I've got limited space for my sewing, and i really like the way you've created the table, it has inspired me to create the same. I've also gotten some of those pattern magazines that you were showing, but i've lost so many of them over the years due to moving from one place to the other, thanks for showing us your ideas.
Love your table layout. I actually prefer the smaller mat layout. I rotary cut everything and find areas get worn out, so with 4 smaller ones, you can rotate them and make them last much longer than a large one.
actually you said you make your own bedding. I would appreciate a video on that topic Thank you for all your sewing tips and instruction. you have a very nice sewing corner!
:-D Haha, yes! It's all part of being a sewist. I'm impressed by those who only buy fabrics for the current project, but I usually buy fabric first, and let it do the talking for a while before I settle on the right project!
Yes you are right, there are advantages with smaller mats too, easier to store and transport for instance. But I'm still jealous of those of you who have big mats :-)
Johanna, I have serious cutting table envy! I think your idea of placing the cutting mats on top is excellent! I think possibly better than the huge one as no metter which corner tour at youve got your information to hand. Your fabric stash is restrained compared to what I had imagined! I love your wallpaper, so gorgeous!! You've utilized tour space so well! I'm restricted to large boxes and my dining room table, but you've given me food for thought as I could use the corner I store my boxes and it would look so much better, although, like you I would need a cupboard, which of course holds so much as you've got the height! You are such a clever girl. I follow those hacks and now I can visualize it much better.....I'm sure there are lots in your old sewing magazines you could adjust for today as I love the jacket you showed....
+Janet Rodgers Yes the cupboard and the shelves/cutting board was a big gamechanger. Before, just like you, a lot of things including my fabrics were stored in boxes. This layout feels much less overwhelming than my previous set-up so I can definitely recommend considering something similar
Hello Joanna Absolutely love your cutting table and the fact that it is ON WHEELS!!.... I would just like to add something: On top of the wood slab (butcher's block' I would place a very thick lino for a cushiony effect for laying out pattern pieces and cutting the fabric ... when I want to cut with my rotary blade - as opposed to using scissors - I would place my cutting mat on top of this and take it off when I don't need it. What od you think? Is there something I haven't thought about that I should have ..?
I think the lino idea sounds great! The butcher's block that I used is too raw on the surface to work as a good fabric layout surface. I might totally nick your idea in the future :-)
I love that table and your boxes and shelves. Just tried to cut a halfsized table cloth straight before adding the borders, and cutting the batting and backside, and using a small mat on the floor is not optimal! But I am curious, the wheels, do you lock them or push it against the wall to make it stand still when you cut?
I found a company called cutting-mats.net. They make custom-sized cutting mats with the grids exactly like the ones you have on your ikea table. You just give them the length and width of your table and they tell which size mat you need to order and then they cut it to match the size of your table. It's one smooth cutting surface surface with no cracks in-between.
Have you thought about using fabric tape on the underneath of the mats to hold them together as one big mat? I know you said that it was sticky underneath to hold them in place but also that you mentioned you wish you had one big mat.
Last Stitch It's not always double sided. It's actually called carpet tape. Sorry for the confusion! Here is a link to what I mean (this one is single sided): www.walmart.com/ip/Duck-Brand-Indoor-Outdoor-Carpet-Tape-42/17510811?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222228015520088&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=40873364792&wl4=aud-310687322322:pla-78766150472&wl5=9011952&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=17510811&wl13=&veh=sem Though this may be overkill and duct tape could work just as well.
+Lindafayelewis I kinda made this pattern myself mixing several patterns and RTW t-shirts since I couldn't find one that was just right - fitted but not tight ☺
Hi The Last Stitch - Your Video My Ikea Hack Cutting Table And Sewing Storage Space, Here'S What I'Ve Looked For So Far, For My Client'S Home Design Ideas...
excellent efficient use of minimal space. everything looks very neat, organized and compacted.
+fd fd thank you! Its been a constant struggle finding the space for all my stuff but creating this space has made a huge difference ☺
Johanna I love all your videos. I am recovering from a hip replacement operation so I now have more time to enjoy them!😉

You bring up a great point! My oldest one are showing some wear and tear too, and I would only need to replace one at the time like this!
You can fix your mat I have seen tips to regenerate them if they are self seaming
actually you said you make your own bedding. I would appreciate a video on that topic Thank you for all your sewing tips and instruction. you have a very nice sewing corner!
you know what you are very clever...I have almost the same lay out in my sewing workshop..only difference my cutting table is 2 x 1.5 mt..
Lovely space!! 🥰🥰🥰
Hi just saw this today and noticed that you said that you sew your own linens. Would you please do a video on that subject?
Love that you are sharing your sewing room. I think you have an amazing stash of fabrics, as most of us do. No guilt, right? hahaha
:-D Haha, yes! It's all part of being a sewist. I'm impressed by those who only buy fabrics for the current project, but I usually buy fabric first, and let it do the talking for a while before I settle on the right project!
Mobile/wheeled is the way to go; I was going to fix my work area to the wall! What a fantastic idea! :D
Nice cutting table!!! I love that you made it yourself.
Thank you! Though I prefer sewing over woodworking any day :-)
I have a very long continuous cutting mat but I think I like your arrangement better. Much more manageable.
Yes you are right, there are advantages with smaller mats too, easier to store and transport for instance. But I'm still jealous of those of you who have big mats :-)
Love the cutting table, it's on my to-do list. I keep my cutting boards still with a very little piece of Blutack on each corner.
+Quiltygal Blutack is like the best thing ever ☺

Janet Rodgers i
love these videos! your fabric stash is quite manageable!
I feel so too about my stash currently. Though it did help to get bigger drawers ;-)
Awesome cutting table. Really worth all the time and effort!
+RubyLovesRocket Thank you! I did suffer a bit of a burn out during the built process but I'm so happy with the result ☺

The desk is heavy enough so that it stays still even on wheels
Find it a great idea, thank you. and may your inspiration and aspiration never end :)
Thank you :-)
Great table! What is the height, width and length of the finished table? :-)
Awesome table. Love it. Janice
Thank you!
What's the size of this table please...In details? Lovely job
Excellent use of your space, may need to borrow the concept!
+cow crush serls froissart You totally should. This space has made such a big difference and swallow so much stuff!
I'm looking for a new cutting table solution. This is very interesting!

Thanks for sharing!!!
Ooh, another wonderful creation from you! I'd also love to see how, and/or what you do with vintage bedding items, Johanna. 🤓
Here is a tutorial on how I do the duvet covers www.thelaststitch.com/2016/04/diy-duvet-covers-tutorial/
:-)
Wow! Your bed covers are gorgeous! Your creativity, and energy are very inspiring. Thank you for sharing your ideas. 🤓
What size are the cutting plates?
I am in love with that little tee shirt you were wearing in the video. Did you use a pattern for it, and if so if you don't mind which one?
+Lindafayelewis I kinda made this pattern myself mixing several patterns and RTW t-shirts since I couldn't find one that was just right - fitted but not tight ☺
Last Stitch thank you.
you are awesome!!!!!!!!!!
How did you compile your magazine cuttings into a file? I too have a collection but I don’t know how to put it together
I wonder what the measurements are of the table height and length and width
That is so Amazing thank you for sharing
Thank you!
What is the height of your table please?
Totally shocked to see that the Magazine was in German xD didn't expect that
Yup, in the 80's they didn't translate the magazines, so I picked up a few german sewing terms :-)
Thank you
