Hey, I've recently started reading Boundary Boss, and giiirl, thank you for writing it! I needed a reminder, a guide, a metaphorical hand hold.
I've had way too porous boundaries in my life. I see where it came from, acknowledge and forgive the BS hand me downs. My folks didnt have it easy.
I see how I've offered myself up for debate on my own volition as well.
Word to the wise, porous boundaries attract some shit people. They're even worse if you flip the script and start implementing boundaries.
I too shut my ringer off! I shouldn't find it so validating that you do, but I do lol.
After I requested set times around reading, sleeping, meditation had resulted in dbl the incoming calls, that's what I had to do. That's bonkers to me.
Recently, I've taken a rockstar hiatus from some, petty, vengeful, cruel, ppl. I need away from the chaos for a minute. Some ppl seem to keep you on your toes, so you can't dig your heels in.
My jump start was seeing how resentful I was becoming. I ran into Proverbs "above all else guard your heart. For everything you do flows from it". Ain't that the truth.
That was the kick I needed, your books is one of the tools to help make it happen.
So again, thank you. Much love.

I took this the other day with your interview with sweet Doctor C. I about fell on the floor when it came back BALANCED!! I was a pushover with no boundaries before I read your book two years ago- I thought it was virtuous not to have them. Anyway, thanks to help from you and your workshops (and Dr C and a few others) self-reflection and dedication to change, I’m balanced! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I realize it’s ongoing work but it’s so validating to my efforts!

Yes, I am very good at work and family but terrible with boundaries in romantic relationships. Actually I have very little, and I just tend to put up with being starved and deprived of what I need and it's feels normal due to how I grew up but I know I deserve SO much more ❤. Thank you for being here for us.

Thank you so much for what you do. I have been immersing myself into your😅 videos weekly. They are helping me considerably.
I also have purchased your Boundary Boss book and workbook. I am trying to make healthier boundaries with my parents. It has helped me see that I do not have to be at my mothers beck and call and that I can and now do say no. It has opened a feeling of less resentment and and feeling a heavy weight lifted.
You have also helped me see my narcissistic father in a different light and I do minimal contact. I'm working on how to end a conversation when he starts his I'm right and your wrong statements. It's a work in progress that I wish I had started years ago when I was younger. Keep up the good work! You ARE making a difference!

    Hello Terri
Many years ago I was kissing my son goodbye. He was probably five back then, he is thirty two now.
    I told him, "be good"
He gave me a look and replied, " I don't know what being good means"
He was implying, "What is being good? behaving according to your criteria?"
He taught me a lesson that I will never forget
    Best regards

From porous to balanced, thanks to you and your wonderful book (which I have read twice and refer to often), Terri! Setting limits and sticking to them without feeling guilty is an ongoing work in progress, a daily practice. Meditation and yoga have also helped me immensely... as well as building the self-esteem to even feel that I deserve boundaries. 💖🤩

Thank you Terri! My parents demand I have porous boundaries but I am looking to becoming more rigid especially with them. Trying not to be a parent pleaser anymore even though it’s hard in my current circumstances. I will watch that video with you and Dr. C, I am sure it is absolutely delightful.

Parents can be the hardest folks to set boundaries with because we've been doing the same dance with them for so, so long. Give yourself a lot of grace as you embark on that journey ❤️❤️

I am a YES person and a Reactive One as well. Thank you for the reminder that it can always be my choice and life can feel very differently because of stepping back and giving thought to whether YES is right for me in any given situation. I appreciate your hard work at keeping these videos going. I think it might be time also for me to re-read Boundary Boss and gain new insights to myself. It's alot to take in at one time. 🙂

What type of boundary style would be most helpful with narcissistic mothers ? And Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us 🤍

    • @terri_cole
      @terri_cole  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I think my answer would be healthy no matter what! Narcissists are what I call boundary destroyers. They bulldoze over boundaries because they only care about their own agenda. You have to protect yourself in those situations. I usually recommend the grey rock method - becoming as boring as possible - and lessening contact as much as you're able to. 💕
