depending on how good red gauge is, power prolonger might be coming along with focus and quick sheath to make the weapon more skill dependent to offset the huge buff's we got... -World motion value, greatly inflict flinch if it touched a weak spot (it was decreased in Rise)
-I-frames like Rise on successful ISS, World do have it but only on startup and successful counter grant 2s of hyperarmor
-Multiple chains like Rise, helmbreaker was only the follow-up for ISS in World whereas Rise gave more options like Spirit blade III and another Special Sheath chain
-It's no longer possible to sheath back like in World, Rise gave the opportunity to sheath both on whiffed and successful ISS

You have covered my two main weapons and I have no doubt I will be using them as primary and secondary in wilds. Or maybe the hammer. Bonk

Oh man. When I get my 4070 super next week for my birthday, I'll be ready to take this game on. Longsword is my jam
I’m probably gonna forget some, but off the top of my head there is :
-regular spirit combo ending in the roundhouse spirit slash
-foresight slash followed by roundhouse spirit slash
-iai spirit slash
-focus strike, possibly 1 level per wound destroyed?, and then followed by 3rd and 4th strikes of the spirit combo
-spirit charge
What’s the point of all of these moves if spamming one or two is already enough to upgrade you to maximum gauge?
